There are some easy to train breeds, I think Bengals and Savannah are among those. Seen them fetching, reacting to commands, walking next to owner without a leash.

I think the title of this post should be "Are house cats are Overrated and Useless" Instead of " Are house cats useful? "..! No offense :p

I'm almost angry because I was made to believe cats are smart and also to consider dogs stupid because they would bark at me for no apparent reasons, which I then find very offensive and disrespectful. It's my fault really.....for taking this long to ask the same questions I'm sure dogs wonder about and was simply trying to get our attention with their constant barking. I grew up in a pet-free environment and may now think of cats as moochers because of this.

I'm allergic and dislike cats not for that specific reason but because I generally don't like them.

Yes they are useful if your house is full of rats. Any of your family member is allergic or asthmatic patient then avoid cats.

Other than having narcissistic image of themselves plastered all over the net.... Are we just a free meal ticket for house cats? I'd imagine lions and tigers would ripped them to shreds for being slackers.... How is it house cats manage to convince everyone they're smart when they're so hard to train. Aren't house cats taking advantage of persons suffering from emotional instability? jarhead A member of the United States Marine Corps. When used by civilians it could be considered derogatory, but it is used often among Marines. The term originates from the "high and tight" haircut that many Marines have, which makes their head look like a jar. It did NOT originate from their uniform or cover. "Oorah jarhead, semper fi!" Are you a jarhead, jarhed?

if you have mice or if you keep them in your yard I had 2 cats, they weren't exacly house cats as they were in the yard and not allowed in the house but you get the point they were some crazy ninja cats who killed snakes, literally they ate fucking snakes, they killed them all now I can walk freely in my yard

It depends upon your home. If you are surrounded by rodents it is useful to keep cats in your house.

Mostly people think that cats are not so friendly (like dogs). That's not true, when I come home, my cat always waits me and looks like she's happy to see me back home. Also cats are extremely supportive - when I feel sad and start to cry, my cat is always near, purring and rubbing her head on my leg.

People who don't like cats have never had a good one. Start with a kitten and treat it really nice.....Oops Don't let it get too spoiled. I think that pretty much sums it up for me right there. I never had a cat and don't really trust them. I've been around some pretty cool cats and when they purr and hang around me I feel very relaxed but I'm not around cats often. Other times I'm around cats and they are tense I get very uncomfortable and don't like the vibes they give off not to mention their claws and fangs really freak me out haha. All that being said I've always wanted to have a dog and cat that got along in the same house.

I own a dog and I am thinking that it is really annoying to bring it out 3 times a day half an hour each. She is a beautiful puppy half border collie and she is very nice in behaviour but sometimes I would Bury her in the ground.

Umm, based on all post so far, cats are useful only if..........
You have rodents (and dislike pesticides and exterminators) You lack a significant other (and or emotionally needy) You have children (and they get anything)
Well, whatever makes you happy and fulfilled as a person......to each their own.

Apartment no but if you have a house with backyard then yes.
Cats are amazing hunters they will clear your house of any potential rats or large critters such as large spiders.

Why do you say cats damage furniture? You can clip their nails, if you don't know how you can ask a vet to do it.
