There is a running list of politicians that have been assassinated by drug cartels. These criminal organizations make up law enforcement and the government, and will stop any bright eyed politician who wants to invoke change by murdering them and leaving their body mutilated hanging from an overpass as a message.

A President does not get elected in a corruption riddled system. There are mechanisms in place to prevent those sorts of things from happening, just like in Mexico. Except the mechanism isn't one of governmental resistance, it's just murder. To each his own.

The only way corruption like this can  be defeated by a president who is different from other leaders who have served in the past, is if the citizens of that country can fully support and stand by their president. If other bad politicians sees that majority  of the citizens  are against corruption,  I think it will be tough for them to go against the president.

I see that in a corrupt government, people who perpetrate corruption are often trapped in their positions. Where, they do not want to lose their position, therefore they must follow orders from those whose position or position is higher than them. So there are many possible causes of corruption.

If you want the head of state to avoid corruption, in my opinion, you must be independent and not use the party as a vehicle to achieve power.

It is not that easy, but it is not impossible. He needs a lot of strength and continuous work to remove all sources of corruption. The new president needs to have the keys to power first so that he can fight corruption. This is easy because when you are the leader of the whole country, it means you are superior to everyone out there and you can implement some law that will automatically end that corruption era by waging war on those who are corrupt. When you guys heard Duterte, you already know what it means. the same guy who raided the house of a drug lord with a grenade. That's just how should it end because those guys love violence and sacrifice their life to save the younger generations in many ways better. I'm not a fan of random killings but to put them in their right place is the best thing you can do. It's true that with that percentage the world is really hard to cure with the corruption. But there are some special case that I've read, there are still people and leaders that really wants the best for their country and they're not just all talk but they're proving it through their deeds.

I'm not from that country and I've only read articles that seems to be giving him the positive outlook based on what he has done. Giving 90% of his salary for the benefits of his constituents is a noble act as a president. But whether he does good governance or not, there will always be the bad side comments about leadership and this is in general, for all leaders.

Assuming your president actually wants to get rid of it, he's in for a bumpy ride. Although it varies by country, those that are already in position will find ways to hinder your president's policies to remove corruption. And also, he's mostly only in control of his respective branch of government, which is already challenge enough, imagine trying to affect changes in the other branches.

I agree with what he is doing there but where I disagree is where he is handing you off to and that is big pharma an even bigger drug dealer than the violent small fries you once dealt with. Fighting against corruption is a topic which has always been very interesting for me because I have witnessed it devastating effects on economy and how it ruins the very fabric of the society. I have witnessed in my country How Political mafias loots and plunders wealth of the country and transfer it to their overseas accounts. Elections are very expensive. Campaigns, tours, publicity and bribing electorate is quite capital intensive. Sometimes politicians take loans from banks or seek sponsorship from the rich. How would they pay back these loans.

My personal opinion says no. I even doubt that the elected president is really purely from the people's choice not from the number of people whose votes have been bought with money that is part of the black campaign action. Then how can a leader who is elected by means of corruption stop corruption?

In Africa, Nigeria in particular. In 20th century, Nigerians police normally pursued (Go after) arms robbers, but now in this 21st century they are not pursueing arms robbers again. Why? Because those policemen who pursued these arms robbers would later turned to arms robbers.

Every disease has a cure except for old age and death, of course, if they change the whole system and appoint the right person as a leader, they can turn the table and fix their country at a slow pace if they were the worst country ever. In any society in which corruption have eaten deep into the fabrics of such society, corruption becomes a normal to all. And as such a very few whom wake up to fight it will be viewed as aliens and will definitely be alienated by the very system. Corruption can't be ordinarily quelled within a moment or epoch, and can't realistically be ending from up down but rather down to up. What do I mean by down to up? If in our individual homes as a society we try to create a paradigm shift within our young as they grow, putting it to them only a daily (as we do teach them  ABCD from cradle) the ills and dangers that accompany a corrupt society. The mindset we create in the young generation as they grow will go a long way yo ending or reducing corruption in any society instead of try to end corruption from the elderly.

Not easy but not impossible. And if there are really no alternatives that's sort of a pointless question. Question is, how much power will people want to give for fighting corruption?

People often hate first world money tracking and surveillance but that hardcore surveillance is pretty much the price if we want to prevent corruption.

Corruption cases are always found in developing countries, my country is no exception.

I agree with your last quote, this is what happens in my country. In my country every candidate cannot run individually for president. There are several regulations that regulate that every citizen must be obliged to join a political party. Yes, if we are part of a political party, of course we will follow the directions of the party leader. And even if he becomes president, he is not free to make decisions about members committing corruption because there are relatives in it. Even though there are examples from other countries where the death penalty is discovered, in my country it is not implemented and translated into Human Rights. To end corruption is not something a single individual can just decide that it is enough and then corruption will just come to an end. Because just moral guidelines based on belief aren't enough to build a society. Religious values aren't optimal for removing corruption, in fact quite the opposite. Churches are part of scandals all the time. And even if there would be good moral teachings some people would follow, forgiveness loophole gives you an excuse to do anything in the end.
Rules and regulations forced by law and transparency are way more effective. But that doesn't suite everyone as that more accountability also means more surveillance and less privacy.

We could argue on the difference between the centralization of transparency between a government and a church, by the way. In our society where the information and the transparency is supposed to be handled by a government we are supposed to trust is not that different from the trust people may have on religious authorities for them to guide the life of those who attend to pray.

Government is the first culprit of corruption. When we say government, it means those persons at the corridors of power, those that have been elected or selected in the higher leadership echelon of the country. They are given the responsibility to run the affairs of the country and if they fail to do this it means they have corrupted the system.

One way to ensure that the country is not corrupt is to follow the law but those in government don't apply the law on themselves, family or cronies and that makes impunity to take over the country. You're right about that, friend. because some people find it difficult to get out of what is called corruption. But in my opinion that doesn't mean that people like that can't get out of that dark path and choose a new, better path. Because humans have habits that change, so it is certain that their corrupt habits can definitely be changed. I think it's not easy to get rid of corruption in the government but I think our previous president did it, he didn't get rid of everything but he reduced corruption and I think more than 50% was stopped. Right now I don't know if our president is still doing the same thing, removing corruption from the government or if he is one too, I don't know. I do believe that humans have a percentage of unbuilt greed I them that leads corruption, the examples you gave above are all as a result of greed driving individuals. If not greed there is no way a doctor will have to take bribe before attending to a patience. I specifically recall the case of a politician who has alledgely bribed by Qatar, so she talked as possively as possible about that country in the European parliament, and did favors in order for the Qatar football world cup to take place without problems coming from the European Union, regarding the human rights problems and the work conditions of those who built the stadiums.

Still, the European Union took a step ahead and arrested that politician, that is the important part within the fight against corruption: to hold those ones guilty into account. So others won't dare to try to do the same in the future.

Yes it's not as easy as it looks or how people pretend it to be, Corruption is everywhere be it democracy or dictatorship/military rule because corruption is not something limited to certain group or party it's everywhere and it's in our mindset. I have a slightly different take on corruption and how it can be eradicated. Im not sure what country this is but everything has to be in sync. If the president is a good man and really wishes to make an impact, the people under him can still hinder a lot of things through corruption. For instance, for countries that are under development, if the president decides to build a new hospital and gives the money to whoever is supposed to be in charge, the corruption from their end may end up resulting in a substandard hospital or an unfinished project. Today i saw on the internet where Cameroonians are busy heaping insults on Nigerian president, due to their colossal 2 nill loss to the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the round of 16 on AFCON. At this point i shared tears when Cameroonians reminded us of how bad our economy has become. They make a chibe at us with Dollar exchange of 1 dollar = 1400 Naira.

If a president that doesn't support corruption finds a cabinet member who is corrupt and would spoil his plans for the people then the easiest thing to do is to relieve the corrupt member from his team because afterall it is the president that will be answerable to the people if the administration doesn't deliver to the people. It is easier to relieve a member of his cabinet position if the person was solely appointed by the president or he can go through same process of appointment to relieve such person from the position. Corruption can be suppressed from a country if the government wants to, but corruption cannot be suppressed from that country if the government tries to corrupt itself. The government is not trying any way to fight corruption in my country, the government is trying more to take corruption out of my country. As my country has now become a one government dictatorship, more and more corruption has started. If there is no dictatorship in the country then there will be less corruption in that country. All the people who are in the government party from my country are corrupting so much that they are building luxury houses in other states by corruption. The goal of corruption is to gain desired result or benefit with the help of funds or other benefits. Corruption is what puts one persons wish over others. If you want to fight corruption, doesnt this mean that you have something that does not suit you (but maybe suits for others), and you want to put your interests above others? Can it understood as fighting corruption with corruption? I think corruption is impossible to beat, because when searching for alternative solution, people plant another seed of corruption.

I understand you try to say without being mindedly corrupted you can't figure what corruption is about and you still can't fight it unless you also have to imply with your own corrupted strategies before you can conquer corruption.
