FWIW, I never bid on #1, but at one point it was going for 0.1 BTC.

Maybe some of the responses got edited ... just want to make sure nobody gets robbed! Smiley

That's absolutely correct.
Commited3d, when you scratched your #2 bid, did you change your #1 bid from 0.10 to 0.08?

BTW, in thinking further about this action, EDIT: it is a MAJOR scratch and further puts into question the integrity of this auction and devalues the pieces that were bid on. For anyone paying attention in the heat of the moment and seeing 0.10 as a bid, and then shifting their focus to another item number or upping their bid because they knew a competitive bidder was willing to pay 1500 or more USD than the next highest final bids is a huge flaw. I understand that this may not have been a gaming tactic and perhaps even due to bidding inexperience, but edits in the moment are evidently not flagged to the top of anyone’s feed when we’re in the frenzy of bidding, so nobody even caught this until the auction was over. Bottom line is that anyone that is, should rightfully be bummed.

EDIT: I also realize that Commited scratched their bid because they upped their own high bid from .08 to .10, another miss in the moment, but going forward, if someone is revising or editing a bid further down in a thread with a shit ton of action and commentary, it’s probably doing the right thing to announce that. Also, it’s really a pain to have bidders calling out wins, that should be left to the seller and if seller goes silent for whatever reason, it’s probably better to let it play out and sort it afterward instead of add to the confusion. I learned more from this auction than any other I’ve participated in. Question sellers early in the auction if something in the rules is unclear or needs looked at. Collectibles members are the coolest on the forum  and want to help and keep the vibe. There’s a lot of history here from OG’s that are more than willing to dive in to help. Ask questions and you’ll see how willing this community is to dive in and answer from experience! My two sats Smiley

Seller determined that the entire auction should be extended by 5 minutes irrelevant of which number was last bid on. As there were bids that came in for other items besides #6 in those last 5 minutes, it automatically extended the auction on all items. That’s my understanding

I just cannot imagine that anyone who has ever participated in an auction would think that a bid on one item would extend the time for bidding on other items. Never seen that in my life.

Of course the bidding on one item should only pertain to that item. I don't know the seller/creator, but from an outsider looking in, this just looks like a greedy dishonest move.

This is correct. Again, sorry I chose this format.

I did not expect this kind of attention or bidding. I truly did not.
Knew the end result of eighteen months hard work is pretty awesome. But this...
I was adamant as doing as much of the entire process myself, this is a lesson.

Am currently working, so sorry if this is somewhat short response now.
Obviously, I cannot change how things went or the sour feeling some of you have.
I will think about this and see how I can do a bit about the sour feeling in the future.

Hi,

After some thoughts, I can propose the following to try to take away the disappointment created with the bidding format.

I cannot give away Mood Masks, those are not mine to give away.
I can, however, offer up my own AP.

I have to think this through and appreciate feedback from each bidder / winner on how to approach this:

- Would it ease the disappointment if I were to ask someone else to hold a raffle for this AP?  (OG forum member)
- Everyone who made a bid (also winners), gets a raffle ticket (just one ticket, no cost).
- Price of 0.01 BTC for the winner, proceedings go to a yet to be determined charity. (or no charity and no cost?)
- Shipping is on me, as is the cost for arranging the raffle.
- I won't make another silver AP, but will make an extra special (alloy) for myself.

Edit: The AP is unfunded

I hope this is a good gesture, it's the least I can do, can arrange and feel comfortable with.
Again, feedback or suggestions to this solution would be appreciated.

This has happened on at least one other recent auction I've taken part of - it adds chaos for bidders and has been an obvious headache for sellers. EDIT: Especially if there are more than a few items.

Of course the bidding on one item should only pertain to that item. I don't know the seller/creator, but from an outsider looking in, this just looks like a greedy dishonest move.

This was not my take, rather felt like it wasn't clearly thought through.

Hi community, bidders and watchers. I was bidding at the auction, although i already have a Mood mask.

It's a lovely piece of art to say this at first. The auction has be a bit confusing, cause of the many comments of bidders. The rules were stated pretty clearly. Every bid extends the complete auction for 5 minutes. Surely, there are better formats to auction this (especially with 5 items) but i don't think Clay Cast is greedy here...

Simply take a look to auctions in the past. I simply think he really didn't expect that much interest.

By the way as a hobby handcrafter. These pieces take 100s of hours of work and love to do. Keep this in mind. Gratulations to the winners... All the best and stay healthy

First time checking the thread after yesterdays chaos.
...I would still love to get my hands on one of these pieces.
I wanted to put this comment here to show my interest in a Mood Mask to anybody who reads this.
Looking forward to seeing how the rest of this transpires.

My apologies for the chaos.

I'll honor my word and will try to get someone else to host a raffle for AP #2
Feedback on my suggestion(s) / approach are welcome.

All Mood Mask from the auction seem to have found their new owners, due to the time difference with some of the winners, will have it sorted (and hopefully shipped) tomorrow.

I don't have the time to make a list of all people who made a bid, but can do so this weekend and will reach out to a trustworthy host for the auction.
If you made a bid, please keep posted.

Hope this helps (and works for the people who feel bummed),

Everyone runs their auction in different ways and mostly in all my auctions, the time gets extended for all items even if one of them gets the bids..

From someone who has been following this piece of art from its initial concept, progress as it was worked on & the final creation. I must say that this piece will go down in history, especially after this auction.

The project did take much longer than expected… the subsequent  Btc price increase chased away some people who initially reserved one leaving these ones up for auction…and we all know how that turned out.

Claycast is a true crasftman and his work is stellar on this piece.
Nice to see fine/scarce collectibles admired and coveted by collectors. It’s a good sign of things to come.

Congrats to the auction winners and an even bigger congrats to those who reserved their pieces and paid.

I wish I was able to have been bidding here. After reading through the thread it's easy to see where things went awry. Having multiple lots in a single auction adds a little complexity to the description needed. People run their auctions differently, but logically it would makes sense that all lots would extend after any additional bid to any lot, otherwise there could potentially be a large disparity among the winning bids, robbing the artist of funds and robbing opportunity from other potential bidders. Ultimately unfair on all fronts unless all lots are extended.

My two sats also come from a mistake making the assumption that each lot was exclusive... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5332708.msg56891483#msg56891483

If multiple lots are in one auction it should be assumed they are all extended unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Congrats to ClayCast and auction winners!

I'll honor my word and will try to get someone else to host a raffle for AP #2

It is a very nice gesture, but IMHO not necessary ... I agree with the other commenters that the structure of this auction was fairly standard.

The biggest pain was simply the bulletin-board format of BitcoinTalk, combined with the posting limits imposed on newbies (I had to create 2 separate accounts to keep up with the bids).

Although it might not be necessary, this also seems a bit of a tradition, if I think about my previous auctions.
So, would like to do this raffle of AP2 as a thank you & gesture to all 21 people who made a bid.
