How many years will it takes graphics cards to be 100% done with mining ? In 2016 many are still using gtx660ti for crypto mining but later they are done for, the oldest among the cards that still lives today is rx580, how safe is this GPU for future mining? Cos rx580 is using old architecture still

It is mostly depends of the usage, maintenance and exterior conditions of the ring place. As you know you should use this ring in a best stable climate and humidity levels. It will give you the long time use opportunity.
Also you should know that new GPUs will mine better than your cards but you should look at first the ROI when you make an invest to GPUs.

When it costs more to mine with them than you earn, and that depends on your electricity cost.

Rx580 is also useful for some other coins not just Ethereum mining alone so no matter what I believe that this GPU will last longer for mining, very good for ravencoin, conflux, ergo and others, it's usefulness is going to last a long time

They will always have a use as long as there is someone who can use them and they will produce more revenue than they cost in electricity. When that is no longer possible there will still be a secondary market for them depending on how old they are and the condition. Especially gamers or video editors looking for a starting build or something for their kids.

Are you referring to a GPU that dies from mining, or become obsolete?

If it's the latter, the demand will still go on as long as there are PoW coins that don't require as much RAM/ hash than the mains like ETH.

If there is enough memory, then any GPU should be able to mine any coin as long as there is some software developer to make the algo work. One reason why many miner developers don't make their miners work with old GPUs is because they don't see it as being worth the effort. If less than 1% would use their software , it might not be worth spending hundreds of hours perfecting the algo to make that GPU efficient.

Newer GPUs are a different story. Miner developers know that current GPUs and they will do what they can to make them efficient and fast because they know people will use their software. However as the GPU gets older and older and uses too much power, less and less people use it and eventually the miners just sell them to some gamers or youtube rendering people.

Every new PoW algorithm starts with low memory like 1GB until time pass by and they grow over 4GB just like how ETH DAG grows over 4GB today so every GPUs will always have a chance to mine new coins until DAG file grows over the GPU max memory

GPUs don't go out of mining business until after many years to come and so far only ETH have made it pass 4GB GPU Memory, it's also wiser to buy GPUs with 8GB memory as minimum for long term purpose, RX580 8GB will still be supported for many years

Every new PoW algorithm starts with low memory? Dude learn more about mining, algorithm and so on. This is complete wrong.

If taken good care RX 580 4 GB can still mine Ethereum Classic until April 2023 approximately and the RX 580 8 GB can mine for some more years to come if they are taken good care of,they have adequate cooling as the main important factor to prolong their life.I have a few RX 570 4 GB still running since 2017 and their temperature is 65 degree Celsius at most in a very hot environment. So the bottom line is this card can mine for years to come, the 8 GB version.

It depends. I have GPUs mining fine from 2017 when I bought them new (RX 570/580). I also have even older GPUs like R9 290 and HD7950 that I bought second hand and they mines well too.

The conclusion is that they can mine until they arn't profitable anymore. If your question is when they arn't profitable anymore, that's a harder question to answer. As I said above I still mine with HD7950s that are made in 2013, and they are still profitable, but it's crazy times right now. In 2019 GPUs bought in 2017 wasn't profitable Smiley

Every crypto miners must be ready to upgrade their GPU mining farms few years later because newer architecture will be out as time goes by and these new GPUs with newer architecture will work better with crypto mining, as mining difficulty also increases the old GPUs becomes less profitable

As crazy as this may sounds it's true, I still play PC games using gtx660ti from 2012 and till date some games still runs very well on this old Nvidia graphics card, even some new less demanding games still runs on medium settings using gtx660ti including GTA 5 so old GPUs are still useful no matter how you view them, the 2GB memory is why they aren't worth mining with anymore

Yes they are still very good for many different algorithms as well. I have a bunch of them and they are very easy to use! Best GPUs I have in the long run, hassle free.

I have Nvidia 1000/2000/3000 series cards. AMD Vega 56, RX 5700 XT and 6600 XT cards. But Polaris is the most easy to use, that's my thought.

Only DAG based algorithms do that. Posting in bold type doesn't make a false statement true.

No. Not every POW algo is memory intensive.

The original Bitcoin algo Sha256D is not memory intensive at all hence why it’s easy to code on FGPA and make ASICS for it.

Remember dual mining? How do you think it was possible? It was possible because ETH algo spent most of its time searching its memory while the compute part was sitting idle most of the time. So the way dual mining was possible was if it was combined with another algo like sha256 which is nothing but computations with no memory work pretty much.

I'm guessing this person is trying to say that every new coins are easier to mine when they are still new if the algorithm supports GPU, every thing gets harder once the difficulty starts increasing

You are the only one who don't understand what I meant, I don't have to go too deep in details but since you got me wrong I will say more about it, what I really meant was a brand new coin will be more easier to mine with even small graphic cards that has 1GB or 2GB memory on them, for example Ethereum Classic can be mined with a 3GB GPU as we speak
