Yes, donaire is on the brink of retirement but hanging out his gloves on a manner ends up on a win or a good looking one rather than on a loss.I could say that he has still something to prove out and thats what makes for Gaballo to be a tough challenge even on how hungry he is for some new record.
I think Donaire would retire after he loses in the hand of a real champion, probably not Gaballo because he is just a challenger, and with the kind of victory Donaire had in his last fight, I will never doubt that he could win this fight easily.

Let's not talk about retirement yet, respect the champion, he is not done yet, in fact, he has a big goal before he will officially retire.

Just one more thing to do for Nonito Donaire: Become undisputed champion

Quote
Four-division world champion Nonito Donaire has his eyes on one lofty goal before feeling satisfied with a boxing career that's practically bound for the Hall of Fame.

"I've done everything - win in multiple divisions, win multiple belts, knockout of the year, fighter of the year - except become an undisputed champion. That's my main motivation and inspiration right now," said Donaire (41-6, 27 KOs) on Power and Play hosted by former PBA commissioner Noli Eala on Saturday.

With his goal, he needs to win this fight, then beat the winner of the Casimero vs Inoue fight.

But up until now, still talks about this Donaire-Gaballo fight, no date yet.
Or the Dec 11 at Carson, California a confirmed date/venue?
Because at least with Casimero, he already got his date and venue.

I got the details here - https://www.premierboxingchampions.com/donaire-vs-gaballo

So don't know if this is valid or not.
Can the OP update his title thread with the date so we know at a glance when are we really going to see this fight? Thanks.

Looking at the tale of the tape, Gaballo's advantage is with age but with Donaire, it is his experience (no. of fights) and the rest are almost similar, the reach, stance.
I think I will bet on Donaire here because of his experience and based from his last fight, he still has the power inside the ring.

That was the date being announced on when they will fight, I think it's already confirmed, otherwise, we won't see that date. But although it's confirmed already, there's still a chance that it will be postponed or cancelled, so just be updated of this particular fight so we won't be surprise.

We could really tell the difference when it comes on how Donaire fights when he's still on his prime but now we are seeing that he do already lacks of stamina. He should really that mindful on prolonging his stamina until he could able to reach 12 rounds on least exhaustion and yes this wont be simple
as he's already getting older.I dont also see for him to retire if ever he would lost to this challenger and it would really be worth imho.

i believe donaire already knows his possible weaknesses inside the ring and one of that is the stamina to go the distance. so if he knows his weakness, he may have been addressing this already like the training duration, etc. with the upcoming fight, we will see how long he will last inside the ring and if he can still win over younger fighters.
with gaballo, it is a challenge to face a veteran boxer inside the ring. so he will also prove what he's got here.

He know he's out of his prime already so provably he is now working on he's possible flaws on his fight but we can still say that he's dangerous opponent knowing that he's still a good counter puncher. Maybe for now he's not getting younger anymore but I believe he can make this and give a good fight to his opponent.

And the pressure is on Gaballo side knowing that he will face a veteran fighter which have more experience than him.

^^ I think Donaire can still go out and fight a young fighter like Gaballo, maybe he is old but for me he still has it to stay on top of his game.

And in part of Gaballo, yeah there could be pressure on his side because he is fighting his idol and then this is a big stage for his young career. If he wins this then everything is open for him in this division, big names = big money fights.

Each boxer that do experience learnings whenever they do lost into a fight which is really normal and i agree that Donaire do knows on what  he lacks on that last fight with Inoue and for sure he had trying to compensate or trying to improve that flaw but due to age then i could say that it would be hard but at least he do tried. No matter what plans into their mind whether they do retire or tend to defend title or get to beat those top rank boxers then
no one really knows.

Maybe we can see his decision after this match finish since if he lost this fight then I think its good for him to retire while he's still on the top list and declared as one of the best boxer in history. But if he wins I think he need to take revenge on Inoue since its good to retire if you get the head of the current best fighter of this era or shall we say on their weight class.

For now maybe we cannot discuss the retirement yet since I think the focus of Donaire is to get this win and plan for his next move next year.

I'm not sure if Donaire will retire just because he will lost to Gaballo, he just recently sign a contract so maybe a minimum 3 fight deal for him, including this one.

And there are a lot of fighters still, like Inoue or Casimero that are willing to fight Donaire after this one. Or some other upcoming fighters, who thinks that it is goo to have Donaire's name in their resume.

As for a Gaballo win? of course, the flood gates will open for him, a lot of opportunities.

^^ But it probably will slow down Donaire, he is already 39 years old and I think for most boxers, they are already in their downside of their career. And I don't think that Donaire can sustain and fight at this age. So maybe if ever he lost, he might contemplate in retiring and probably take one hard fight and then call it quits. Let the young Gaballo take over for the Filipinos and hopefully he can live up to the hype.

It's finally over for Donaire if he gets beaten by Gaballo in this upcoming fight because no one will gonna risk their belt just to fight someone who does not currently have anything in his pocket anymore. Champions will only fight a proven boxer at this point or someone who is also a champion like him. If he can win this fight somehow, then it would be good for him if they give him another chance to fight Inoue or someone at his level in their current weight division.

Well, that is if Gaballo could really take down Donaire in this upcoming match, even though Donaire is already 39yrs old, it's not a disadvantage to him because he's still capable to give such big blows if Gaballo isn't careful enough and pushing some luck against Donaire is not a smart move either.
But I know they're both training hard for this match to show their true strength, and yes MAYBE Donaire will eventually retire if he's gonna lose in this match and Gaballo will be a champion.

I think it is like s Manny Pacman situation. He's been a target of strong boxers because he was one of the most admired athlete out in the field. He aged and but needs to defend a title. But until the end of his journey as a boxer, he did gave his best.
I have seen Donaire's fights before and some when he was still starting his career. I think he could still go on strong but definitely will have younger and difficult opponents.

Practically wise if ever Donaire loses this fight, he can call for a rematch just for taking money,
He already in his retiring age but still capable of making one more fight, either a rematch or one money making fight
before quitting.

We don't know how this fight will end. Both fighters are good and they are capable of KO their opponents, either for legacy
Or for a new beginning. Still a pride of the country whoever wins this fight!

Better to follow what Manny did after losing his last fight to Ugas.

Even inside their mind, they think they can still fight and win, but the body was aging and most of those movements are no longer the same.

Best to enjoy life after retiring. He doesn't need to prove anything if ever he loses the fight. Fans will always remember him as one of the best fighter

on his generation.

The only way for him to retire fighting a champion after losing to Gaballo is if he is a big enough star to still bring a lot of audience to his fights even after a loss, can he do that? I do not know but I suppose it is going to get harder to do that when it is obvious he is near retirement and he is just looking for that last fight to say goodbye to boxing, now if Donaire wins then it would make more sense that other champions will be interested in fighting him and I think his chances of pulling the win are decent as even if he is older he is still a very dangerous opponent.

He's still dangerous and capable and its true on what you had said that if ever he won this fight then he wouldn't really make out some retirement because it

would really be a good thing for him to seek or fight another as long he could still win and he only knows on whats happening into his body.
Boxers would tend to retire if they do understand that they couldn't fight that well or does have their own personal reasons.
So we cant really tell.
