For the last few days, I am receiving mail with some downloadable files. Surprisingly although that kind of mail should consider as spam, the mail entering in my inbox. I know this is a hacking attempt from the leaked database.  But receiving regularly is quite annoying. I have reported it as spam so hope I will not receive it in my inbox anymore from the same address.

Here is the example:

The filename will always be like " Elon Giveaway, Free Bitcoin". So guys just be careful downloading such files from the mail. Don't be greedy and give your device control to the hackers.

Are you receiving such as mail?

I got tons of random email containing this kind of file on the inside. I always report the email as a phising whenever i accept it.
But i always keep receiving it because they send it with different email each time, this kind of scam is really frustating eventough i never clicked any of them. Hope gmail has prevention security to block these all of emails in the future.

You should not open any of it if you not expecting any airdrop from anyone. When there is a bullrun and adoption of BTC is very mainstream already even the very novice phisher or hacker using a .exe file for a worm will be motivated to look for a newbie to victimize.

This has been a common way of attacking cryptocurrency users for a long time, this became more used ever since 2017 that a large number of crypto users were fooled by the "airdrops" and "bounties" and signed up for their so called "free money" with their personal information smallest of which were email addresses. The database ICOs created back in 2017 and have been building ever since (under different names like DeFi) have been sold lots of time for an extra income by the token scammers.

Yep, I keep getting the similar stuff ever since that Ledger database leak happened. Even though I don't get too many of those (like maybe one or two every few weeks) it is annoying af. It is quite obvious that is malicious file, I can imagine decent among of people falling for this trick as all you need is a few seconds of not paying attention and you get screwed.

Are you receiving such as mail?
You have us here a very good information, it could be as a result of coinmarketcap people's email leak that result to this, it can also be from any other sites that people are given out their information to, the best is to just ignore the email. If it is disturbing, I think the unsubscribe icon can be helpful to unsubscribe too, maybe risky but I do not think so. What I will do is to just ignore such email but I have never received phishing email before maybe because I am careful and avoid giving out my personal details unnecessarily to sites requesting for it.

the mail keeps dropping in my emails and I have been deleting and blocking. you might wonder where they got the email address. simple. from bounty campaigns. scammers here parading as bounty managers will create a useless bounty to collect people emails. after which they sell off to hackers. it is not new. i hope newbies don't fail for this trap.

I have received a few emails few days back with some Russian text and a file included. I know it's for malicious purpose and I didn’t bother to click. People should be more aware now since coinmarketcap has been hacked yesterday and all the registered people are in risk of receiving such phishing/malicious email very soon.

This kind of scam is very popular even not a newbie can receive this kind of the same message this is the reason why we need immediately report this kind of scam to prevent others from getting baited to those links. Newbie to the world of crypto must be curious on it and one just single click it might get hack the information we have. Just wondering how they got our emails and send this kind of spam, as for now i didn't receive any message like this.

From the looks of it it seems like that the sender sent out the same e-mail to multiple e-mails and it seems you can check who are the other users that got the same e-mail (looking at your screenshot). Last time I received such an e-mail I made sure I did two things:

  • Reported it as a phishing attempt[1]. I know that this may be a "lost battle" but at least I know that I did something to alert Google that someone is using their services in a shady way. If they get more reports from the other users, perhaps they'll lock their account (even though they'll create others, at least this one is dead).
  • Sent, from an anonymous e-mail, a message to all the other persons that received the e-mail alerting them that the e-mail that they've received from person A is an attempt to infect their computers (and most likely drain them of any crypto they have). I usually tell them to check haveibeenpwned[2] so that they can see for themselves if their e-mail was leaked and take some action.

I don't always do the 2nd action on my list (only rarely is that I receive such e-mails) but I also never get an answer back so I don't know if I helped anyone, but at least I tried to help someone. It is indeed an uneven fight, but at least we try to fight back right?

So guys just be careful downloading such files from the mail. Don't be greedy and give your device control to the hackers.
Are you receiving such as mail?

In my case, 90% of such e-mails mostly end up in a spam folder that I sometimes just peek into to see if something that shouldn't have ended up there. Unfortunately, some people are still too curious and unaware of the dangers lurking from such e-mails, but such things are not specific to e-mail, but to all social networks, especially Telegram, which has become the main weapon of scammers.

The thing is simple, you just need to follow a few simple instructions :

- one e-mail for all activities is a very bad option, make one for family and friends, one for work, and one for things like registration and verification.

- don't believe anything that seems too good to be true, especially not if the sender is unknown to you - and even if someone is known, their e-mail account can be hacked and used for malicious purposes.

- use an e-mail that has good spam filters, so most such messages will end up in a spam folder - and don't be lazy to report every such e-mail as spam, because that will help other people not to see such content in their inbox at all.

Are you receiving such as mail?
No i haven't been recieving mails like that but thanks for the useful information. I'll keep it in mind to be careful in downloading files because it might be a spam or scam.

Some scam mails don't have anything to do with crypto but just normal useful things like tools or other, it is way safer not to click on any links that you aren't expecting, remember scammers are getting smarter every day, why click on links you know nothing about? Once you use your email for presales or airdrops and so on be expecting scam mails so just ignore them
You're absolutely right. We should not click or download any links when we ourselves know
nothing about it. It is much more safer than cluelessly clicking any links being sent to you. We should always be aware because like you said scammers are getting smarter everyday and there a lot of them roaming around everywhere trying to bait people into getting scammed. Reporting a spam will help too so that you'll stop recieving such annoying emails.

Be Wise. Do not let greediness takes control over you.

Generally, I don't click on my email (inbox) if
  • It is from a stranger.
  • If it is from person I know but the link is strange
  • If it is offer is about money (whatever it is: airdrop, giveaway, bonus) and is from a strange website.
  • Nowadays, who do really give away Bitcoin?

I've also received this kind of email I just marked it spam even simple greetings from a stranger I never entertain, a year ago I respond to one email with the Hello heading and they started sending me a lot of threats if I did not send them funds, after that, I unsubscribe to websites that I think I'm not reading or using anymore and stop participating in airdrops using my main email.

If you are involved in Cryptocurrency or any kind of investing be sure to make your email confidential and use other emails when participating in airdrops or giveaways.

This particular scam is new to me. I have never received such an email.
I have been getting some spam informing me that crypto transactions have been made in my name and that I need to confirm my identity and send personal documents to gain access to the money. Not to mention that plenty of local girls want to have sex with me at least twice a week. I guess word gets around quickly.

A wise man says "don't ever click an incoming email recklessly" lol it's me. I mean, we should always be guarded in the crypto world seriously. I always ignore whatever is related to crypto that comes to my mail. Whenever I want to open something that actually I subscribed to, I have to do cross-checking over and over again. I'm too afraid to open something there cause it's like I will be in pain even when I just touch them. We have to be super cautious to survive in the crypto world.

I’m usually allergic to open those kinds of emails regarding free Bitcoin offer, giveaway, etc. I always double check the recipient of the email before believing that they are doing this for real. I’m also receiving some similar stuff regarding about that, and mostly on the Spam folder, so I usually ignore them and delete permanently.

If you haven't, please report this in the scams and accusations subforum, that would help a lot of new people. I would like to think that most internet literate people know these types of giveaways or promotions are in fact a scam or just malware ready to be instaled on your computer. It's hard to imagine that even people who are new to the internet, being young or old, are not aware that this was a big thing at one point in internet history. But I could be wrong.
