What is religion? What do you consider as religion? Is it the belief that one god exists? Or multiple gods? Just simply something that is a higher power that exists? If that is what you understand from religion then it is obvious that money is not a religion at all, because in finance there is no gods.

However, if it is waking up early in the morning for it (morning prayer in some major religions and some minor) or taking a break to do something specifically for it? Or starving for a while to gain more later on (fasting now, going heaving later?) or just celebrate it? If you just look at the actions people do when they are religious then you may find similarities in the wealth world as well. Very rich people do stuff similar in logic for getting more money that religious people do as well. Which is why I believe that we may find some resemblances in both of them.

What is money exactly? It is the intermediate between goods and services and just means that "I have this much" and nothing more. We do not even use paper banknotes that much, it is mostly cards that we deal with and the money moves around digitally everywhere.

Only among the most barbaric people physical strength would value more than money, probably because they didn't know how to use money at their favour as they were uncivilezed and mistreat people from another tribes and kingdoms, but as soon as they learned trading skills, money became the main tool in order to achieve power.

Therefore, no, the pursuit of wealth is not like a "religion."

Money and religion really have little in common. Money is needed for our existence in the material world, and religion belongs to the spiritual world, where money has practically no value. Sooner or later we will all die and we will no longer need the money we have accumulated. At the same time, we are all interested in how we appeared on this planet, was it an evolutionary process or someone created us, if yes, then why and for what purpose, what is our purpose in this life, because everything in the material and spiritual world is arranged very rational and these worlds are much more interconnected than many people think.
We shouldn't pay so much attention to money. We need them more for a sense of freedom and independence from the factors of the external material world, but the world of spirituality should be in priority over the material world.
