I have been attempting to sync my wallet for about 4 days now, and I still have 72424 blocks left. Is there a way I can speed up the process?

I only have 8 connections with the bitcoin network, which I hear can be a porting issue. However, any remedy I've found to this involves somehow messing with the router, which I don't have access to as I live in college dorms and the router is locked away in some room somewhere.

How can I speed up this process?

douche answer: get an internet!
normal answer: try to use a wallet that do not need you to sync with the network: blockchain etc.

tired of identical bitcoin forks? try out BCN - no ASICs, no transaction tracking https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=512747.0

Is there no way to do it with the traditional wallet?
