Hi!. That's interesting. How are you accepting payments? LN? Or maybe through blockchain and don't wait for confirmation? Both?

Nice move but don't you think the Government can come after your Bank Account if they know you are collecting Bitcoin as payment because we know that the Government has instructed all financial institutions to block any Bank account with cryptocurrency transactions, and as @Poker Player asked, what is your mode of payment?

Hello, friends am from Nigeria a country where government regulation on cryptocurrency is flexible according to the law,
Regulations of cryptocurrency in Nigeria are not flexible, the government has banned all financial institutions from getting involved with Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, meaning the only way to buy or sell Bitcoin as a Nigerian is through peer to peer transactions.

In December 2022 I launched a campaign among crypto friends to adopt Bitcoin as a mode of payment in our venture and outlets, on 31st of January I open a Coffee shop and the Capital City Abuja for Bitcoin and none Bitcoin customers. This is aimed at promoting Bitcoin adoption and, as a newbie member here, I wish to see your advice and suggestions.
How do you plan to facilitate cryptocurrency related transactions for your business?

You want to see our advise and suggestions about what?
How to promote Bitcoin or how to grow your coffee shop business?Or maybe both.
My only marketing advise would be to find local online groups of Bitcoiners in your city and invite them to your coffee shop.If there aren't any online local Bitcoiner groups in your city, then why don't you just create one (on Facebook or some other social media)and invite Nigerian Bitcoiners to join the group.
I can't dive you any advise about how to deal with the crypto laws and regulations in your country.
I guess that the anti-crypto regulations in many African countries are the main reason why there are so many Africans on p2p Bitcoin platforms like Paxful.

Maybe you can do find any of the cryptocurrency related service provider or a wallet. Request them for a collaboration, because you're focusing on spreading the word about bitcoin and make it a daily usable currency. As you've got bitcoin as well as non-bitcoiners as customers. Maybe a non bitcoiner too will prefer using bitcoin when provided with some sign-up bonus from a wallet service provider or a cryptocurrency service provider with whom you've made a collaboration. This could mutually add a customer to you as well as the cryptocurrency service provider.

I applaud your efforts and will to grind as a business owner. I would suggest broadening you scope with more crypto than just BTC. It's because, for some years now, BTC has been considered as a store of value, as you would think of gold, a long-term investment, and usually, people don't want to touch their investments. Look at it as if you sold a tiny percentage of your real state investment for coffee. Now, other crypto coins do not have that stigma, and people trade and pay with them more freely, so maybe that some thing to take into account. I wish you luck.

There are a couple of things here,
31st January was yesterday so you can't really expect a lot of customers in first day of your business and we all know bitcoin adoption (even in a place with most adoption) is still pretty small so the chances of a bitcoiner coming to a brand new shop in its first day is tiny.
Keep in mind that generally speaking bitcoiners (specially when price has dropped recently) are reluctant to spend their bitcoin. They are more willing when price is rising up or has gone up a lot. We've had a big drop recently.

Also you may have overestimated the adoption level in your country. I don't have any data on Nigeria  and in my experience sometimes statistics are not reliable at all.

Finally it may be the business itself, coffee may not attract that many bitcoiners. For example I've seen a couple of shops selling computer hardware a couple of years ago that accepted bitcoin in my city and they were happy with the number of payments they had gotten until then.
But again, don't lose hope. It is the start, maybe start some promotional campaigns and advertise your business.

Is it December 2021 when you've launched the campaign with your friends and just yesterday you've announced the opening of your coffee shop?
Odusko if it was launched yesterday and you haven't seen some bitcoin paying customers. That's okay, it will take time until your coffee shop will be flooded over by them. You're doing a great job and initiative with that campaign and as well as opening your business. You just have to keep on doing what you've started and learned more about your local exchanges there because it's easier for you and your customers if you can transact off-chain to have zero fees.

What I mean by the world flexibility is that the federal government of Nigeria has not decided on cryptocurrency yet, this makes citizens not convict to the use of p2p, only the central financial institutions are instructed not to offer cryptocurrency-related transactions, and facilitation of crypto transactions through the banking system.

Thanks to this correction, developing countries is a more appropriate phrase rather than the third world.

I understand that Nigeria has a good rate of cryptocurrency adoption as more and more unbanked people find it interesting and convenience to be pay and be paid with cryptocurrency but there is a big hindrance to this story and it is, of course, no other than the government itself which is poised to never recognized and regulate cryptocurrency because of unfounded fear that it can open the Pandora's box and they in power can be affected at the end. Well, peer-to-peer can surely be done in this case and I think this quite popular in Nigeria. Will it be possible that there can be an app where people can use to enjoy cryptocurrency just like paying for a cup of coffee somewhere?

paying for coffee with bitcoin, whether you pay with blockchain or with LN, it sounds interesting, but we need to know that there are too many risks that we have to face, because the first problem may be because it involves the government, because the government can track all your transactions, I personally don't will do all that, I prefer to pay using fiat, because I prefer bitcoin as an investment, and will not use bitcoin to buy small things, but different depths of fish, different people have different ways of thinking.

Congratulations on your new business and I hope your business will thrive. Every new business certainly has challenges in running it including what you did, maybe you need to join the crypto community in Nigeria so you can promote your business, from some of the information I read, actually Nigeria is a country that also prohibits crypto transactions but so far the ban has had no effect at all on increasing the crypto community in the nigeria, and even reportedly many crypto communities are doing crypto exchange directly or P2P in the country, so in my opinion, the only way to get your coffee shop visitors  with buyers who using bitcoin is the way :  you must join the crypto community in the nigeria, so you can socialize with fellow crypto lovers while you promote your coffee shop to them.

The first suggestion is actually a must to everyone opening a business and I'm quite intrigued you haven't mentioned it.
How about telling poeple even in your own Nigerian community on this forum what's the name of the coffee shop, where is located, and put some pictures about it so poeple would know where to go. Why you haven't done such a thing is beyond me.

~
But again, don't lose hope. It is the start, maybe start some promotional campaigns and advertise your business.

When he tries to keep the business as secret as possible, not once mentioned before in all his posts, not a flyer nothing seems to me like he is trying to run a secret society club or a conspiracy den rather than an actual business.

For the first ,it would be nice if you tried to socialize it to the public, about the good and the convenience when they have bitcoin, and you're also have to convey the bad side when later they have bitcoin and will make transactions using bitcoin.
I think they should know that

Nigeria being an anti-Bitcoin country has really shown how bad the option is and that operating a business that publicly accepts Bitcoin may be hard maybe you should update us more on how you intend to promote this coffee business of yours.

Maybe idk, create a social media page first instead of posting about it like this? Then just link that page to the post or to an advertisement in the marketplace or something. A lot better as a form of introduction to your supposed to be made coffee shop. Heck, you should've started introducing it locally even before here, that is unless you were offering some online assortments that deliver globally, then you can start introducing it to a global audience, such as here, where the majority (if not all) are Bitcoin enthusiasts which is your target audience.

I wish to see your advice and suggestions.

don't break the laws just because you want to see bitcoin being adopted in your country, if you're not breaking the laws then i congratulate you, but why didn't you post the caffe name and location?

Nigeria being an anti-Bitcoin country has really shown how bad the option is and that operating a business that publicly accepts Bitcoin may be hard maybe you should update us more on how you intend to promote this coffee business of yours.

Thanks for sharing your story! That’s very cool of you to share as well of course extremely cool of you to have opened up. I’m curious are there a lot of your fellow countrymen who feel the same way about bitcoin and cryptocurrency? Thanks thanks again for sharing!

You're welcome, but then Crypto Currency in Nigeria are not being supported not backed by the government.
You should carry out a good research about it, good to see you opened a coffee shop and accepts Bitcoin as a means of payment.
Late January, I was involved in a football competition that paid it's winner's in bitcoin and I was lucky to be one of them, winning the highest goal scorer award with payment made in Bitcoin.
Nigeria is doing good, being one of the top five that are using bitcoin and Crypto Currencies.

It is good to hear that you accept bitcoin in your coffee shop but you don't expect that you are promoting bitcoin by doing that . Bitcoin already has it reach as decentralised cryptocurrency and will reach all places for adoption with the time going on. I do encourage you to have open intention to accept bitcoin which will be a hodling advantage to you. If the government has ban it you need to be careful because it will be crime if you get trace.

right, in my country, I have not been able to process transactions using bitcoin because this was inseparable from before the adoption of bitcoin, so for now it is not possible to process transactions, but if the bitcoin production process has been carried out thoroughly in various countries then it is not impossible for bitcoin can be done as a legal medium of exchange in the transaction process

I am curious if you are running your coffee stand using LN or just using on chain transactions. I cant imagine it being very convenient especially for a business to take on chain payments in regards to selling things in person. If you are using on-chain transactions, have you had any impatient customers waiting for the block to be validated? Obviously you don't have these issues if you are running some sort of lightning service.

Definately use the lightning network. That would make the payments easier and I think you should also remember that you need a bunch of people already committed to buying the coffee in Bitcoins. The payment system might now be adopted right away. At the same time it's better to scan and pay than give them the address since lot of them might make mistakes.
It needs to be very convenient and at the same time some people might need help, you might have to spend a lot with advertising as well for the begining since there aren't many Bitcoin based coffee shops therefore people might be curious also I have seen that Nigerians are quite interested in Bitcoins therefore this might run better than expected as well.

Welcome here to the Bitcointalk community that all talks about crypto especially in bitcoin.
First, you should contact or seek a lawyer about that and know about how the status of bitcoin adoption in your country because I have heard somewhere else that your country Nigeria is very strict on bitcoin policy and when it comes to financial institutions.

Second is you should know how to set up and bitcoin wallet that accepts bitcoin which is support low fees. It must be accepting a lightning network so that it will reduce the fee. It should be a convenient way of processing the fee, QR codes maybe that is good enough.

The ops have not replied to comments for a while now and many other members have asked similar questions but no answer, I will suggest the ops uses the bitcoin lightning network for faster transaction and low fees aside from LN payment with Bitcoin will still be stressful and costly.

There is always a difference between you pay for a cryptocurrency which is the basis of cost and the market value when you spend it. This difference can trigger income capital gains tax which you have to pay along with other taxes such as sales tax. Bitcoin also needs to become legal in your country if bitcoin's transaction system is good its transaction will be easier like fiat's its transaction has not started yet so it will take time.

In their country it is said that bitcoin regulation is flexible so btc is allowed but there are a strong warning about its risk and I think this can the reason why some people are afraid to use bitcoin on their country.

I think if btc is purely approved and supported by the government and wont say any negative thoughts with it, I think people on their country are also going to get motivated to use bitcoin just like on other countries, countries like El Salvador where they make btc as a legal tender and there are even bitcoin cities on them , this made the people confident on using bitcoin. OP could hope the same thing for their country but for now , he can accept other payment methods for his business.

Hello, friends am from Nigeria a country where government regulation on cryptocurrency is flexible according to the law, the CBN which is the apex central bank warns against the risk involved in it and advise Nigeria to be careful, but Nigeria is one of the highest in terms of cryptocurrency adoption according to statistics. With the decentralized nature of Bitcoin that have Thousands of Nigeria Citizens who have knowledge of blockchain and digital currencies and have adopted it, In December 2022 I launched a campaign among crypto friends to adopt Bitcoin as a mode of payment in our venture and outlets, on 31st of January I open a Coffee shop and the Capital City Abuja for Bitcoin and none Bitcoin customers. This is aimed at promoting Bitcoin adoption and, as a newbie member here, I wish to see your advice and suggestions.

I also want to congratulate you on starting a business. A month doesn't mean anything. Make your product unique so that people are interested in paying with bitcoins. Now, everyone understands that buying small things with bitcoin is not a good idea, and you should accept these. But do not despair. What does it take to run a good business? Advertising. The name of the establishment. Talk about your coffee shop, make any discounts to attract customers. You need uniqueness for people to come to you.

Bitcoin is every where for all the countries except the local interior. People is making payments of bills now with bitcoin even some of the countries that does not accept Bitcoin as legal tender and always kicked against bitcoin, some payment of bitcoin is still going on in directly with out the awareness of government, see the thing we should talking is that it is hard before you see some one processed payment transaction with bitcoin legally but illegally before are doing that because bitcoin has reached to the level ground that people of all the countries is aware

In business, of course, uniqueness can be an attraction and differentiator for consumers in buying a product, I think a coffee shop is a business that has been quite popular for a long time, but the OP dares to take the risk by making it a different business from other coffee shops that accept fiat money, of course there will be a few obstacles later for the OP in developing a business with a payment method that may not be common to ordinary people, but gradually I think the OP will be able to overcome it and make OP coffee shop develop in that country, and Maybe the OP can follow what coffee shop owners in thailand are doing, namely apart from accepting payments in Bitcoin, the OP can also educate their visitors by analyzing bitcoin market movements and I think that will be a plus for the coffee shop later.

That's going to be a challenge, a coffee that's different than any other coffee in the market, pretty sure that they're going to need to up their quality and taste if they want to compete in that market. Not to mention that they also have to consider improving their quality because it's going to have a bigger impact than just being able to accept bitcoin for payments.

I have put all this into consideration and my promotion is on top gear I have free coffee for every first-time customer that pays with Bitcoin for the first time, and also I use the LN network for faster transactions and low fees. Transaction fees change with the price for a coffee so the customer is not paying the fees.

I salute the method applied by (OP). Accepting payment for coffee with bitcoin at the coffee shop as a way to introduce bitcoin in their environment, I'm sure it won't be easy, especially if people aren't used to it in that environment. Hopefully this marketing method can make the coffee shop more attractive and easier to identify thanks to the concept.

One of the major efforts to raise awareness of bitcoin's true function in society is with more adoption as a means of payment. But there are still quite a lot of countries that do not allow bitcoin as a means of payment because bitcoin is not a means of payment according to the laws of the country, including mine. Of course, this is a big obstacle for bitcoin to become a means of payment in various countries because the government cannot accept the decentralization of the currency circulating in the community.

When bitcoin is used for micropayments like buying coffee or just a pack of cigarettes, I just think of using LN better. Yes, that's great but still one can't do it all the time due to the limited adoption available. El Salvador will probably have more options that can be paid out with bitcoin, this will not be the same as other countries.

I am sure that soon - in the next 5-10 years, the world community will fully realize that there is no alternative to the legalization of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and I think in general they will allow us all to use them along with the rest of the "ordinary" money. Another thing is how the market will look by the time how many people have time to invest and lose capital before the market becomes resistant to all sorts of tweets from Twitter and so on. That's the main question I think. I think we can afford coffee.

paying for coffee with bitcoin, whether you pay with blockchain or with LN, it sounds interesting, but we need to know that there are too many risks that we have to face, because the first problem may be because it involves the government, because the government can track all your transactions, I personally don't will do all that, I prefer to pay using fiat, because I prefer bitcoin as an investment, and will not use bitcoin to buy small things, but different depths of fish, different people have different ways of thinking.
Its true that btc is a asset and we can use it as a investment .However he was talking about that he is just starting to promote btc and crypto through his coffee shop to show the adaption on it .Its really appreciating that he is just trying to spread the knowledge of btc and crypto largely by opening a coffee shop though its a small business but he is trying ,what we are really doing from our own place ?What can government do just can regulate it but he is nothing doing illegally .I think he is the man example for us that how can we spread the knowledge from our own stand .I am just thanking him and inspire to do more creating works that really make attraction to the people to show the mass adaption .

We live in a special moment with bitcoin, you have to take advantage of its simple idea P2P, come on! is not complex, so use any of the available technologies in case you want to be more attractive to different clients.

Depending on how formal your business is, the types of clients and of course the amount of the invoice to certain clients, they can be given the invoice in advance to manage their payment or have things like LN, "Binance" or simply a line payment credit to frequent customers in satoshi, capped at $20-$50. A client management program can work well here, implement a CRM or a simple spreadsheet.

But in any case, please! more enthusiastic like you are needed, thanks for this initiative, it is exciting to know that there are people anywhere in the world wanting to promote bitcoin.

It is very nice and enjoyable. What could be more exciting news for Bitcoiners is that they can pay with bitcoin at all the shops if they want.
I welcome your initiative, I hope you will also promote your Bitcoin adoption in the media world so that it can go viral in all countries. Maybe seeing your initiative will create new entrepreneurs from neighboring countries who will play a role in bitcoin adoption.

If you use 1 bitcoin on coffee, you can get up to a supply of coffee the size of a small apartment. You can buy things with fractions of bitcoins but it is difficult to pay those things online when you have bitcoin.

while in my country I can't carry out these transactions because bitcoin has not been widely adopted so that it can be realized until now but if the adoption process has been carried out by various countries then it is not impossible that we can do bitcoin as a legal transaction tool in the process any purchase, with the production process carried out by several countries can at least increase the popularity of bitcoin among the public

What point are you trying to make, if there is a Bitcoin lightning network wallet that can interact with a payment system then even the smallest bits will make a big difference because transactions will be done with a low fee and fast transaction confirmation time.

That's a great idea and I've seen many other African markets accepting bitcoin and cryptocurrencies because as far as I know bitcoin is accepted by the African governments more than other countries and there are more communities and interests by the African governments compared to other governments but still I have some questions for example how they exactly pat for the coffee, I mean bitcoin network do not have a stable transaction fee and transaction time so they have to pay the bitcoins and then wait for some minute to they need to pay extra fee for fast transactions which make no sense because when you want to pay only 2 bucks for a coffee you will need to pay 3 dollars for transition fee.

This is pretty good idea,  in my country am looking forward to established a Bitcoin cash taxi in South Sudan.  A country struggling with economic hardship.
This will be an opportunity for the youth to know more about Bitcoin.  Hold on,  am in a mission to spread the use of Bitcoin cash in South Sudan and empower my fellow young youth.  South Sudan pay with bitcoin coming soon.  Smiley

very good future discourse I see friends in Africa especially Nigeria trying to change and have become an example for other countries, even better not just one item, because our goal is for young people so that crypto can be more developed.
and hopefully understanding about crypto is not only in this forum we can get access to social media and share experiences with each other..!!

Nigeria population have adopted Bitcoin but the central bank is confuse about its stance on cryptocurrency despite the creation of the digital naira which the CBN governor said is not run on the blockchain, but with the low key promotion within the group of friends being able to reach a wider audience and since the coffee shop is not only Bitcoin base but also naira base too it makes it easy to promote in local media.

In December 2022 I launched a campaign among crypto friends to adopt Bitcoin as a mode of payment in our venture and outlets, on 31st of January I open a Coffee shop and the Capital City Abuja for Bitcoin and none Bitcoin customers.
Is it December 2022 or December 2021?
Is it legal to use Bitcoin as a payment tool in your country?
You must be careful about the regulation in your country. Firstly, make sure that it is legal, since you will have a problem if it is illegal. I really support your idea to promote Bitcoin usage in real life, but you need to do it in the right ways. We don't want it even makes Bitcoin have a bad reputation and you get some problems by accepting Bitcoin payment.

In a third-world African country, Nigeria operated by Female CEO. Hello, friends am from Nigeria a country where government regulation on cryptocurrency is flexible according to the law,
I can see the news about this unregulated cryptocurrency in Nigeria. This is not exactly illegal, but it is unregulated. As I have read in this quote:
Quote
While banks and other financial institutions are banned in Nigeria from trading in cryptocurrencies, cryptocurrency is not illegal, but it is unregulated.

However, I am also a little bit confused about the regulation. Are you okay if using Bitcoin as one of the payment methods?
I know that it is unregulated. However, how is it about this?
Quote
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has recently sent a letter to banks and other financial institutions in February 2021, stating that trading in cryptocurrencies and enabling payment for cryptocurrency exchanges are banned.
Is there any new information?
I took it from this source.

^ Definitely right but I think there are more effective approaches to invite people to your coffee shop. Paying for coffee with bitcoin is a nice idea, but it appears that most of us are unfamiliar with bitcoin and will need to learn about it before using it as a payment method because it is new to them. We must continue to educate them first in order for them to adopt bitcoin as a new payment option. I commend your efforts but don't give up hope. There are still other options to consider, just keep going and pursuing what you have started and if you would mind, keep updating us here what your unwanted experience.

OP, I wonder how you can manage the volatility of bitcoin price when you accepts bitcoin payment? Do you convert if to your local currency everyday or you keep holding it because we all know right now is not good to hold bitcoin since the price continue to fall from 67k to 32k last few days, what if this bear market continue for some months will you still continue to accept btc, its a bit risky for a business, right?

Looks like bitcoin is successfully entering the day-to-day lives of people! I have always been cautious about using bitcoin to make small payments. But it’s good to know that you can buy coffee with bitcoin. The day is not far when other retailers will also start accepting bitcoin for payments.

That's a good initiative right there. But are you planning to hold the bitcoins or convert them to fiat? Didn't CBN put a ban on using bitcoin. I heard that they closed all bank accounts that were involved with crypto currency transactions. How will you be converting them to fiat? What about the transactions? Do users have to wait for 1 network confirmation or you trust them enough to let them pay with zero confirmation? What about the network fee? How would you deal with high fees and network congestions?

I think OP isn't a newbie who doesn't know well about Bitcoin price volatility, so I believe he knows what to do. If he uses the payment in BTC for the daily needs of his coffee shop, then he probably converts the Bitcoin to his national currency. But if he already has enough funds, he may keep the BTC for his investment. It depends on how his financial strength in the coffee shop. So, don't need to be so afraid of the bearish, there are too many ways to deal with the price decline.

In a third-world African country, Nigeria operated by Female CEO.

Thank Odusko

It doesn't matter, I think Cofe pays with Bitcoin, this may be a new thing that I hear, but this unique thing is the main attraction for Bitcion lovers to enjoy coffee. And this I believe will become the bitcoin community will gather here and of course this is a positive thing for all of us bitcoin lovers in staying in touch.

However, my advice in promoting coffee should also use other social media such as Instagram, Facebook and others because I think it will be easier for people to know, because almost everyone in the world has a social media account. I hope success for you.

while in my country I can't carry out these transactions because bitcoin has not been widely adopted so that it can be realized until now but if the adoption process has been carried out by various countries then it is not impossible that we can do bitcoin as a legal transaction tool in the process any purchase, with the production process carried out by several countries can at least increase the popularity of bitcoin among the public

in my country also btc can not be used for legal tender. Because the regulations have been issued by the central government. So BTC can only be used for investment assets.
Maybe the government has done research on the bad effects and it's good to make payments with Btc. That's why Bitcoin is only allowed for investment assets, not for legal payment instruments.

Actually the government prohibits using Bitcoin as a means of payment will not work effectively, because there are still many people who can still
buy goods using Bitcoin even though it is illegal in their country. Then I don't believe if Bitcoin is used as payment in a country it will have a bad effect
on that country, the real reason is that these countries are too afraid that Bitcoin will replace their country's currency. In fact, if the government
properly studied Bitcoin, realizing that Bitcoin was legalized as payment would not threaten fiat. But I believe in the future more and more countries
will realize that it is a good thing to legalize Bitcoin as a payment. For now we can only be patient, and grateful that there are still many countries
that are neutral by legalizing Bitcoin as an investment.

as long as your goal is to indirectly educate many people that the use of bitcoin is also very doable, of course very good. but you also have to think about how it will impact yourself with the implementation you are doing, as long as it is not hindered by problems in making disbursement later it is clear what you did very well.
because by being able to accommodate bitcoins you can also play a role in playing the bitcoins that you get to be also profitable for yourself compared to you having to trade on the exchange of course.
Congratulations for the courage you do, of course, needs to be appreciated.

Every business operators are I think like us. They can use bitcoin in their products and then maybe hold bitcoin for sometime or when its value got really high and then they will sell a portion of it, it can be for fiat or can also be a direct spending for an item using their bitcoins  and no bank did not put a ban on them but only just a warning about the potential risks of using a crypto and I think this has to deal with the volatility but just to be safe he should inquire in the banks first if crypto related transactions are allowed or not so that no issues are going to be faced later on.

There are lots of complications with btc being used to pay but adding another crypto can solved the issue.

It is another good adaptation cryptocurrency is not just for about the investment but for the business to most of the business I saw that accepting the crypto is using a QR code or scanning some form and pasting or getting the address. Does the currency fix with the USD value like they paid 30$ and the wallet received 30$ worth of BTC like the gambling platform the hard thing in the crypto is volatile there's an instance it dumps so its not healthy on the business.

This is really a good move for more crypto adoption but you should consider the government rules and regulation about cryptocurrency and the cost of transaction fee for every cup of coffee.  Bitcoin transaction fee is too high, I don't think if people choose to pay with bitcoin in just a cup of coffee.

It's better before making a decision to use bitcoin as a means of paying for your coffee, you must first understand state policies before being penalized. if your country does sanction the use of bitcoin as a medium of exchange, I think Op's policy is very good with paying for coffee with bitcoin.
Regulations in each country are different. but if what happens is an agreement between the seller and the buyer of coffee for transactions using BTC I don't think it will be a problem.
it's the same as when I go to a neighboring country for a vacation. but ran out of money and far from changing money. some sellers also accept money from my country. they said they could later be able to help exchange it.
BTC regulations in each country are different. and it creates a dilemma for those who want to transact using bitcoin.

That's a good initiative from someone who supports blockchain and uses Bitcoin. It will be beneficial to your business as well as the crypto users in your community. If more people would have this kind of initiative, I'm sure that more will gain knowledge on how blockchain works in our daily lives. Most countries only need knowledge and awareness which could lead to crypto adoption in the future.

I find it amusing to see that third-world countries are starting to adapt and integrate BTC in their mode of transactions on payments. I just do not understand on why some first world countries are missing out in this opportunity, given that cryptocurrencies are starting to take over predominantly on the market.

With your business model, how do you plan on receiving the payment on your end? Once the transaction has been confirmed, will that verify/imply that you have received the payment? My only comment with this would be the time when you receive such confirmation as this may create lines on the restaurant. Anyway, wishing you all the best on your business, OP.

The law in my country does not ban Bitcoin in totality but only cautions citizens against the risk in Bitcoin investment, but since we can build adequate knowledge about the crypto industry we will be to manage ourselves through the problems associated with Bitcoin.

I choose not to purchase disposable, single use items like coffee with bitcoin because I see the long term value of holding my BTC.
Personally, I believe BTC will reach 100k in 2022 so purchasing coffee with crypto seems like a bad deal. On the other hand, I can understand buying items that you see as an investment with crypto.
For example, I have friends that have bought smart phones or cars with BTC because those purchases can potentially give one the ability to earn more money.

different in my country where trading activities are allowed, but prohibited as a means of payment, therefore if the government finds out there is a coffee shop that provides payments using bitcoin, it will deal with the law, so the rights will certainly be revoked. this kind of thing has happened in a tourism city, which has a lot of foreign tourists, but is currently banned by the government

I guess that's a good move If your goal is to spread Bitcoin adoption. This is one of the few effective ways to let the people be aware of the evolution in the financial field.
I know accepting Bitcoin may not draw many people to dispose fractions of their Btc for a cup of coffee, though there will be a handful I think who loves to experience paying with Btc for something, but this will be a huge step towards mass adoption.
Now, let's get down to how are you going to handle the terms of payment? Do you need full confirmation in blockchain or you release the product as long as the payment is pending in the blockchain?

Anyhow, for pages on this topic and yet we still don't have
- a clue where the coffee is located
- some pics of the coffee shop
yet the owner says is doing everything to promote it, lol.

In contrast, looking at another topic about coffee and crypto the first things posted where the location and picture of the menu.

Makes you really wonder, is this so-called coffee shop even real?

The Bitcoin transaction in Nigeria has not been implemented, Central Bank Of Nigeria still kick against bitcoin operation in Nigeria in times of founding and withdrawal into various local bank. If not the second option Binance Exchange brought towards operation peer to peer (P2P) payment. Nevertheless, opening a Coffee shop using bitcoin and other alt-coins as a means of payment is a very good one to let people know about bitcoin as a digital asset in the country where you can used and pay anything in the world.
Have been reading the comments and everyone kept saying that the government in Nigeria is not in support of cryptocurrency, hope that she wouldn’t run into any problem while running a coffee shop that allows payment with the use of cryptocurrency?

Unless maybe their government would not have any problem with someone who is running peer to peer transactions? If that’s the case then she’s not going to have any problem with them at all. But in the case that they are totally against its use in the country and doesn’t want to see it being used in any way at all, then she would have to be very careful. But I believe that it is not a big issue, since she’s living there and she knows what’s best.

socializing what crypto is to the public is the main thing, and we need knowledge that is quite relevant and easy to understand if visitors ask, and you need a payment platform to make it easier for you to transact crypto,
Lastly I want to ask if you are ready to have your bank account searched by the government

To adopt bitcoin as payment method for your business only isn't enough right now, because the adoption by potential customers is too low yet.

You also need to launch campaigns promoting bitcoin in your area together with your coffee shop or offer some interesting promotions and discounts for those who pay with bitcoin. This way people will feel incentivized to use btc as currency, so you will have the customers you are looking for.

Mass adoption is becoming more and more common. This shows that bitcoin is a useful digital asset and an optional payment tool. People who are interested in making payments with bitcoin or other altcoins will certainly try this option even if it's just paying for coffee using bitcoin.
Regarding how to handle payment terms, of course, full blockchain confirmation is the main requirement, because the transaction must actually be successful. Many third party platforms provide bitcoin or crypto payment methods for your shop or business, and it will be easier.

Glad to hear it, the more bitcoins are used as payments at the coffee shop the better utility bitcoin has as a way of introducing bitcoin to the world. I appreciate what Nigeria has be done, although there are still pros and cons, but that is the process of how crypto's existence survives

that's very good. a very good start by opening a business by accepting bitcoin as payment. it will attract entrepreneurs, or other visitors to use bitcoin, and may feel that bitcoin can be a very effective alternative.
however, in every business it may not work, especially if they also feel that bitcoin is very important to them, so they tend to hold onto their assets rather than exchange them. however, sooner or later, they will surely exchange the coins they have for coffee, sooner or later.

In a third-world African country, Nigeria operated by Female CEO.
I thought that the government in Nigeria has banned every operations that has to do with cryptocurrency? Because I saw the news, I think that was around last year or two years ago when they were even threatening to close down the accounts of people who were caught making use of cryptocurrency.

So, the only option that is available there now would be peer to peer method of trading and transactions, and I have heard that exchanges like Paxful and Local Bitcoin has been the trend since others that were centralized were banned from operating in the country.

Very interesting to know how you can operate a coffee shop in a country where cryptocurrency is banned and will also want to know the location of this coffee shop too as that will give credibility to this story as other members have also requested may be a government paper or certificate of operation will clear the air on this and will help promote your new coffee business.

Quite odd that a business do able to operate despite on a country or place on which crypto is banned or prohibited. If thats the case then i wouldnt be surprised if this business
would close out anytime soon, once there would be someone who will know that you are dealing with crypto but if not then thats a sure add up or option for those who do
make use of their crypto and applying it on some utility like on this one.Is it true that to add up some credibility of this info that this shop do exist then
saying up some location and actual pictures would be appreciated.

I don't think this will be a problem for the OP because as far as I know, all of such king of Businesses operating especially in places like FCT where the OP said will have to apply for a Government permit to operate so probably have one but I think since the issue would be that Crypto trading is restricted in Nigeria so how is the OP collecting payments and how popular is this news cos I know FCT is the seat of the Government and with a News like this, the Authorities will be on your AS$ ASAP for violation of the law.

maybe for now there are no customers who pay with Bitcoin in your shop but keep survive because in the future when more Nigerians understand bitcoin, then you will be the first and surely your coffee shop will be very famous.  staying afloat is the key to success in crypto.

Based on the purpose of introducing Bitcoin that you want to spread, it would be better to review the situation of the people around you. After all, even though a country, especially where you live, is almost familiar with crypto, the promotion aspect must continue. In this way, the launch of the project and the promised outlet will be expected to develop according to the goals to be achieved. Believe that over time, both the government and citizens will continue to pay attention to the growth of Bitcoin on a micro and macro scale.

In my country the price of coffee is so cheap that it is impossible to sell coffee using Bitcoin as a means of payment. If it is calculated, the transaction costs will be greater than the price of the coffee sold.
I think that's why you don't have any Bitcoin customers, nor do I know how much coffee costs in your country.
I prefer to sell something that is more valuable and has greater benefits, for example selling computer equipment, selling electronic equipment and selling household furniture such as (tables, chairs, cabinets, etc.)
I agree with you that bitcoin is not the best option for paying for purchases, as you spend almost as much on fees when you make small payments. There is also another important issue, which is the payment of taxes for the organisation. It is not clear to me how the government will regulate the purchases?

yhup probably that would be the reason why Op still don't have costumer up to now..and i think it will become more reasonable to have bitcoin as a payment if you're selling expensive coffee as well like" kopi luwak" which the price ranging between $100 to $200 because surely those rich people who loves such expensive coffee in your country will gonna visit your coffee shop and pay bitcoin and since they are rich probably they don't mind about the fess. Use LN if you want to pay for coffee at a lower price, it's a great payment option for smaller amounts with bitcoin. Although I suggest you use LN to pay smaller price with bitcoin but I have never tried it because my country prohibits using bitcoin as a means of payment. I have to convert bitcoin to fiat if I want to pay for something, so this is the reason why I haven't tried it yet.

Actually I also haven't tried whether Electrum can be used to send bitcoins worth $1-$2 with a transaction fee of 1 sat/byte. If that's possible then I think people still have the option of paying for a pack of cigarettes with bitcoin.

this is one of my dreams, which is to have a coffee shop that accepts payments with Bitcoin but what can I do, in my country Bitcoin is strictly prohibited as payment, business people who violate it will be penalized by the government and in the worst case scenario can be jailed. you are lucky enough to live in an area that is not so hard on Bitcoin, hope your business thrives.

For just an ordinary cup of coffee, it might seem like that but hey people are innovative to coffee these days and putting all kinds of stuff. Most coffee shops here in my country are also selling frappe. From that they could at least adjust the price up wherein, it won't be an issue where you pay a fee and get a free coffee. It's not that difficult to be honest, unless you're still doing a startup for coffee shop business though I would advise sticking first to fiat and wait for your business to expand as well as your capital before you put Bitcoin payments as an alternative method of transaction there.

this is one of my dreams, which is to have a coffee shop that accepts payments with Bitcoin but what can I do, in my country Bitcoin is strictly prohibited as payment, business people who violate it will be penalized by the government and in the worst case scenario can be jailed. you are lucky enough to live in an area that is not so hard on Bitcoin, hope your business thrives.
Ohh, that was soo sad. It sometimes happens that the government is our enemy, blocking our desires and a better future. But as the use of Bitcoins is strictly prohibited, you'd better not try as surely the authorities will come to you and that can be possible to OP as well.
Maybe, if you can move to another country where Bitcoin is not prohibited and continue your dream otherwise, you will run your coffee shop accepting fiat money only.

I find it amusing to see that third-world countries are starting to adapt and integrate BTC in their mode of transactions on payments. I just do not understand on why some first world countries are missing out in this opportunity, given that cryptocurrencies are starting to take over predominantly on the market.

Who is missing what?
https://coinmap.org/view/#/world/33.50475907/58.71093750/3

Anyhow, for pages on this topic and yet we still don't have
- a clue where the coffee is located
- some pics of the coffee shop
yet the owner says is doing everything to promote it, lol.

In contrast, looking at another topic about coffee and crypto the first things posted where the location and picture of the menu.

Makes you really wonder, is this so-called coffee shop even real?

Business is not easy in a harsh economy such as we have in Nigeria that is why so many starts up never attain success, in the long run, I have been going through paperwork for over some weeks now trying to get a certificate from the National Agency for food and drugs and also some revenue certificates all this is time and resources consuming, to this very moment the business has not fully kicked off because of all these challenges.

Yes mate we can not stop promoting Bitcoin as an alternative to faint currency 💵 if you check the statistics of global Bitcoin adoption a lot has happened in recent times as more people and companies are beginning to move to digital currency and blockchain adoption. Once the government is not an anti Bitcoin any business can easily drive to meet up with present global demands.

Although I am also very pro bitcoin, I know that all this is going to happen, in fact anything can be bought with BTC, I have seen on my phone that both Mc Donald, Wallmart, among other very famous chains will begin to accept BItcoin, and if a coffee is just something small with everything that will come, it is something impressive, but I think this will give rise or give the starting point for those countries that have stayed in the device and do not want to believe in BTC, this in itself will develop the mass adoption of BTC.

Does that make it easier for customers because not all of their customers recognize bitcoin, sometimes there are also new customers who don't know the crypto world, how do they pay for it?
Does he only enforce his payment with bitcoin only.?
I think he is better off making two payment methods other than bitcoin and paper money.
Because not all prospective customers think the same.

actually is your main goal is what? do you want to provide education to beginners there so they can get to know bitcoin better or so that your business can run well? actually can run simultaneously, because by educating many beginners, so that what you want to achieve can be realized properly. Of course, the effect of many who know bitcoin, the business you are pioneering will also get a reward from this, because they will pay with bitcoin.
Of course, what you just do is certain to experience obstacles because no business can be immediately successful, but the business you are starting needs to be appreciated and deserves it.
good luck for the future.

In a third-world African country, Nigeria operated by Female CEO.

Thank Odusko

Now the times have changed no longer in the 2010 position, everyone generally uses e-money applications for shopping and all transactions for online payments. So I'm not sure that people still understand Bitcoin which is easier than fiat e-money apps, I think it's a new sensation to enjoy coffee with BTC payments.

Allowing Bitcoin to pay for your coffee in my opinion is a good idea. Your intention to introduce Bitcoin to other people indirectly will also increase besides that you can still manage the business you are running. So both of them can keep running. Good concept if you really use it, because now crypto users are also increasing than last years.Payments using Bitcoin are also actually much easier and faster than fiat and don't take up space to store them.

I believe that currently Nigerians cannot buy bitcoin with their local currency. So Nigerians who want to trade their bitcoin find it necessary to generate their bitcoin income. They undertake their businesses so as not to lose the freedom that bitcoin gives them.
Seeing it from this point of view, if it is not prohibited by its rulers, there will be more entrepreneurship accepting bitcoin as a means of payment.
Good luck Nigerians, you have shown strength in pursuit of cherished freedom.

In a third-world African country, Nigeria operated by Female CEO.
What do you mean by Nigeria Operated by Female CEO? Is it Political presidential Office? Or Nigeria as an Organization? Please put me through to understand this your statement.

With the decentralized nature of Bitcoin that have Thousands of Nigeria Citizens who have knowledge of blockchain and digital currencies and have adopted it,
The regulation of bitcoin uses in the country was a Waterloo by the youths. That is the youth defeated government by neglecting the policy. Therefore, the policy became waterlose to the government. The law can't hold ground.

In December 2022 I launched a campaign among crypto friends to adopt Bitcoin as a mode of payment in our venture and outlets, on 31st of January I open a Coffee shop and the Capital City Abuja for Bitcoin and none Bitcoin customers.

Please I will want you to edit this part of your thread. You can't launched a bitcoin coffee shop in the month of December 2022 and while we are still in April 2022. It is not possible. Even animated fiction can not operate like that. I know that it is a mistake that you did and that is why I am telling you to edit it.

It’s was welcome move by this person. If I own a shop, surely I will follow this strategy.Because only we need to promote the bitcoin, since we was being with it.This strategy was similar to the NFT.After the boom of NFT,many people get out of forum and crypto currency fields. It was a sad one.No trusted bounty for now. Most of them scamming hunters. This was good move from the owner.

As cryptocurrency usage is regulated in specific countries it is possible to see stores accepting bitcoin in those countries in large scale compared to other countries of the world. In few countries there is heavy taxation, so if bitcoin is accepted then for every small transaction we need to pay heavy taxation.

Russia approved bitcoin as a form of money in order to hedge against the Russian ruble's depreciation and the Biden sanctions. What are your thoughts?

Putin is in favor of establishing bitcoin as a kind of money since he is threatening war and Biden's economic penalties will harm the ruble. He might still use bitcoin to transact in the global economy. I'd want to hear everyone's thoughts on this. Thanks for your response in advance Smiley

Russia has approved bitcoin as a form of money. This is good news for Bitcoin. Hopefully Gradually all countries will one day start giving importance to bitcoin.

What happens is that the btc must be accepted whether you like it or not, it is the only way that the money can enter the Russians well, the amount of sanctions and blockades that have been given to Russian citizens is simply enough to drive you crazy to any person, it is something that is very hard, if there is a technology like BTC, the smartest thing is to accept the technology and take advantage of it, at the moment Russia may be up against a rock and a hard place, but it has to find a way that its citizens have some normal life, as every human should have, the fact that their government wants to be at war does not mean that all of Russia wants war, and despite all the boycotts of Russian sites, the BTC would have a better privilege because its demand would increase, translating into a price increase due to high demand.

this is one of my dreams, which is to have a coffee shop that accepts payments with Bitcoin but what can I do, in my country Bitcoin is strictly prohibited as payment, business people who violate it will be penalized by the government and in the worst case scenario can be jailed. you are lucky enough to live in an area that is not so hard on Bitcoin, hope your business thrives.

Moving to another country is not necessary and will be quite difficult. I think he should continue his job of opening a coffee shop and paying in fiat, he can then convert the fiat to bitcoin at the end of the business day.
With the development getting stronger and stronger, in the future who knows one fine day the country where he lives will accept bitcoin and bitcoin legalizationand then he can fulfill his dream.

A Nice thing if we can pay anything with bitcoin, but the thing that makes me still reluctant to pay with bitcoin or other crypto is expensive transaction fees, if the price of a cup of coffee is only $ 5 but we have to pay a transaction fee of $ 15 or 3x the price of coffee, I hope to be able to transaction bitcoin with low fees.

In a third-world African country, Nigeria operated by Female CEO. Hello, friends am from Nigeria a country where government regulation on cryptocurrency is flexible according to the law, the CBN which is the apex central bank warns against the risk involved in it and advise Nigeria to be careful, but Nigeria is one of the highest in terms of cryptocurrency adoption according to statistics. after 4 months of operation mate? did you gather enough Bitcoin paying costumer? because though your intention is good but this will depend on the people crypto users in your place, I'm afraid that there will be willing to pay coffee using their bitcoin in your country because they find this very valuable just to spend in a cup of coffee.

This is fabulous. I believe the adoption of Bitcoin is two fold. One of which you are already doing. The other is the lobbying political leaders in the country. We really need them on your side if we are ever going to see a full fledged adoption. I hope you open more branches across the other states in the country. Cheers.

For a few years I have been looking for establishments that accept Bitcoin and talking to these entrepreneurs to understand the adoption. I was the first customer of most of these places, either years ago or today. The situation appears to be the same elsewhere in the world.

My day is to focus on building communities, establishing your coffee shop as a ''crypto hub'', maybe doing some events if there's room for co-working and all sorts of activities that make people who REALLY CARE/LIVE DE CRYPTO felt at home.

I think the only people who are willing to spend in Bitcoin are those who receive in cryptocurrencies and will need to settle at one time or another. Otherwise, the incentive to liquidate is too low.

So, my tip is: attract hard users by promoting value to them in some way (events, parties, reunions etc)

true, for now bitcoin is very valuable as a means of payment, because I believe in the minds of most people would want big profits by holding bitcoin. if so far many people have bought at your store with bitcoin, of course, the awareness of the people there is very high to restore bitcoin to its main function. and this can be used as an example, to realize the adoption of bitcoin on a large scale, because in Russia itself, it seems that it still insists on payments in rubles, in terms of a country with its fiat currency that is in trouble

I have only one question - is it worth spending bitcoin on this? In my opinion, now it is clearly not the best choice.

It depends entirely on what you consider Bitcoin to be. Have you ever heard of this phrase: "A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System"? Yes, that's the title of Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin Whitepaper written in 2008.

Is it a digital currency? Yes, it is. Is it a medium of exchange? Yes, it is. Is it a store of value? Yes, it can be under certain circumstances. It can also be a speculative asset. But that is not its primary function. The primary function of Bitcoin is to facilitate electronic transactions. If we stop using Bitcoin as a payment and transaction system, it has no purpose.

For your country as you say. I wish you the best in business. A good and a brave one for that matter.
My concerns are, how do you intend keeping the government away since its said to be banned??
How do you intend pay regulate payment since price is never stable. Lets say the equivalent for 2$ was 0.00020BTC few hours ago and right now 2$ is 0.0001BTC.. How do you intend to handle that since we’re all humans and humans are difficult to handle..

of course something good, with the aim of all introducing bitcoin to beginners or at least providing an opportunity for those who are not familiar with bitcoin so they can get to know them better. but like what you said @Slimzeee that every time bitcoin will continue to move because the price is indeed unstable, so it is certain that price differences will continue to occur, and of course there are good and negative sides that will happen.

if I see it, payment with bitcoin for small-scale transactions, is clearly not practical and will actually be detrimental to those who pay for it. if it is not effective for payment for just coffee or snacks, it is more useful if it is for large-scale payments. now a lot of digital money has been used and I think it's better to use it, or fiat is more practical.

That's a fantastic and innovative idea, and it will go a long way toward convincing people to believe in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. Nigeria is a country where the government has yet to legalize Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, therefore this proposal will instill a love of Bitcoin in many people's minds, because residents prefer to see things in action, so once they witness this, more people will adopt BTC and cryptocurrency.

-snip-.Payments using Bitcoin are also actually much easier and faster than fiat and don't take up space to store them.
Much faster may not be fully implemented. The best speed for sending bitcoins is using the Lightning network and this network is continuously being developed to make it easier and faster to send bitcoins.
Currently Fiat is also available in digital and faster in sending transactions. Fiat remains an irreplaceable competitor, but bitcoin may still be on par with Fiat today.

Even Eccommerce that specifically provides a payment platform via bitcoin or cryptocurrency is already available and you just need to apply it to the business you use like the coffee shop the OP talked about and it's very easy to implement.

I think the world is getting used to paying with bitcoin. Especially after the Russia-Ukraine war, the importance of bitcoin was understood again. Decentralized and uncontrollable money is very valuable.
Most of the people trust and love the feature of decentralization. Bitcoin has many uses and people are familiar with it. It can be a large payment gateway all over the world and currently, it is using to pay online and offline store.

maybe when this happens of course there is something that can be used as a balance there because it will be very loss if something like that happens and I'm pretty sure almost everyone is reluctant to do that because the fee is more expensive than the price bought Cheesy
But indeed this might be a little bit hampered and quite difficult to happen in all countries because indeed things like this are difficult to realize, especially in countries that still uphold fiat

Your bitcoin promotion strategy is innovative and I acknowledge your creativity. But you must ensure your coffee shop give quality services. Make sure your serve good coffee brands this would help in attracting more customers. The shop should also be decorated with bitcoin arts. I hope you understand that your coffee shop would for now attract only customers that are familiar with bitcoin, hence you can also use other mediums to sensitive the public about bitcoin. A free coffee bitcoin seminar in you shop would be nice. Also encourage your customers to come with friends and family members.

Nice to see you opened a coffee shop for crypto users in Nigeria, hopefully everything is going well and you make a little profit. It's good to hear that there is more and more demand around the world  for such business.  If Abuja wasn't so far away from me, I would definitely stop by for a coffee  Smiley, but would probably not pay with Bitcoins. At the moment I am still trying to rebuild my crypto portfolio, so paying anything for in bitcoins or other cryptos is counterproductive. It is important for any crypto coffee shop to accept a wide range of currencies, that makes it easier for the customer to pay in whatever is best for them. It would be nice also to maybe once a month make a get together for all the other crypto investors, that could come to your coffee shop and sit down and talk about new trends.

The thing that is fun because it can use Bitcoin directly, of course this is a good idea and makes more and more active users do not need to divert anymore to Fiat, I hope that more outlets and restaurants can receive bitcoin so that direct adoption will make many benefits.

it will go a long way toward convincing people to believe in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. Nigeria is a country where the government has yet to legalize Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, therefore this proposal will instill a love of Bitcoin in many people's minds, because residents prefer to see things in action, so once they witness this, more people will adopt BTC and cryptocurrency.
Yup to accept bitcoin to our service is innovative because bitcoin is a new form of money and it is fantastic because it is fast, digital and anonymous. When people tried to use btc, pretty sure they going to like it and will never go back on using a fiat again.

I know that the reason why some people don't use btc is because they are scared or not really familiar with it but the idea of the op can give people confidence and the op can educate people too or provide some demo on how btc works. It's a nice initiative and I hope many business owners are going to follow it. I am always looking forward to use my btc even just buying cup of coffee but sadly there are no such shops yet in my town Roll Eyes.

The thing that is fun because it can use Bitcoin directly, of course this is a good idea and makes more and more active users do not need to divert anymore to Fiat, I hope that more outlets and restaurants can receive bitcoin so that direct adoption will make many benefits.

On the other hand maybe we are very happy because they are able to get paid bitcoin directly but what if the government knows our work scenario, what will the government do whether the government continues to give us permission or they take the decision to apply taxes.

For the part of making payment, I don’t think that’s really much of a problem, because anyone that’s making payment will always make the same amount in fiat, but it will always differ in BTC. Whatever the value BTC is worth at the moment will always be converted to dollar and the customer will make that payment. And this is not even something that she will worry about, as it’s automatically being done in the wallet. So there’s no need to stress about this one.

The issue here is how she would deal with the regulation part and I have seen comments that it (Bitcoin) is not legal in the country.

That is indeed quite good but the problem is when we say payment via bitcoin then indeed we also have to look at transaction fees there because it will be very difficult for example if we really want to pay for something like the coffee the OP mentioned at a price that is quite cheap but the transaction fee is quite expensive to make it seem -as if paying a fee for free coffee Cheesy

In December 2022 I launched a campaign among crypto friends to adopt Bitcoin as a mode of payment in our venture and outlets, on 31st of January I open a Coffee shop and the Capital City Abuja for Bitcoin and none Bitcoin customers. This is aimed at promoting Bitcoin adoption

That is actually the best move i have ever had for a very long time, most especially from a lady from a country like Nigeria whose hate for crypto by its government may tend to demoralize certain citizens who aren't buoyant enough to understand how the crypto space work.
Nigerians has always been one of the top users of crypto not until the official ban of crypto by CBN, which made some people not to have access to crypto for that brief period and suddenly few months later, most top exchanges integrated the crypto p2p which i love so much as it makes us anonymous to bypass our country's crypto ban, and my best platforms has always been Binance and remitano, as you can buy bitcoin in seconds, and they also have a super active customer care ready at all times to resolve your issues.
So no matter what CBN trys to do, they can never stop Nigerians from taking part in crypto, because the country itself is hard and the government is doing nothing about it,  but rather trying to block the only means if survival for many of our Nigerian youths.

New innovative ideas usually bring more money and I am sure that this shop of coffee which allows bitcoin payment will attract many more customers as compared to the ordinary shops.
Do we have some stats as to how many people regularly buy coffee with bitcoin through this shop?

Crypto is not legalized in Nigeria every crypto investor is operating at their own risk. Bitcoin and other crypto curriencies were outrightly banned in Nigeria. Although Nigeria is a lawless country where laws are only made for the masses and the poor and not for the high classed citizens. Paying with bitcoin is only done on exchanges and you dare not include any information related to bitcoin or crypto currency in your transaction else your account stands to be frozen. It's risky doing crypto transaction in this part of Africa

As cryptocurrency usage is regulated in specific countries it is possible to see stores accepting bitcoin in those countries in large scale compared to other countries of the world. In few countries there is heavy taxation, so if bitcoin is accepted then for every small transaction we need to pay heavy taxation.
I agree with your statement, as long as you can pay with BTC you can state that anything that is defined with BTC has:

1.-Associate Fee
2.-TX that can be tracked.
3.-In a business it is likely that they require your data.

If we are people who love anonymity, privacy, I would refrain from paying with BTC.

This is something that we can all have in context because when we operate in complete security we have to take these things into account, and if we can avoid being tracked, it is much better.

This is true, but the same won't happen everytime. Just think of bitcoin as a mode of payment. It requires certain amount as transaction charge. People will think is it necessary to spend in such a way for a coffee when there is possibility to spend for the product and not for the transaction. As in the above quote, users who prefer anonymity could prefer it.

Oh really? That’s cool. I saw a post in this forum before from someone who is living in Nigeria claiming that Bitcoin was banned in Nigeria for some reason, I think because of a protest and the poster even said his account was locked for buying and selling bitcoin.

If you’re ale to operate a coffee shop that is accepting Bitcoin in the same country then I am guessing that cryptocurrency is now a legal asset in the country? That would be really good, because a lot of people who would be coming there are likely not going to know about Bitcoin, so it’s going to help in spreading the word.

The success of your business will depend on the general adoption of Bitcoin and how customers will be ready to pay with Bitcoin if cheaper and faster than using fiat since you accept both.

But the problem is? are we really willing to pay for coffee using bitcoin ? i will be truth here and the answer i? nope I  will never consider my Bitcoin to remain in my wallet than to spend in using for coffee.
I trust bitcoin to stay longer in my position because i know that i will make more money in holding than using this just for small things.

No country that will come and say that Bitcoin is legalize for their country fully, but in Nigeria were bitcoin is not legalize you can buy bitcoins with your bank details and you can sell your bitcoin to someone you are interested to sell your bitcoin to, bitcoin exist in Nigeria i dont know if you want to government to announce it before you go know that Bitcoin is legal since everybody is using bitcoin is not legalize

Yeah I better reserve my Bitcoin and make use of faint currency is the need be since Bitcoin worth more than just spending it on a cup of coffee, in other news Bitcoin adoption is a good move that can improve the general perspective.

Your statistics on the people using bitcoin in Nigeria is very correct. Even with the government regulations on stopping banks from involving in bitcoin transaction, the youths still see it as a means of survival and making transactions and payment easier. Using it to pay for a coffee, how safe is it for you with the laws surrounding the use of bitcoin in the country?

The success of your business will depend on the general adoption of Bitcoin and how customers will be ready to pay with Bitcoin if cheaper and faster than using fiat since you accept both.
But the problem is? are we really willing to pay for coffee using bitcoin ? i will be truth here and the answer i? nope I  will never consider my Bitcoin to remain in my wallet than to spend in using for coffee.
I trust bitcoin to stay longer in my position because i know that i will make more money in holding than using this just for small things.
Yeah I better reserve my Bitcoin and make use of faint currency is the need be since Bitcoin worth more than just spending it on a cup of coffee, in other news Bitcoin adoption is a good move that can improve the general perspective.
Lol, I don't understand your point because paying a cofee with bitcoin is not a bad thing, and it should only be fiat because btc is only for investment purposes.Lol, this is why Bitcoin was created in the first place; you haven't considered a broader application of this because it means that a broader adoption of this is imminent, as well as the future, in which only digital payments will be accepted.

The thing that is fun because it can use Bitcoin directly, of course this is a good idea and makes more and more active users do not need to divert anymore to Fiat, I hope that more outlets and restaurants can receive bitcoin so that direct adoption will make many benefits.

It’s really a great initiative to make more people into crypto.
But the fact is that, in Nigeria Bitcoins are not legalised, so OP will surely don’t have enough payments from Bitcoins i guess.
Also accepting Bitcoins openly in front of the government and not paying any tax also be harmful for both the OP and the coffee shop.
Moreover I would say it’s great to see that the OP has taken the great decision by accepting Bitcoins as one of their payment methods.
It would be great if OP could share the stats, like how much sales he has made through cryptos and whether he is using blockchain or Lightening network?

It's great innovation seeing people getting involve in case crypto related business here in Nigeria considering the blackish it has been painted by our government. But no matter our great I see the work I still feel it's kind of risk getting publicly involved in cryptocurrency here in Nigeria. And for people paying through BTC, wouldn't the current ban also scare people off in getting involve since they don't know who is in charge. Some might consider paying with FIAT. I think the first thing to do now is to have a larger community of Bitcoin enthusiasts just like us either creating awareness through social media and then afterwards you can consider your plans again in getting into the business. But it's a great innovation though. Thumbs up

I think "A lot can happen over coffee".. The Bit coin is brewing up into a elixer which everyone will seek in future.
Cofee is just a start, in future we will see major online stores accepting bitcoin and this will give a major boost to bitcoin economy. Those who belive that days of astronomical returns from bitcoin are over, made a immature calculation. As soon as major economies start accepting bitcoin, We will see astronomical rise in bitcoin economy

I think is good way begin with coffee store accepted payment currency using bitcoin next time have chance for other store adopt bitcoin as legal currency transaction, but still need allowed by Nigerian government they have adopt and legal using bitcoin as currency transaction payment or not. Nowadays have several shop store accepted bitcoin as legal currency transaction but they not asking about how regulation from their government by using bitcoin or cryptocurrency as payment currency, that have been legal or still not allowed.

There was  a Similar situation in My country as we are also a 3rd world country but the Coffee shop is 4 hours drive from my place meaning it is in 4 city from here so there is no time for me to visit .
But I'm planning for this in the next 3 months as my vacation is coming to place.
Lets support Business like this guys because this is how we can move adoption into reality if there are many cryptonians that will apply these currencies into their businesses.

Well, you are certainly not entirely wrong. This is something that the large markets do have. The main goal, in the case of Gucci, is to find new loyal customers and partners from a different crowd of people. Its just crypto fans that Gucci is after. Basically just a big PR Stunt do get crypto holders attention towards their own brand and their own company.

Marketing strategies aside, Gucci is not something I would buy even if the price did not bother me. I am a simple person with a simple philosophy: It does not matter whos logo is on your shoes, you're still a walking advertisement. Roll Eyes

i don't think it is going to happen in india anytime soon.

the government is keen on making sure that business don't start accepting btc as payment.

and the way they did this is very cruelly by adding 30% tax on crypto gains.

on top of that any expenses you incur accepting crypto cannot be deducted from the gains, such as platform fee, tx fee, etc.

therefore, the companies or business hoping to accept bitcoin for payment will just back off.

because they will not want to go through the hassle of doing so.

My country used to have a strong anti Bitcoin law that prohibits citizens from cryptocurrency transactions but we the youths have seen cryptocurrency as the way to financial freedom and have embraced its p2p usage, not until recently when the SEC gave out guidelines for cryptocurrency usage within the business space. But all pointed to taxation.

Here on my country where there are lots already of merchants which do really accept bitcoin and other altcoins in terms of their services or products which is something really that good to have
yet you would really be having options whether you do make use of your coins or would simply stick with fiat. For the benefit of doubt if you could make use of those coins then you would
really be trying it out but that would only good for few tries yet you would be minding about store of value which you wont really be wasting your coins on spending into those common
product or services because you do come after for long term possible profits.

I really love the idea of having stores and paying the food with bitcoin. Such a great idea and a good one since it is more convenient for bitcoin users. May other businesses do the same payment process.

You can receive a supply of coffee the size of a small apartment if you spend 1 bitcoin on coffee. You can buy products with fractions of bitcoins, but paying for them online using bitcoin is difficult.

This is definitely interesting news from the third world country where Government is already chasing the local currencies development so that they can settle up with dollar pricing. Introduction of bitcoin is always great for the local community because that’s one of the way to educate people. This is just first step towards it. After looking at banner of “bitcoin accepted here” people will be curious. They will definitely come asking about it, how to open wallets and everything. You should also place banners in short on how to open bitcoin wallets and start sending and receiving the coins so that it will turn into self educating point too. Good luck for everything.

That is true but on a second thought Bitcoin payment is becoming flexible this time, especially with the scan-to-pay method in most Bitcoin POS, and with the lightning, network transaction processing time and fees are on a minimal level.

What am most interested in the thread admin is informing us now is how the business has been able to survive the volatile attitude of the bitcoin market price.

As long as your government does not prohibit the use of crypto, especially bitcoin as a means of payment, of course, gradually people will start to be interested in the payments alternative that you offer, because now maybe payment with bitcoin is certainly more efficient than using fiat money for some people, I think the coffee business with payments bitcoin is now quite widespread and indicates that bitcoin is starting to be accepted by people in several countries such as your country, but if I may suggest, maybe you need to follow the example of some cafes that make bitcoin an attraction for consumers in Thailand, in addition to accepting payments with crypto , their also educate visitors with crypto and provide in-depth information on bitcoin market analysis.

Legality and adoption go hand in hand and perhaps in the future many countries will legalize the use of bitcoin as an alternative payment. You only need to spend a few units of bitcoin to pay for coffee without having to carry fiat, but you have to use LN. For a while I was still comfortable using fiat as a means of payment due to the adoption and legality of bitcoin. But I don't know if I can use it in the future because the government seems to prefer CBDC over legalizing bitcoin as a means of payment.

If the government permits to use the payment of Bitcoin, i think it is much better to use it. It will help to promote or introduce Bitcoin to someone else. By using Bitcoin payments it will help them to adopt it.

Congratulations on this new development this is going to be a good thing to look back upon in the next 5 to 8 years coming, your shop will be among the early shops to accept Bitcoin payment and this will also help build your business capacity with modern innovations that will further promote your business within your region most especially if you living among a small community of unbanked people.

I've heard of that, but I haven't met and done it in a row. But indeed my country prohibits Bitcoin from being used as a means of payment legally, they only allow it as a commodity asset. Indeed, if you look at the development of bitcoin, it has a very rapid development. Many have adopted the technology and accepted it as payment. But I have doubts about the density of the network and the fees are expensive, so it takes a long time to confirm and that is the weakness of Bitcoin.
During this time the development of bitcoin has been very good, I hope there is not much bad news and abuse for evil. If that happens, there will probably be more countries restricting the movement of bitcoin.

A good idea if Bitcoin is increasingly active and easy to use for direct transactions such as to pay a cup of coffee, this is an effective promotional tool and makes anyone want to do the same thing, namely paying or using bitcoin for direct transactions. But the thing that makes us curious is that transaction costs are sometimes high and need more than 10 minutes for 2 confirmation.

Nice initiative you have taken. These kind of bold steps further encourage others also to take the same route. You will also inspire your friends and customers to start accepting crypto for the services they offer.

Also, sharing this on this forum will also impact many. The forum has readership in millions and all these people will get to know about the benefits of crypto and bitcoin in genral. You have shown that how bitcoin can be integrated in daily life.

Paying for a cup of coffee in bitcoin, in my opinion, is really an effective advertising tool, as you say, and allows to get to know about bitcoin people closer. A person who sees the inscription "here you can pay for a cup of coffee in bitcoin" has the thought "Hmm, you can already buy coffee for bitcoin. It must be not just a toy for geeks and speculators, but something more serious and bigger." Which in turn will allow him to feel interest in bitcoin.

I assume that paying in bitcoin for a cup of coffee will not always be. This is relevant only at this stage of BTC's development, but in the future, no one will use bitcoin for coffee. This is the same as paying with a bar of gold for a pack of cigarettes. I'm sure bitcoin will find a whole new level of use for itself, but now we can't do without "paying for coffee" too.

Nigeria had an unregulated market for cryptocurrency and now Nigeria government have issued new laws on issuance, exchange and custody of digital assets. In the past Securities and Exchange Comission of Nigeria along with the Central Bank of Nigeria banned enterprises doing businesses with cryptocurrency. Today Nigeria's SEC have issued licenses to operate Virtual Asset Services. This has got more terms and conditions to be fulfilled to receive the licence. The service should fulfill anti-money laundering and financing of terrorism.

These growth helps the network to grow strong. Also people this will give some visibility make unknown people know about bitcoin. It is the decision of the CEO and she is quite strong to get into the market.

Hi!. That's interesting. How are you accepting payments? LN? Or maybe through blockchain and don't wait for confirmation? Both?
The subject is really very nice. If you pay for tea or coffee with Bitcoin. In different countries we have seen gas stations deliver gas with bitcoin. Then I saw that the hospital bill was paid with bitcoin.Food bills are paid with bitcoin at various restaurants. The advanced power of Bitcoin is astonishing people. We can imagine from this that Bitcoin transactions in all countries will start very soon in the future.

In a third-world African country, Nigeria operated by Female CEO. Hello, friends am from Nigeria a country where government regulation on cryptocurrency is flexible according to the law,
I think you have forgotten when the Nigerian government placed a ban on cryptocurrency transactions on the 5th of February 2021 and revisited on the case on the 23rd of February where the then Nigerian CNB governor  Mr Godwin Emefiele, explained reasons for restricting financial institutions from engaging in crypto transactions. Crypto is not flexible in Nigeria because personally i have seen cases of crypto operators arrested and prosecuted.

the CBN which is the apex central bank warns against the risk involved in it and advise Nigeria to be careful, but Nigeria is one of the highest in terms of cryptocurrency adoption according to statistics. Nigerians had to adopt the risky investment option from crypto to held stand up to the high inflation rate in the country

In December 2021 I launched a campaign among crypto friends to adopt Bitcoin as a mode of payment in our venture and outlets, on 31st of January I open a Coffee shop and the Capital City Abuja for Bitcoin and none Bitcoin customers. This is aimed at promoting Bitcoin adoption and, as a newbie member here, I wish to see your advice and suggestions.
A nice risk taken but ensure you to make enquiries on how safe it is to carry out Bitcoin transaction in Abuja. Campaigning about bitcoin is the ultimate at the moment because it gives total privacy to the holder but staying safe while doing what is right is more important

If the government permits to use the payment of Bitcoin, i think it is much better to use it. It will help to promote or introduce Bitcoin to someone else. By using Bitcoin payments it will help them to adopt it.
Their country allows it and the op already started using bitcoin on his business but he seems to be disappointed because none of its customers uses bitcoin for paying their coffee. My only advice to op is to accept that fact. Maybe people on his country only sees btc as as an asset and not as a currency.

We know Nigeria and other third world countries. They can value btc a lot and they won't just spend it easily because they know that the value of btc keeps on growing while for other developed countries they can use their btc on different purposes. For the op, he can retain this payment method on his business. It won't cause any harm anyway. Let's see if there's anyone will be interested to use their sooner or later.

I don't believe everything I read on the news. I don't think this ban is effective because I have other Nigerians on the forum implement Bitcoin payment in their business. The most recent one is The first gas station to accept Bitcoin in my region I don't think they will be campaigning Bitcoin openly if it is crime in the country.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria (SEC) has officially legalized the issuance of a set of digital asset regulations that contradicts CBN rules which have banned Crypto from circulating in the country, although Emefiele also directly reported that the bank was investigating Crypto so the opportunity to create a Crypto campaign in the country was still wide open like you who want to provide service to customers in order to get convenience in payment is a pretty good thing and you also have to think about the application that will be used to do it all.
