Last time, I gifted my sister some ETH to hold on her Trust Wallet and she plans to keep it for a long time due to her belief that it can go even higher.

Her wedding day was supposed to happen in the final days of December, but it was ruined because of the super typhoon, so it was moved this month. I’m so happy that she can finally walk down the aisle after a successful 10+ year relationship with her fiancee. The wedding is in a beach setting, far away from my city.

Not only I may surprise gift her some BTC, but I’m also planning to give her my unused SecuX V20 hardware wallet (since I only bought it at a special discount in exchange for a non-biased video demo). So I’ll just reset my settings there so that she can create a new account and I’ll teach her step by step since she has no experience yet in using hardware wallets (but already has experience in Trust Wallet and other non-custodial wallets).

After all, I already have Ledger Nano S and SafePal S1. I already educated her the basics about private keys, seed phrases, etc.

I see that your attitude is very good and I want to add that it is very good that you also talk about the disadvantages of bitcoin and how to buy bitcoin because what I see is that people do not encourage others to buy bitoin using fiat

I don't know, while its a good thing that people are spreading the Bitcoin love and therefore, marketing Bitcoin to the crowds to increase the Bitcoin adoption rate, I still see giving money as a gift, especially on important occassions as a bit impersonal. If I were you, I would probably give a more physical gift, something she can use day to day instead of just leaving it as an investment for the longer term...

But maybe I am wrong... Thats just me.

Even though you are considering BTC as a gift, you still need to save a backup copy of the seed phrase without telling them that you have extra copy of it while teaching them the ins and out of bitcoin in general. Becase at some point, people aren't ready enough to appreciate and handle intangible things like crypto (BTC)

Not only that, teach her a good practice in terms of improving her InfoSec to avoid any issues with compromised device, phishing etc..You don't want to feel like shit when your gift turned into a source of regret, no?

Anyhow, wishing your sister a happy marriage!  Smiley

I wonder why you started with Ethereum and are now moving to Bitcoin (why Bitcoin wasn't the first one), but, in any case, I think it's a lovely gift. If she kept the ETH and believes it can grow, it means she's at least open to cryptos and somewhat positive about their future, so gifting Bitcoin seems like a good choice to me. The only thing I wanted to add is that if it's a wedding gift, it probably should be for both of them, not just your sister...? People have different financial arrangements when they're married, but wedding gifts are usually for both, no? If you only focus on her, her husband might feel left out.

Can you say what time (I mean year and month) did you give ETH to your sister? I want to know if she is in profit or is still in loss

I gave her $100 worth of ETH sometime last year when the price is between $2k to $2.1k. She’s still in profit yes! Despite that ETH reached $4.5k back then, she refused to sell coz’ she had a strong belief on ETH lol.

Anyhow, wishing your sister a happy marriage!  Smiley

Thank you very much (and also to your suggestion)!

Since she trusted and loved me as her brother (despite that I did say that I don’t want to save her phrases because I don’t want to be suspected for stealing or doing unauthorized transactions), she has no problem with me saving it for her as a backup just in case. She already saved the seed phrases for each non-custodial wallet in her “secret” notebook.

I wonder why you started with Ethereum and are now moving to Bitcoin (why Bitcoin wasn't the first one), but, in any case, I think it's a lovely gift. For her soon-to-be husband, he’s not yet a fan of cryptos despite that he’s also introduced into it. He doesn’t have the same “investing” mindset as my sister is. I can’t force him, but maybe one day he’ll send me a message about it hehe.

That's not actually bad, and you already have all the criterias for her to qualify to own a cryptocurrency so it's only a matter of amount and time that you're going to give that bitcoin, just make sure that you tell her not to ever forget or have a paper for her to write the important credentials for accessing her wallet, she's going to get busy so I am definitely going to assume she might not prioritize cryptocurrencies in her early years as a wife.

Step 1: Taught her how to use a non-custodial mobile wallet
Step 2: Teaching her how to use a more secure wallet (hardware)

^ Pretty good approach I guess. I hope she will remember the lesson of using those two wallets and not just the crypto inside them Grin

Do you plan to give it to her on the day of the wedding? Maybe consider giving it later because I'm sure she'll get a lot of gifts and the HW could be misplaced.

Congratulations and Happy Marriage to your sister. Hope she will find it very interesting and will be part of the community for forever period to come. I really appreciate your gesture of spreading word about Bitcoin or Crypto through such social gathering.

I am imagining that, when you will give this to her she will definitely benefit but also all the people attending the Marriage will see, listen and remember that you were the one with unique gift and it was all about crypto currency’s.

They might just be asking you more about it and who knows turn into crypto enthusiasts.

Go for it if she's actually interested in cryptocurrencies to start with. IF.

On the other hand, if she ain't really that interested — there are lots of times for you to give her bitcoin, but a wedding probably might not be the best time. Give her something she and her husband can actually use for their new family instead.

Your sister is a lucky girl to have a brother like you. I was trying to do the same but my sister was ignoring to get the knowledge on crypto. On the other hand i have started to teach it to my wife. Luckily she has got enough knoweldge now, after starting my lesson and she is now well educated  to use all the platform and make transaction. Your sister are really gettimg a huge surprise from you soon and surely she will be happy on that. I am trying to do the same on any special upcoming day to give a surprise to my wife .Best whishes for you and your sister.

Bitcoin as a gift makes some sense if we give it to a person who knows something about it, or can understand that it has some value. Regardless of the fact that this is a person who has some prior knowledge and obviously understands the basic concepts, I could agree with @mk4 that for the wedding you might be able to choose a more appropriate gift. Maybe BTC as a gift could come in combination with some other gift, as an accessory, and not as the main gift?

However, it is your decision, and do not hesitate to do it if you want Wink

Don't forget to show her DONT MARRY YOUR ALTCOIN BAGS topic, a post on reddit "My Wife is leaving because bitcoin., teach her that "money loves silence".

May I ask you - what do say "surprise her", "she can create", "teach her" and etc. What about her future husband? Arent you are going to make this gift for both of them? Or just for her? Give her half of the private key, and her husband the other half. Name them wallet address, so that they both know the balance on it, but let them use it only when they are united or together. If they get divorced or cant come to an agreement in something, no one can own that BTC. That would be fair I think.

That's so nice of you to give such a valuable gift to your sister. You should have posted the info on how much and at what price did you gave it to her.
It would have motivated others to try to do the same for their loved ones. May be this would increase the amount of crypto holders in the crypto community.
Also, how about splitting the money into 2-3 coins and not just bitcoin. May be this would give her a diversified set of coins.

First I want to congratulate you on your marriage and I hope the event can run smoothly in the future, what you do may be almost the same as what some people did before who gave bitcoin to their brothers or sister , but what interests me in your case is when you want to surprise your wife with a few bitcoins, some of the words here indicate that if it means you have a lot of bitcoins right now, I think you should think twice before giving bitcoins to your future wife, because in some cases there are actually many marriages that fail and in eventually your wife will take the bitcoin away, I think it's better to make the bitcoin a shared asset so that you still have full rights and control over the bitcoins you own than you give for her.

What you gift can definitely benefit the bride and groom. Regardless of how you put the Bitcoin in your wallet, you should always make sure they are safe and inaccessible to other than your sister. I hope your sister's wedding goes smoothly. There are a lot of wedding gifts out there like luxury cars and everything that glitters. But you choose Bitcoin it has become an extraordinary choice.

I found it nice that you introduced your sis to cryptocurrencies by offering some.

About the wedding , I wonder how you came across this idea btw !
I don't think cryptocurrencies can be considered as a gift in weddings. Why you don't buy something precious for her and her husband for the new family life?
Congratulations for your Sister for the wedding. I wish i can marry too  Tongue

I guess you might need to read my thread all over again completely regarding her knowledge on non-custodial wallets. But for Step 2, yes I will guide her.

Go for it if she's actually interested in cryptocurrencies to start with. IF.

On the other hand, if she ain't really that interested — there are lots of times for you to give her bitcoin, but a wedding probably might not be the best time. Give her something she and her husband can actually use for their new family instead.

It's already given that she's interested, coz' I know my sister very well. Like that she's holding ETH right now, expect the same thing in BTC. She even have NFT collectibles from NBA Top Shot lol. I know my sister very well who is an opportunist, willing to learn and venture into new stuff and a business-minded person. But her soon-to-be husband and my upcoming brother-in-law, isn't having the same mindset and perspective as my sister is.

First I want to congratulate you on your marriage

My sister's, not mine lol.

Nope I've already knew her and she likes something unique and different, especially that she's so positive into cryptocurrencies.

It's good to hear that your sister has a very open mind when it comes to cryptocurrency. Since, you already know your sister, then I guess go for it and give your sister bitcoin as a gift on her wedding. Also, I suggest that for you to give her an NFT as a gift such as a picture of her and her husband to be or maybe something that she likes. If possible since her partner doesn't have the same mindset as her, then try to give them a physical gift that then can both use.
Anyways, Congratulations on your Sister's Wedding.

So are saying that bitcoin is not valuable and precious? We can not regret the price of bitcoin and it is so costly. Bitcoin as a gift is really a good choice and it can give good result in their future life. Small amount of bitcoin can change anyone's life.
