My favorites are Benzema and Mohamed Salah.Karim Benzema is a great player with great contribution for Real Madrid(even though I don't like Real Madrid).

If we are to say that the Ballon d'or is not a popularity contest and truly it is given to most deserving in terms of titles and cups won, IMHO Benzema should be top runner to win this Ballon d'Or having a world cup medal and Nations League medal to his name. Benzema is on a fantastic form and has performed and scored against big teams, he deserves to be recognised.

I agree with you I think Karim Benzema would be a good choice and a quite small surprise (like would be Kylian Mbappe too) but you are wrong Karim Benzema has not a world cup medal as you said because he was not selected in the french team during the last world cup in 2018.

What about Chelsea players? Is there no one worthy of this trophy? from what I know at least the chosen player must contribute to one title

I’m a Manchester United fan but I’ll be happy if it goes Salah, because he deserves this award for all the hard work he’s been doing on the pitch. Also Benzema has single handedly been keeping Real Madrid alive, so yes he too is a worthy contender for this award.

Why is Robert Lewandowski side lined he has done so much this season to deserve nomination even though he doesn't earn the title. Haaland or Karim Benzema should be another key focus. But for me the most deserving of this year's  Balloon d'or should be the Bundlesliga legend and no other

As much as I love Messi and I do think he is the best player of all times, it would not really feel right if he gets the ballon d'or for the past season. Players like Haaland or Lewandwoski were really fun to watch, really exciting performances. That also counts for a number of other players, but not so much for Ronaldo and Messi the past year.

However, there was a meme going around, it was like: Messi chose Paris as his next club because that is where the Ballon d'or will be handed out, so he can save money on the flights.

their era isn't over yet but for the ballon d'or it seems not. they are both great players and everyone knows that and there is no denying their greatness.
ronaldo with his hard training and he is like a robot and messi who is blessed by his natural talent have all been great and graced the awards for a few seasons but now there has to be a regeneration and they deserve more.
compared to jorginho, i think lewie is better in his performance even though jorginho has references, namely the UCL and Euro trophies.

Those guys have won so many awards, individual and with their teams, that unless they are at the very top of their games I would not give the award to them, and since this is not the case right now, at least in my mind they should not get the Ballon d'or, but unfortunately things are never that simple, we know there are a lot of influences trying to move the results to one side or the other and it seems Messi could get the award even if there are many other players which deserve it more.

Donnarumma has been one of the best keepers in Europe for about 2 seasons now but I don't think that makes him the only suitable candidate for this year's Ballond'or. I mean, there have been other players that have had top notch performance too. But at this point, I feel like it doesn't really matter much since they'd just give the trophy to Ronaldo or Messi as usual.

Only Lev Yashin has ever won a Ballon d'Or for the goalkeeper position, so it's improbable for another GK to win this award, except he is an IMBA goalkeeper. Yes, Donnarumma is the best player for EURO 21, but his club record is not that impressive.

Also Messi and Ronaldo era is over (apart from not so impressive achievement this year), so I think they will give it to another player. Probably Lewandowski

Definitely not this year anyway. or the half of last year. Even counting playing time Messi and Ronaldo have not clocked up as much as they used to simply because of sitting on the bench and because of injuries,,, so it would be highly unfair for people to give their votes to these two when others deserve it more.

Benzema may not win it in the end because of his personality and of his involvement in the sextape scandal though,,, that makes a lot of other footballers mad I believe.

There is definitely some truth to what you are saying! Certainly, Messi and Ronaldo often deserved the trophies simply because they were the best on the planet, period. But at times there are political and fame elements involved, which is really not great, but not surprising either right? That is how the world works. I am totally convinced that Messi is the all-time best, yet he must deserve the trophy yearly by achievement, not by reputation based on the past. Of course, even in a bad season he is the best striker in La Liga.

It's arose a lot of controversies lately, the Ballon D'or since Covid-19 where a lot of persons expected it to be the turn of Robert Lewandowski following his contributions with both Bayern Munich and his Poland but then, it had to come down to what it was. This time, I see a lot of competition for this as, its no longer the Messi Cum Ronaldo as it used to be. Both of the stars haven't been so awesome if you would ask me but, they've still made a worth while contribution.

Mean while, I think the top 10 list is literally it as, a lot of other names that made it to the top 30 seems like a mare decoration and probably, an appreciation of performance on the individual players. Nice one for every noted player to have made the list.

The ballon d'or is between Chelsea players and Robert lewandowski. Any one  among the Chelsea players do deserve it especially Jorginho. Lewandowski was robbed of it last year as the pandemic cause the event not to hold. If he get it this year ahead of Jorginho it is fine because Lewandowski deserve to be named among the best for his contributions to football over the years.

Reading about goalkeeper winning the award, why is Mendy (Chelsea goal keeper) not listed among the shortlist. Could it be because there was so many players from Chelsea already on the list. Mendy was phenomenal last season, keep clean sheets game after game and conceding just 4 goals in the whole champion league season. With such achievement, he deserves to be on the list. OH wait he is black, an African and also a goal keeper nevermind.

Yes I think if Lewandowski receives it is still fair not only because he was robbed of it during the pandemic, but also because he currently excellently confirms that he is worth that trophy. He still scores like a machine in all competitions, is at an outstanding fitness level and still the brilliant team player he used to be during the last season as well. He is a real team player, similar to Haaland. It has been discussed before, but I would honestly be a little bit shocked if Messi or Ronaldo took it home even though Messi won the Copa, but he has to accept that his achievements get measured by the standards he set in the past.

Lionel Messi might get this years Ballon d for his Copa America performance as he won the trophy with the national team and he won the golden boot and his performance for Barcelona was not bad either. CR7 scored a lot of goals this season and was the golden boot winner during the recent Euro cup and the only issue is he did not won any major tournament. So to write these legends off is just silly  .

I wonder, has the voting already taken place or is that still running? I know usually the Ballon d'or is referring to the past season, but isn't the voting still running and current performances will also have an influence?

If that is the case, i can very well imagine that Mo Salah might also have a chance given his current performance in the PL, especially today.
