I'm still trying to learn more but I will like to keep sharing what I know, newbies if FED can gain access to billions of assets through hacking cloud storage why do you still believe that storing your keys and phrases in email account and cloud storage is safe? Read the article below

https[Suspicious link removed]cuted-the-largest-financial-seizure-in-history-for-3-6-billion-in-btc-6533dc00244

If you are planning to do this please erase this idea from your mind and if you already did please get rid of your keys from online, private keys and recovery seeds are safer offline than online, if you can afford to invest 200$ on ward on BTC you can afford a ledger hardware wallet or use the old skool style, carving your seed on steel.

You are right that it is not a good idea at all, I remember on another forum a person saying that he had his bitcoins stolen even though he had them in a hardware wallet. After questions and answers between forumers he admitted that he had saved a photo of his seeds online.

I hope people who are not clear about this will read your post. Most of us are clear on this, but what seems to me is that people who rely on saving their seeds online will come to these types of threads after having their money stolen.

There is every tendency that you can be hacked why storing your keys online. However you have power controlling you  keys but you must be in charge by taking care of their security.

Every crypto wallet have one thing in common (private key) it doesn't matter if you are using hardware wallet or mobile wallet or even paper wallet your duty is to keep your keys safe or you will lose your fund, hardware wallet isn't some kind of hack proof or stealing proof, keep your private keys safe.

Some people will understand and some will not comprehend you because they have been using online storage since the existence of using wallet private key's.

It's encouraging to put all your ledger pin offline because of hackers, it's easier and possible for someone to penetrate into your online documents to grab your secret documents, op i agree with your suggestion, it's few who will antagonist your ideology, but it's very clear to ensure your private key's are store and kept offline for safer side of exposure or review.

Well, you are right it should not storing online.
That is why hardware wallets or any open-source wallets are advised to take down on a sheet of paper upon storing your private keys and some others' advice to engrave it on metal to avoid possible destruction physically. Storing our private offline is very important to avoid possible leaks that lead to hacking. But did you know even if that you stored in offline it is possible to be hacked if you are careless keeping of this --it should us, our responsibility to keep our private key safe.

1. They always need internet connection.
2. You have to keep your private key safe yourself.

Isn't it the same thing with other crypto wallets except from those centralised wallet that gives user no access to their keys?.
Hardware wallets do not need an internet connection to operate, that is the whole point of hardware wallets: unlike any other desktop, web-based, or mobile wallets they function in offline environments. Private keys that are sitting inside hardware never touch the Internet and are only used to sign messages created with corresponding public keys. More advanced wallets don't even need to be physically connected to your PC in order to sign transactions: the information about transactions can be sent to them via different means such as SD-cards, NFC, QR-codes, Bluetooth, etc. Hardware wallets allow you to interact with unsigned transactions in the most secure way possible. That doesn't mean, however, that you shouldn't create several backups of your seed and keep it securely: the seed is essential information to recreate your private keys and addresses.

Why do you think users actually do that? @Save there private keys or seed phrases in cloud storage, could it be ignorance or its just a lack of regard for security and following up on instructions.

There are reasons why, a wallet compulsorily asks that you write them phrases down and go the length to verify it and give a strict warning as to how private it should be and also, secretly guided. In fact, no one is suppose to know you have a key that is that important and can be used in all round recovery/reset of a wallet.

The single moment you put it out online, you've violated everything privacy about it and there is nothing safe on that wallet no more. Good enough you can always open a new one and so, its best you take precaution when necessary and find means to keeping your wallet private and safe.

Honestly, except they want to form woke and trendy. Otherwise, I don't see any need why those who do it do it. Your secrets (in general) are better offline than online. With online, you don't know on his lap they can fall. Get a piece of paper and write the seedphrases/recovery seeds or whatever that hold access to your wallet. As easy as that looks, it will save the day for you.

Just be careful, some people intentionally upload their recover seed online for greedy people to find, they will think they hit a gold mine but it was intentional, you import such recovery seed and try to move out tokens you will get ruined in the process... Smart ones know what I'm talking about.

Just remember that anything you use in the internet that was made by someone wouldn't make you fully secured even if such 2fa security exists. I wouldn't trust any centralized services in the internet with my files or even my critical documents.
I upload some "not that important" of a files to Google Drive, but other information that I really am careful about such as my private keys are all personally written in a document. I am even thinking about storing it in a small safe box, if I have the time.

Maybe i am not smart enough as i do not know what you are talking about, why will somebody upload their seed phrase online for other people to see and try to import, if there is funds in it how can it not be stolen and how can someone get ruined trying to import funds through a seed phrase they saw online.

Yet, it was very common to us that we don't care much about how to keep our seeds phrases and passwords until the time that we experience getting hacked and realizing our wrong practice. Now as we get an idea of how to keep our funds safe we should have to follow this before unwanted trespasses will happen. As we are investing and storing coins in our wallets the more we should prioritize this thing or else, we are giving the way these hackers will control our wallets.

Glad to see another crypto user decided to store their seed phrase, private keys offline rather than online. If you ever have some wallet credentials stored online then getting rid of it should be the first choice and never use the same wallet that you previously stored online as it may be compromised already or stolen already. The second thing to do is creating a new wallet which you will now use to whatever transactions you want.

It should be a practice to safely remove any private key we have stored online or planning to store a private keys online. Hackers are everywhere and they are getting smart just like how scammers do their tricks. If someone doesn't understand how important the private key is then they must be willing to get hacked instead.

It did happen already to others so what makes you think it won't happen to you? I'm sure they will most likely to see this thread once they were a victim of hacking.

Honestly, when I was totally noob in this space. I have done that for several months until someone has said the same thing as yours.

What I did was, I made a backup quickly offline and wrote it and then deleted what I have written on my email. Well, it is good to remember those days when I have started and happy to have these people earlier than us that have said the same thing of doing what's better for the security of our bitcoin.

Now, I have it stored on a hardware wallet while keep my seed privately offline.

Just be careful, some people intentionally upload their recover seed online for greedy people to find, they will think they hit a gold mine but it was intentional, you import such recovery seed and try to move out tokens you will get ruined in the process... Smart ones know what I'm talking about.
Maybe i am not smart enough as i do not know what you are talking about, why will somebody upload their seed phrase online for other people to see and try to import, if there is funds in it how can it not be stolen and how can someone get ruined trying to import funds through a seed phrase they saw online.
Scammers do this intentionally, a greedy newbie who come across a recovery seed will surely want to check what's inside the wallet and when they see valuable tokens they will want to sell them but once the newbie deposit ETH on the address to move the tokens the ETH will automatically be sent out to another address that belongs to the scammer.

What I did was, I made a backup quickly offline and wrote it and then deleted what I have written on my email.
The chance that the private key you were storing on email has been compromised is very high. You should have moved the coins from the compromised wallet to a completely different wallet with a different set of private keys. Only when you make sure that the keys you generated have never touched the online environment can you create an offline backup of them and assume they are relatively safe to store for the long term. This also applies to lost backups... If you made several backups of your seed and now can't find at least one of them, you should consider your security compromised, and you should immediately move all your coins to another wallet. If you lose your hardware, your system is compromised no matter how strong your passphrase or PIN is. Never rely on passwords that protect your backups or hardware wallets you lost access to because you never know whether or not it was hacked.

Your keys are safer offline as you rightly said at op. This song needs to keep going round as a reminder because many still don't see the possibility of cloud hackers penetrating their device from a remote server. Some feel with a well guarded password on their mobile or desktop they are covered. But the reality is the cloud is too risky malicious softwares are been developed daily that can access any device from a remote area. Keeping this keys offline is just the best preventive measures
