I would like to express my gratitude to the organizers from Japan for their hard work and full support of the upcoming unification fight, Ryota Murata is an outstanding champion. There's finally a date for the middleweight title unification between Golovkin and Murata.

They'll meet April 9 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, sources told ESPN on Tuesday. GGG-Murata will take place on Saturday evening in Japan, which means an early Saturday morning DAZN stream in the U.S., perhaps around 7 a.m. ET, sources said.
Source

We can remember that this fight has been originally scheduled on December 29 last year but due to the omnicron, Japan was forced to close its borders because these new variant are said that it's going to be more infectious and could spread faster than the previous variants.
And finally, a much awaited unification fight of GGG vs Murata is now set and and now they released a date. April 9 is the day!

Finally, there's a rescheduled date now erasing some speculations that GGG might face another boxer.

Japan's restriction is now slowly easing and sports events are now being rescheduled. Barely just a month to go, we will now see GGG back in action.

Murata was sure glad too as his dream of facing the likes of GGG will now finally take place. I don't see any problems now that can make the fight delayed or suspended again for the 2nd time.

Yes, it's been a long overdue because of Omicron, but since the date was posted, the next thing now is the bookies to add this fight and let the fans and bettors to pick their choose as early as now, not sure since Spence and Ugas already have available odd and this upcoming fight will be earlier.

Looking to see GGG fighting inside the ring again, let see if he can attract more fans and viewers to call on with another chance
against Alvarez. Roll Eyes Cool

Yes mate, we have waited for more than 2 months from its original schedule. Thankfully omnicron wasn't that strong and Japan have been successful to eliminate the danger after they close its borders for 2 months. I'm also waiting for the bookies to update this fight.
There is no doubt that GGG can still attract people and his fans all over the world, it is one of the most waited fight after this.

This is good news for GGG, at last they have released a date for this fight. One month from now so GGG must be intensify his training so he could catch up.

He must have feel the pressure to win now knowing that Canelo is waiting in the wings and a possible huge retirement paycheck is waiting should he demolished Murata next month but knowing how tough this Japanese boxer, this could be a one hell of a fight for the aging GGG.

I have that feeling that there is a new schedule about this fight right after GGG posted on his social media accounts that he is resuming his training at his camp to prepare for this upcoming fight against Murata. I guess I got it right! Cool

Good, thanks for the update mate, looking forward for this date, and now that we have a date, they are back in training mode again. And add the extra motivation for GGG to win so that he can set up the trilogy that he wanted against Canelo. And then Murata also motivated to be the one to derail this fight. So as we have been speculating since the start, this will be very interesting fight, GGG fighting at Murata's home soil.

Same here I'm also looking forward about the trilogy, and at last the long wait is over, we can now watch this fight soon as the new schedule is already posted. GGG is really motivated now because Canelo and his camp have changed their mind and offer GGG a deal to fight Canelo again. Win or lose, I just want them to see dancing again in the ring.

For Murata, he is already honored to have the chance of fighting GGG at his own backyard. Even though he himself know that he's not in the same league against GGG but he's also motivated to atleast give an entertaining fight and of course Japanese people are rooting for him.

Though GGG still haven't signed the deal but we already know that this fight will happen as GGG is the one who want it in the first place. But before that, we should also focus about this first. GGG is still the heavy favorites against Murata.

The chance of GGG vs Canelo III is very slim, if both parties are willing to fight each other again, then the fight could have happened a long time ago. I understand that we want to see that great fight again as the last 2 fights were all controversial, at least for the fans of GGG who think he could have won at least one of the two fights.

I'm just trying to be realistic here but of course, I'd love to see that happen again.
I know that people want to watch a third edition between GGG and Canelo but it is not going to happen, GGG fights in the middleweight division which goes from 154 to 160 lbs however Canelo is moving to the cruiserweight division which goes from 175 to 200 lbs.

So as you can see the weight differential is simply too big, so either GGG moves to super middleweight or even light cruiserweight or Canelo will have to change his plans and instead of going to a heavier division move to a lighter one, something that is rare because as boxers mature they tend to move to the divisions above their weight and not to one or two divisons below their current weight.

The possibility is still there about this trilogy with Canelo. The last statement from this article (https://www.boxingscene.com/golovkin-on-fights-with-canelo-people-who-thought-i-lost-comfortable-being-delusional--164305) says that Canelo is "nearing a two-fight deal with DAZN, the second of which would potentially involve Golovkin", so yes, there's possibility of this GGG-Canelo III. But both camps should talk about in what weight division they will be fighting. I guess, this will be retirement match for GGG in case it will push thru. He's not happy with the results of those first 2, but don't know if he has that power to overcome Canelo.
I had not read that article and it seems the possibility of a third fight between GGG and Canelo is higher than ever, lets see if they can make it happen, after all as you state the results of the two fights did not leave GGG happy and many fans shared that opinion as I think that GGG at least won one of those fights.

However now it would be more difficult to overcome Canelo as he is now stronger and smarter than what he was back then, so without a doubt it would not be an easy fight for GGG if the fight comes to happen.

This rivalry would certainly close totally on this trilogy if it would happen on this year but there are really indeed rumors that it could happen once they would settle out their own respective upcoming fights.
If this one would show soo much interest and demand then organizers  would definitely be considering for this fight to happen but we shouldnt really anticipate or hope that much
because everything is still on rumor but it would be good if they would make it happen.

Golovkin 1.13, Murata 5.20

GGG is still the favorite in the bookies but if i were to put the odds i would give 2.5 for Murata because he is a very live underdog and we all know that GGG is not getting any younger anymore and that may reflect on his performance against this tough Japanese boxer.

IMO, that trilogy with Canelo would not be an exciting one if you are really following boxing. They should have stage that months after the rematch because we all knew that GGG is aging while Canelo is peaking so critics might tagged this a cherry picky fight once again.

Well I guess this time it is more closer from reality that a fight between GGG and Canelo will happen this year if only both camps will agree to the terms/deal that have been made and of course after they defeat their each present opponent which is Ryota Murata and Dmitry Bivol, respectively. Somehow, that is also true that GGG wasn't happy about their last meeting but it is also GGG who is vocab and wanting a trilogy.

Either way, at least GGG has been granted the fight that he wanted and I really do think that GGG is the one who can keep up with Canelo.

True, but it was Canelo who said no to the trilogy, and then he went further south to LHW and go for Kovalev's belt and we all know that he clean up the super middleweight division next.

So there's no more challenge for him except to close the book with a fight with GGG. But there could be arguments that GGG is already old and this could be an excuse and could be used as an argument against Canelo.

I sense the same there are a lot of controversies about the fight - many people think that this fight is not going to happen. And fans will be disappointed - there is so much behind the screen fan don't know. I wish the fans get to see what they are waiting for. Also the current situation of the world leads us to uncertainty- anything is possible any time. But above all - we just want this fight to happen. Fingers crossed - looking forward to it!

Yes, ain't that much exciting anymore because the probability of the fight now is much different than before but their upcoming fight is still an interesting one for me and for other boxing fans as well, but only for the reason that these two big names of the industry will face each other again for a trilogy. I just wanted to see how would GGG perform against Canelo for the 3rd time. If only they have staged this fight several months or in the same year after the rematch then GGG has more chances than he is now, I mean he's still capable but the fact that he's much older now while Canelo is still on his prime really makes a difference.
I'm with you on that, Canelo will be labeled cherry picking again, but yeah we can't deny that Canelo is indeed smart because he really knew that fighting GGG is so risky as he might lose once again.

NEW UPDATE REGARDING THIS FIGHT:

Quote
"I am glad that the date has finally been set. I would like to express my gratitude to the organizers from Japan for their hard work and full support of the upcoming unification fight, Ryota Murata is an outstanding champion. I believe that boxing fans from this beautiful country and around the world will see an exciting event. I look forward to getting back in the ring and bringing the Big Drama Show to Japan." said Golovkin.

Cool

You have a point! Yes the fans are sure disappointed because like us, they also waited for more than 2 months before the new schedule was released and we can't definitely blame them because their reaction is somehow normal as they don't know the very roots why did the fight have been postponed and why did it took so long before it was given a new date. Anyways, you're right about that and let's just hope that this fight will pursue.

A good news indeed, two of the most awaited fight will going to happen this year including the trilogy between GGG and Canelo that was expected to happen in September. Though GGG still haven't signed the deal but we already know that this fight will happen as GGG is the one who want it in the first place. But before that, we should also focus about this first. GGG is still the heavy favorites against Murata.

Yes, he is indeed a live dog and we really don't know how GGG is, I mean he is out for a long time as well so both of them have ring rust, and then we have the age factor for GGG. But I read that the trainer of GGG wanted him to go back to his old self, like really being aggressive in the beginning of the rounds. So I'm expecting him to head hunt and go to the body early and really test himself if he still has it or not.

I'm pretty sure the fans and the bookmakers already know that, and still they made him a heavy favorite on this fight. Personally, I don't think that ring rust is really a problem of GGG, if he continues to take care of himself, do the right training and the diet, for sure he would still be the same GGG that we saw in the past.

That is just the way the boxing world works, why Mayweather fought against Canelo so early on his career? So he could beat him and he will have the opportunity to say that he did, do you think Floyd will have any chance against Canelo right now? Of course not, but Floyd is smart and he will never get in the ring to fight professionally against Canelo again.

So it makes sense the managers of Canelo saw GGG as a threat after those two fights and decided to let time take its course and only allow a third fight once GGG had lost some of his faculties as a boxer.

Age would really take a toll even if we do say that he do make out some casual or normal training routine because age is something that could be stop on and we know that
human body does deteriorates no matter how you do maintain it out and seeing into the odds then i dont see that people would really be betting on 1.1x odds
and its true that Murata 5x isnt a bad choice though if you could put up some risk.

You are right, however, Canelo is going to fight against Bivol, and GGG, despite being older than Canelo, has a good chance of winning, the truth is that sometimes you can count on experience, so much so that many of the Fans already find the fight boring, I really believe that boxing is taking many turns, things are changing, the mere fact of rescheduling is already something that bores, and they are leaving the best match as the last option because what is happening in Right now, the boxing industry is looking for a lot of business models where they make a lot of money.

Precisely! they are more on the business side and not with the entertainment. When the timing is there and money is talking, they will bring something out. I guess it's nature now with promoters and handlers not to let their money makers to fight with an equal chances type of fighters. They will be more on the advantages and the money that will flow before they will let things to happen.

For this upcoming fight, more eyes for GGG odd might not be attracting for small time bettors. Maybe other alternative if there's something that bookies will offer will be the one that bettors will take.

Both need to win their respective fight though to have more hype in they are going at it this September. But the chances are very high so most likely we will see them fighting for the trilogy.

Only thing that will go against GGG is age, but we will see. Perhaps GGG can still box and could be very hungry to avenge his lost to Canelo which for him is the blemish in his long and storied career. And there are also boxing fans who think that he really won the series against Canelo and he is the only one that gives Canelo a hard time.
