You know cat is good to keep in your house if you feel alone. Cat can be a good friend.

Unfortunately cats are a little bit 'unresponsive' animals in my opinion. You talk to them and they just don't care about anything you said in most cases. Cats can be trained of course, and I have seen some trained cats, but it is very rare and you need to be very dedicated to do this.

TL;DR If you want animal with a heart pick a dog. If you don't have time for waking with the dog - pick cat.

House cats can be useful because they are extremely entertaining and they may scare potential rodents out of the house into hiding.

House cats can be useful because they are extremely entertaining and they may scare potential rodents out of the house into hiding.

It's likely that cats were originally domesticated as a means of controlling rodents. With the rise of agriculture and urban living, grain storage became necessary, and this attracted rats and mice. Cats are very effective hunters and became natural allies. In modern times, cats in rural areas still serve in this vital role. But more often than not, cats are kept as companions and playmates.

Cats are very sensitive and somehow know if you are feeling unwell or sad –and yeah, your right, you're never alone with a cat as your friend.

@ OP - I'm not too sure how "useful" cats are but they're certainly very nice to look at, play with and great company! (as long as their fed)

Not in a 1st world country. Cats are fucking useless other than to sit around and meow at you to pet them.

Yes. Especially when a dog gets a hold of your child and the cat comes to the rescue.

For one thing, they are cute as hell. (that tends to work for people as well) for another, they keep out pests like mice and bugs. but really, they offer great companionship. anyone who has to ask the question must not have cats. Wink

Other than having narcissistic image of themselves plastered all over the net.... Undecided

Are we just a free meal ticket for house cats? I'd imagine lions and tigers would ripped them to shreds for being slackers....

How is it house cats manage to convince everyone they're smart when they're so hard to train.

Aren't house cats taking advantage of persons suffering from emotional instability?  Huh

Are you trolling? Or perhaps you never had an animal..

Pets are great. Why ?

- They can comfort you.
- They never argue with you.
- They are fun.
- They become part of the family.

You will connect even more with a dog than a cat though. A dog is usually always happy, and everytime you come home, even if you left the house only for 10 minutes, when you come back home, it's a greeting ceremony that's fantastic!

A dog:

- Loves you unconditionally
- Never makes a hole in your head with smalltalk.
- Can give you much of that closeness, touch and love a human requires.
- Will always go for a walk.
- Always sides with you.

Suggesting that people who keep pets are emotionally unstable is stretching it, and would either have to be trolling or the talk of someone not knowing what such a pet-owner relationship is like.

Research shows that being around pets has many advantages in terms of health. All creatures are also dependent on touch. And for many people making relationships with other humans is not that easy, so then their pet becomes everything for them.

Never, never, never, never, never-ever - NEVER feed a barn cat. First one was okay... it's still with us - someone's former housecat and mostly alright, but clingy as Hell even though it catches its food. Spends most of its day outside our door, meowing as loud as able. Second was a bit too aggressive, but tolerable and fairly non-clingy... ended up pregnant - 5 disappeared, one was dead in a flowerpot, cat kept running away from the kittens and called our bluff of not wanting to take in 6 new cats. She visits every few weeks, but has mostly moved on. Third was a psycho missing half its tail and a toe (which it made up for by having six toes on another paw). Scratched daughter more than a few times and bit hard into flesh when happy. He was kicked out with prejudice. There's a fourth one - enormous, mangy, orange fuck - who occasionally glares at us at a distance, like it's casing the house and plotting to murder us in our sleep. He'll attack any other cats which come near it.

Dogs are too loud, needy, and the one we have sheds at an unbelievable rate (takes a while to get its fur out of the carb's air filter on the mower). Ferrets are kind of fun... wouldn't mind having a ferret around... maybe a trained guard ferret. Nobody'd expect a ferret to run up their pants and bite their balls off. -Or just a few fish.
