Electrum and windows not seeing coldcard

im running the newest vertion of electrum (newly deleted and downloaded)

im useing i data micro usb cable

any help would be great

1. What version of Windows do you use?
- windows 10 pro
2. By newest version of Electrum, do you mean Electrum 4.1.5?
- yes


3. Did you this guide https://coldcard.com/docs/quick#using-with-electrum-via-usb?
- yes, i think so but did not use PGP signature.


4. What do you mean by Windows not seeing coldcard? No device detected on "Device Manager" when you plug Coldcard?
- yes - i cant se it on device manager

I also don't use ColdCard, but:
1. Did you get a MicroUSB cable from ColdCard or you just use "any" from home? The background is that some such cables are only for charging, and some are also for data transfer; you clearly need one for data transfer (and probably ColdCard have provided that).
2. Windows gets sometimes errors with USB. Stop the computer, unplug that USB, start computer, plug the USB into another USB plug, give it a few seconds to update drivers, and see then if it's better. (It can probably done without restart, but I wanted to be on the super safe side)

i cant do these steps: (becuae electrum does not give me any file menu...

select "New/Restore" from File menu
pick file name
pick "Standard Wallet"
pick "Use a hardware device"
select the Coldcard device shown
choose Segwit or classic address format
operates like any other USB hardware wallet



regarding cable - im pretty sure that my cable has data because of its pins but maybe this is the problem

1. For safety, make sure you download electrum from electrum.org and verify it: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-verify-your-electrum-download/
2. at starting a fresh electrum you will have:
* select server: auto connect <next>
* you can keep default_wallet <next>
* standard wallet <next>
* use hardware device <next> -> here your ColdCard should be seen, at least that's how electrum works with my Ledger.

OK, I've spent some time to research and I have 2 tutorials for you; from what I see ColdCard can be used in 2 ways, one like Ledger/Trezor and one "airgapped".
I think that the first one you need anyway, if you didn't do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCOpEkaZ7y4   until about minute 7:00
Also update to latest firmware may be indeed useful.

(The airgapped part is something very nice, it should provide more safety than "always use cable", but you need the SD card and the cable has to be data cable which I don't know it is or not)

Coldcard does not give you a cable, but I have never had an issue with any of the ones I have around the house.
What are you seeing on the screen when you have the coldcard screen when you plugged it in?
Did you do the initial coldcard setup?

Coldcard will not appear in your computer without the pin if you type and open your coldcard with pin code it should show up in your PC or device manager.

If it doesn't detect there is a connection issue between your coldcard wallet to PC you must check the MicroUSB cable and the MicroUSB port. You can try to clean it isopropyl alcohol/ petrol or thinner and maybe the MicroUSB port is full of dirt.

If it still doesn't work then your MicroUSB port needs to be replaced with a new one so you will need to hire someone to replace it for you or do it with yourself.

Another option is to use it as an airgapped just like the above said so you will need to generate a wallet directly in your coldcard you can find it under Advanced>MicroSD Card>Export Wallet>Electrum Wallet it should generate a skeleton file or wallet.json file that you can import to Electrum. sorry for late reply

i am now going to follow the link shared and try that way. i feel i have tried everything else. but otherwise try buy a new cable where i am sure it has data. i feel i have tried with the ones i have used before but am unsure.

just to answer the other questions the coldcard does turn on asks me for pin and so on, where after it still does not show up on my device manager

I ill try follow the way of doing it ''wireless'' with sd card
