And just to note, I keep only a small portion of my balance in my Android wallet. This is to ensure the security of my funds because my mobile device is my daily communication tool.

So you are using a hot wallet with BlueWallet. You can also use it as a watch only wallet and monitor an xpub that derives from your hardware wallet.

Basically BW is good because it allows multiple wallets. It has coin control and multiple other features.

What I don't like however is that it is very unstable when connecting to my own node.

Have you reported it to their support or asked on their thread? As long as the connection between your device and your node is okay, there should be no problem. What kind of instability are you facing? It would be weird if a connection to other nodes is better compared to your node unless it is hosted on the cloud (VPS, etc) and not on the same network. In order to get it to work, I need to mandatorily use Orbot. Otherwise it won't connect at all. Now, if I use Orbot, it is ultra slow and it doesn't show the proper balance. I keep refreshing but it doesn't change.

To be honest I haven't reported because I don't use it anymore. For mobile, I use Sentinel (and sometimes Samourai) connected to my own Dojo server. This setup runs flawlessly.

BlueWallet is a very good and recommended BTC wallet and i can say you are using your wallet in the right way, because anything online is surely vulnerable to attack and so our online wallets should only hold a small amount of our funds. The larger portion of your funds should either be in a hardware wallet or in an airgapped wallet for better security.

I was using Coinomi for more than a decade, however, recently it started to have loading problems even on 5G network so had to make switch. Was looking at moon wallet but it didn't allow restore with seed phrase so installed blue wallet instead.

BlueWallet is a good upgrade to Coinomi which is a closed source wallet with little to no activity from their developers. A little question though, since you have switched from Coinomi to BlueWallet, which is a BTC-only wallet, i am curious why you have been using a wallet like Coinomi to store your BTC's. I can understand if you use it for shitcoins that are worth little, but surely not BTC when there are far too many better alternatives out there. I would recommend that you move your funds to a fresh wallet created in BlueWallet, instead of restoring your wallet in BlueWallet with your Coinomi seed phrase.

I used coinomi as hot wallet, but yea probabaly better idea to start a fresh using Blue.

I have been using Electrum for a while to store my Bitcoin, and I was planning to switch to another open-source wallet app. I have installed Blue Wallet, too. But I am also using my Electrum wallet on my Android device. Usually, I do not store alts. But sometimes, I had to get some TRX and USDT, too. I am currently using Centralized exchanges to receive and change them later. Mostly, I do not hold alts. But I want to know what other wallet you guys suggest to store alts? I used Trust Wallet before. But I came to see that they are closed-source apps. Other than this, it's been a good wallet. Is there a better alternative to Trust Wallet?

You are right that Trust wallet is closed source, so Unstoppable wallet is a good alternative to Trust wallet if you are looking for an open source multi-coin wallet. Though unstoppable wallet is a recommended wallet to store your altcoins, they do not support as many coins as Trust wallet does, but you can take a look at the coins they support to see if it is okay for you. Unstoppable wallet also supports extending your seed phrase with a passphrase, which is an extra layer of security, and this is something you cannot do with trust wallet.

Thanks for the suggestion, mate. I have heard about the Unstoppable wallet before, but I have never tried it, and I guess I haven't seen many discussions about it. Open-source wallets should be promoted more rather than closed-source apps. Still, if you ask someone what a good wallet app to store multiple altcoins along with Bitcoin is, Most people suggest Trust Wallet because they don't know the better alternative, and some don't even know if it's an open-source or a closed-source app. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. I will install it and try it myself. If I face any issues, can I DM you?

Must have accidentally missed the discussion about Unstoppable wallet {User experiences}.

Open-source wallets should be promoted more rather than closed-source apps.

You are right that one should find out the function of open source and closed source wallets so as to differentiate between the two.
In this context, one must also be careful about open source recognition from the wallet so that the wallet has unknowingly turned into a closed source or open source wallet recognition is only an appearance to carry out actions that can harm wallet users.

Still, if you ask someone what a good wallet app to store multiple altcoins along with Bitcoin is, Most people suggest Trust Wallet because they don't know the better alternative, and some don't even know if it's an open-source or a closed-source app.

Most of those who asked questions and those who answered did not have time to read and discuss better wallet alternatives from TrustWallet.
For those who want to get answers about a good wallet after receiving answers to the questions asked, they should study or explore in more detail regarding the level of good wallets recommended.

---

I was here to tell you that unstoppable wallet does not meet my needs, but then I clicked on the link you provided. I checked the video the OP provided, and it seems unstoppable wallet already supports many chains and coins. I have to enable the coins to see them in my GUI. I didn't understand it at first, and I was kind of disappointed to see only a couple of choices of alts there.

I was about to choose Guarda or Safepal, but I guess I won't have to. I heard safepal become open source but I cannot trust coin telegraph. Also, Guarda claims they are partially open source. Thanks for providing the link.

I would recommend that you move your funds to a fresh wallet created in BlueWallet, instead of restoring your wallet in BlueWallet with your Coinomi seed phrase.

That should not be a recommendation but a MUST DO thing when you are changing your wallet due to any reason/issue in the previous wallet. If you simply import the Coinomi seed phrase to the blue wallet, your seed phrases will remain with the Coinomi (as being a closed source you never know how they are handling the seed phrases).

I think Electrum is the best bitcoin wallet around, and you can use its android version. And works fast too

Electrum may be the best bitcoin wallet for desktop but its Android version has very limited functionality. Although it will serve the purpose, but why not use the blue wallet on the Android phone instead?

You can probably check their GitHub to see the code. As far as I know, they don't fully share their code. Firmware etc is yet open, although IIRC the news said that it is ongoing and should happen in the fourth quarter. Heck, even their X1 still has nothing on the repository albeit being called the culmination of their open-source motivation. I guess what they refer to open-source is entirely limited to their wallet suite, whatever that is.

Yep. As far as I heard, their latest hardware wallet is open-source, but I couldn't find any detailed information about it. If they build an open-source hardware wallet, is there any possibility they can publish the software/app codes, too? I guess we don't know this yet. But for now, I found Unstoppable very much fine for me. At least it meets my needs for now.

I was trying to get a hardware wallet, but transacting crypto here is not legal. So, importing hardware wallets or any crypto-related gadgets is not allowed either.

That sucks. Is it illegal as in owning anything will get you in jail, or using it for payment is not allowed but you can still own it? In my country, it is the latter and we can buy and sell any crypto gadgets just fine. If you want to set up a cold wallet you probably can do it with Electrum and a live OS, or an air-gapped device like a disconnected PC/laptop. There are tutorials on this forum if you want to read it further. It should be safer compared to using an open-source wallet on an Android phone if cold storage is what you need. CMIIW.

Since crypto is illegal here, owning anything related to crypto means you are a crypto user and are likely to get arrested for further investigation. No shops in Bangladesh sell any crypto-related gadgets. Computer users could buy GPUs to mine ETH (back then) because they were parts for computers, which is not exclusive to crypto.

But if you talk about ASIC miners or hardware wallets exclusively for crypto, you will likely get arrested if they notice. But I believe almost 40% of the young people in Bangladesh use crypto secretly.

It is quite troublesome if your country does not provide any support for crypto,
even to the point of saying that the use of crypto in your country will be considered a crime.

There is no freedom, or better regulation on the use of crypto.
I am still lucky to be in Indonesia that makes Bitcoin a commodity asset and is not banned completely.

And regarding the purchase of GPUs for mining, it will be an instrument as a support for mining crypto.
But whether your government will examine that much detail, certainly not.

ASICs may already be too common an item for crypto mining, especially if you buy them from abroad,
this will certainly be held back, and you will be in trouble.

But if you talk about ASIC miners or hardware wallets exclusively for crypto, you will likely get arrested if they notice. But I believe almost 40% of the young people in Bangladesh use crypto secretly.
40% of young Bangladeshis are aware that they need to be more advanced and cannot be restricted due to legal issues with crypto use.

As I said, it's banned. Even the government arrested crypto entrepreneurs who were doing exchange business in Bangladesh. The government accuses them of money laundering. Even average crypto users are not safe here. You should forget about any kind of support from the government when it comes to cryptocurrency. I believe many people from the government also use Bitcoin. But they do not say anything about it.

Yes. I consider you lucky, too. Some countries ban bizarre things. I hope this won't soon become Korea. Bangladesh banned cryptocurrency. Freedom of speech is getting tightened every day. You cannot post anything on social media. They monitor our social media, too.

One thing I have noticed is that, it's usually developing nations who are keen on banning/thwarting crypto, while developed nations are busy creating/improving regulations.

If developing countries wanna get better, at least follow footsteps of developed nations. A mere fair tax laws with freedom for crypto to flourish will give government tax revenue and happy citizens.

Lack of understanding likely contributes to such decisions.
