I still recall the fight between GGG vs Canelo where both showed their respective prowess and skill in boxing. Watching three (3) games unveiled was definitely a privilege on my part as I was also able to dissect their individual strengths and weaknesses.

While Ryota Murata is an accurate puncher, I do think that GGG has this on the bag. Like what was previously stated, 18 matches of the latter against 43 matches of the former is too overwhelming. The gap between their experience may seem to be the crucial factor regarding the matchup between them. Though I do commend Japan for producing an elite middleweight boxer, which is slightly rare to witness in our current day and age.

Murata is also a pressure fighter which both of them are.  He isn't really a big contender here, I could say Golovkin isn't cherry-picking after all he is 39 and then matched to a boxer that could be considered inexperienced base on the number of fights.

Golovkin also gives a favorable venue for Murata since this is going to be held in Japan. If GG couldn't make a big difference such as knocking Murata down, he'll not get the win. If the fight will be too close, it's Murata still. No draw here.

GGG is more experienced in this field so he will surely have a big advantage in this match. Ryota still has a lot to prove so he better take this chance and opportunity to create a bigger name by beating GGG. It will surely be a challenging fight for him but I believe that this match will be favorable to GGG.

GGG will win this fight no matter what, if there will be a rematch then I will vote Murata. Murata is hungry boxer and has strong chin, he wouldn't got knock  out from GGG. Based on Murata's record, if he lose he will comeback and prove to people he can beat them (e.g. Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam, Rob Brant).

Still waiting the odds on some bookies, if the odds is too low for GGG then I wouldn't bet.

Murata is also a pressure fighter which both of them are.  He isn't really a big contender here, I could say Golovkin isn't cherry-picking after all he is 39 and then matched to a boxer that could be considered inexperienced base on the number of fights.

There's no time for Golovkin to cherry pick his opponent, now he is facing a champion as well in the MW division although others say Murata lacks experience, I doubt that is the case. He also fought a lot of good MW.

Golovkin also gives a favorable venue for Murata since this is going to be held in Japan. If GG couldn't make a big difference such as knocking Murata down, he'll not get the win. If the fight will be too close, it's Murata still. No draw here.

I will go with Golovkin here, I think he is the heavier puncher between the two. Murata is good no doubt and has a good chin, but Gennady still possesses that knock out power even body punch.

Surprised to see GGG fighting this year at his age.

And even though he lost to Canelo, (controversial and then no rematch), I still consider him the greatest MW of our era. This will be his second reign and I agree that GGG has so much experienced that we will favor him against the Japanese fighter in Murata. But Murata is also a champion and we all know that Japanese boxer is also durable, so this is going to be a good fight.
As long as he is still able to box at a high level then his age should not matter, however while I also think the victory Canelo got over him on the second fight was suspect as I personally saw GGG winning that fight I think it would be difficult for GGG to beat Canelo at his current level.

If this is the case then it is possible we could see the third match in the trilogy as I am sure Canelo is aware of those rumors and he will probably like to clear them before GGG retires.

I think majority of us here would agree that the first fight, it's all GGG and then in the second fight, it can go either way. But the current version of Canelo right now is really hard to beat, he is a complete fighter.

But as far as GGG vs Murata, every Middleweight not name Canelo (although he already move to 168 lbs already) can be beaten by GGG in my opinion. Maybe one of the Charlo brothers could be a good match for GGG at 160 but not sure if that fight will happen in the future.

I have this feeling that the poll will end with Murata getting a zero vote Golovkin is still good and he still has that killer instinct and even if he has not fought for quite some time, a fighter is as good as his last fight the long layoff will not be an indication that he losses his power and quickness, I have not seen any boxer that can keep up with him except of course Canelo, this fight is a good build-up if promoters and the boxing community still wants to see the third match against Canelo and Golovkin.

Murata would surely got zero on this poll because numbers or stats are obviously showing on who does have the edge and i dont know on why people been thinking that after a long time of a boxer havent able to have some fight would degrade themselves without even realizing or considering that they've been still continuing their training despite of such pause and still maintaining their body so that it would be ready whenever there would be some potential upcoming fight that might be arranged on.Canelo
vs Golovkin is all we do need but well there are fights that need to be settled on or in line.

I'm not surprised that no one voted for Murata in the poll.
I don't want to underestimate GGG's opponent but I think this is a big mismatch, looks like an exhibition fight for me and I already know the winner.

I did some research about Murata and an article says that he is a superstar in Japan, even bigger than Inoue.

So GGG is back this time he will travel to Japan to face a local champion and hero Ryota Murata.

He will bring his middleweight crown in the line, IBF and IBO and then Murata's WBA.

We've seen Canelo already so it's time for GGG to show us if he still what it takes to have a rematch with Canelo maybe a catch weight? GGG is nearing 40 years old though, so I don't know if there is enough time in the table to set up that trilogy with Canelo.

Anyhow, he has a big task on hand in Murata, the Japanese is also a very tough fighter. So hopefully we can watch and enjoy this fight.

But I'm still picking GGG to win maybe by decision or knock out if he can still pull the trigger.

https://www.boxingscene.com/golovkin-vs-murata-official-saitama-december-29-on-dazn--161939

These two boxers have nice track records which just implies that this match is something worth watching for. Both boxers have good winrate which are also nice matches if you'll look back. The recent matches were KO's which exhibits strong fighting style of both boxers. Golovkin and Murata have both been inactive for some time but certainly they will provide us a good game that would be entertaining and thrilling to watch.

Although I must admit that in this upcoming fight, I think GGG would be in advantage side because he is more experienced compared to Murata which is yet an uprising boxer in the industry. GGG has more fight and wins over Murata but that doesn't also discredit the skills and talent the latter has in boxing.

I'm very much looking forward to see their match. This would be a nice year ender fight for 2021.

If we translate that 30 million views to dollars in his upcoming fight, then that would mean big money is waiting for this fight.

I thought it's not a popular fight, but it seems like the promoter knows how to find a good match of GGG, and though Murata is an Olympic gold medalist, I still think he is nowhere near to Golovkin's skills in boxing, but let's see this one.

^^ I agree this is a huge fight, I mean boxing is big in Japan and if I'm not mistaken Murata is only few Japanese who has a belt, the other famous Japanese boxer is Naoya Inoue.

And having this fight in Japan and in New Year, it will really translate into big money.

Remember Floyd having an exhibition years ago that started this whole cross over and exhibition fights? He was offered $9 million for 3 rounds. So there's a lot of money in Japanese market whether boxing or MMA.

actually in terms of quality and in terms of statistics Murata has lost in every way and it will be very difficult for him to get out of there.
on the other hand, GGG is still quite strong now even though it is about to turn 40 and I think this will be an absolute victory in saitama later.
On the other hand, Canelo may indeed be a worthy opponent because he is also currently something that is difficult to reach, especially Canelo's punch is quite strong and no one has been able to bring down Mayweather.

Inoue has its name and getting known in boxing because of such explosive and surprising winning fights against known opponents as well but Murata is not familiar to many boxing fans that is why nobody had voted his name based on the poll. Of course, we know the story and winning streaks that GGG had until he got failed to protect his undefeated records against Canelo. That could be his biggest fight and a strong opponent, not Murata. I believe that he goona win this fight as he still has the power despite his age.

^^ I agree this is a huge fight, I mean boxing is big in Japan and if I'm not mistaken Murata is only few Japanese who has a belt, the other famous Japanese boxer is Naoya Inoue.

One thing that goes positive with Inoue is that he is promoted by one of the best managers/promotional company, Top Rank. That's why he was able to break in the US soil for the last 3 years and made his name already.

As compare to Murata, less fights in the US, although he is the champion, he doesn't have the same exposure as Inoue. But as @mirakal have said, Murata is bigger in Japan, and it's good that the fight are going there so the burden will be on GGG here to win.

Quote
How big is this fight in Japan?
Mike Coppinger, boxing insider: Massive; arguably the biggest fight in the country’s history. Murata is an Olympic gold medalist, an absolute rock star in Japan, even bigger than Naoya Inoue. He routinely pulls more than 30 million views for his bouts.

Have not voted in the poll yet as I'm still researching on GGG's opponent but with the article that you shared, I'm leaning towards the Japanese to win this fight via decision. To be held in New Year, this must be a very big event in Japan and this is not a regular boxing fight as this is a unification fight for the middleweight division.

At 35 years old, Murata still has it to defeat the old Golovkin. We  GGG has been inconsistent in his performance lately, this may be due to his age.

I don't know much about Murata's boxing skills and who he fought but if he is that good that this is a gauge that will measure if Golovkin still has what it takes to challenge Canelo Alvarez, Golovkin's last fight is against a low-level fighter in Szeremeta, that fight is not good for Golovkin it's a cherry-picked fight if he still looking forward to fighting big fights like a Canelo fight he should fight top-level fighters, I still pick Golovkin to win this bout.

Well the only one that I can recognized on his resume is Hassan N'Dam wherein he won the vacant WBA Middle weight title. And it seems after that all his fights are made in Japan.

I guess him and GGG are in the collision course as GGG might want to unify the Middleweight belt in his comeback reign after that defeat from Alvarez. So it doesn't look like a cherry picked by GGG but another big but dangerous fight.

GGG win's over Murata might trigger the bell for the possible trilogy fight with Canelo.

Canelo is right, no need for a trilogy since he already beat GGG but if the latter will show some explosiveness over Murata, Canelo's camp might be pressured to accept the trilogy fight with GGG.

But before we go to that topic, GGG should do his best to beat Murata. 5 years age gap should not be a big difference.

Anyhow, he has a big task on hand in Murata, the Japanese is also a very tough fighter. So hopefully we can watch and enjoy this fight.

But I'm still picking GGG to win maybe by decision or knock out if he can still pull the trigger.
This will be a close match, GGG is a veteran fighter who's still in his prime while the Japanese pride Murata is also an average fighter who defeats opponent with better experience and skills. Looks like we're gonna enjoy this fight, and this time GGG is in the reach disavantage agains the Japanese boxer.
I'm not gonna pick which I'd bet for now, this Japanese fighter named Murata is new to my ears and I'd research his history for now. And as of GGG, I have no doubts for him but we'll see.
