But it can also be an advantage if you always visit the same site and want to be the same (pretending to be someone) person every time.
If you log in somewhere, you want to always come from approximately the same location/IP/provider

Or did I overlook something here?
So, you mean that it's an advantage to have the same IP when you want to appear as the same person every time? This can be beneficial when you visit casinos and exchanges and there is a solution for that. You don't need an IP that has been used by multiple users before, this can flag you on some services. In this case, it's best to buy a dedicated IP from a VPN provider that offers this service but the disadvantage of this is that your anonymity isn't high and the IP is associated with you (but it's still through VPN and your ISP doesn't see it).

I talked before about new mesh Nostr VPN created by bitcoin developer Martti Malmi, but that was more for sharing between your devices.
Now people created marketplace for this VPN with different independent operators you can pick.
After payment you can use standard WireGuard or OpenVPN and use EuropaVPN:
https://europa.westernbtc.com/

This is still early stage, but interesting development.
Currently available operators:

Why pay 1000 sat/day when you can get Mullvad for 247 sat/day at current Bitcoin price? I don't think enough people know you can pay them any amount you want.

Don't tell me you didn't see the first offer with 100 sats/day  Cool
This is marketplace and early days so people can set any prices they want.
Mullvad can be shut down and seized, not that easy with decentralized VPN.

NostrVPN isn't a completely new idea. But this VPN approach still hasn't convinced me.

While the market is small, things might even be interesting, but as it grows, so do the dangers.

By using a VPN like that, you run the risk of other people using your internet to access any and all types of websites. This means your internet connection may be being used to access illegal hardcore content, which could attract the attention of the authorities.

Therefore, assuming the use with unknown users can be a risky option.

Mullvad released new blog post on https://mullvad.net/en/blog/age-verification-for-social-media-the-beginning-of-the-end-for-a-free-internet. Part of the blog talk about possibility of age/identity verification will be forced on VPN provider by more country.

The slippery slope of age verification. VPN next?

Restrictions introduced at the national level can be bypassed by changing one’s geographic location digitally, using tools such as VPNs, virtual phone numbers, eSIM cards, Tor and dedicated services. This has already led politicians in several countries to consider introducing identity verification for VPN services (presumably because VPNs are the most common and accessible method of changing digital location).

Do you know if there's any mitigation or protection against malicious provider that log IP and traffic? On Tor, it's mitigated with multi-hop and HTTPS. But when i checked that website, i didn't find related article or explanation about it.

Don't tell me you didn't see this part: "Do not send any funds to me now." Wink

This is marketplace and early days so people can set any prices they want.
Doesn't that mean you'll basically be trusting complete strangers with your data? If they wanted to, they could spy on you, right?

Mullvad being shut down is not very high on my list of potential concerns Wink

If anyone is interested to get 1 month of FREE NYM VPN, contact me to send you the link.
You can test it for one month and cancel if you don't like it.

Therefore, assuming the use with unknown users can be a risky option.
Even using regular VPN and Tor is risky, recent example of Mullvad showed that.

Do you know if there's any mitigation or protection against malicious provider that log IP and traffic? On Tor, it's mitigated with multi-hop and HTTPS. But when i checked that website, i didn't find related article or explanation about it.
Nope.
You can always contact and ask them yourself.

Don't tell me you didn't see this part: "Do not send any funds to me now." Wink
This literally started few days ago, and there is also 500 sat/day that can be used.

It's a little different.

In a common service, the data will always go to a general server used by thousands of people
Then there can be an exchange of information and lead to a person who has nothing to do with the subject

The shared VPNs, you have unknown people using your net directly. Basically they are saying that they are in your house.
Therefore, this can bring more complications.

I'm not really familiar with how exactly NostrVPN works, but if the analogy is correct I doubt a lot of people would use them. At first I thought it's kinda similar to Tor, not sure I'd describe Tor with someone is being in my house. It also assumes the traffic can be easily decrypted by anyone as long as they know which routes the data take. Is it really that bad?

From what I understand about NostrVPN (there isn't much information on the website), it's a VPN for internal use, meaning it allows you to go anywhere, connect to your VPN, and access the internet as if you were at home.

Basically, it's the same system many companies use, allowing their employees to work from home as if they were in the office.

If you start giving your VPN access to strangers, even with the necessary security measures to prevent them from accessing your home network, you end up being their gateway to the internet. Everything they do online will be like someone in your home doing it.
