Commentary is underated in sports and commentators are not giving enough recognition for the role they play in sports.

I had this recent experience where I streamed live a recent premier league game and it had no audio, although it was expected to be an exciting game, I did not enjoy the game, not until the audio came up and i could now hear the commentary.

Commentators add colour and enhance our viewing experience, they are well informed about the sport and the teams in contest, and give real time updates on a live game that can even make someone new to a sport pick interest. Without commentary and sports commentators, some sporting games will be entirely very unexciting and eventually boring to watch.

Can you enjoy your sports viewing experience without commentary and  commentators?

Watching football without commentators is like when we watch the GP without the sound of motorbikes and obviously it's quite boring, in football matches, commentators are attraction for us in watching football matches, to be honest, I am often surprised when almost fell asleep while watching streaming football matches on mobile or laptop because of the commentators scream when there was a goal or almost scored a goal and it allowed me to continue watching the game until the end  .

It really depends on what type of sport you are referring into.

This would be very boring if it's a contact sport like basketball, boxing, volleyball, or soccer. Commentators on those games make the match more enjoyable. They can make it more entertaining that we get hyped to it and feel like we are watching the game live.

That also depends in which environment you're watching the sports into.
For example, when you are watching a game where you placed your bet and you wanted to watch so badly but you're in the office. It would be necessary to turn off the volume of your phone or laptop to watch the game. I've experienced it many times especially during the NBA playoffs. I'd still enjoyed watching without commentators as the volume is totally turned off, though having it in the background is perfect.

Three are some sports that’s I can only watch when I’m not listening to the commentators. For example I get pretty annoyed by golf commentators. I love playing golf but can’t stand watching it. However when I do watch I (almost only because I’ve got a bet on the match) watch it with the volume off as I just find them annoying and they make me want to sleep. Just me though.

I also prefer to watch soccer with commentators because during the game they provide a lot of interesting information about players and teams. I think that commentators make watching soccer more harmonious.

I personally do not notice that commentators are underestimated, because commentators are recognized on the street, they are invited to give voice to sports games and applications.

It's the same with football commentators. Most of them are in this line of work for life and people get used to hearing their voices. I have my personal favourite football commentator who's known of doing it all the way in the 80s and 90s and he's still great at it.

That part where commentators are helping viewers who doesn't know the game or only have little knowledge about the game to be enlightened, each word that coming out from every commentators gives ideas to listeners and viewers, though there are games that might be appreciated without any interventions with those commentators, games that you will be enjoyed without hearing anything or any noise from anyone who providing their opinions about the games.

More on how you appreciate those people who wanted to add some spice to the game while you are watching. If you do appreciate them, then you will enjoy more and learn more from their shared opinions.

sometimes, Joe Rogan's facial reaction whenever theres a KO is more entertaining to watch than the slomo. Joe earns more on his podcast i believe than being a commentator. he is just doing it for the love of the sport.

Sure, the attention will be more on the players or matches that the commentator is commenting on because the entire display will only focus on the match and also the players but their every word cannot be underestimated especially if he is an accomplished commentator because every comment will be very relevant to the match.

Depends on the commentator because there are also bad commentators that only says none sense words. It's unappealing tho. I hope they will be replaced next time by a good commentator which has a long years of experience on this field. Not only that they can make the game more fun to watch but they can also provide certain information which are not yet known by the viewers. You would really be that versatile on a certain condition which would leave you no choice but to watch the game without commentators which it would turn out to be fine by you as long you do able to see the game live and there are people who doesnt really like to see replays and thats why you would watch as much as possible even with having volume turned off.Actually it do really misses out the entire entertainment if you cant really hear off those commentators on background because it do really adds up on the thrill and excitement whenever you do make out some watching a particular game.
They are relevant most of the time but conditions of each people is on where changes do happen on how games would be watched.

Not a good thing to consider if you do base up on commentators views on the completed half and it is unlikely that they would really be giving off those
words considering that it would really be turning out to be a biased commentating which for sure they are trying to avoid as much as they could when it comes

Yes, they talk too much and also shout during the game. It's their job to provide entertainment to the audience and they get paid to do it. But the commentator should also be able to act not to overreact to a match because there are spectators who don't really like watching it. But that's the world of commentators and maybe they are also competing with other commentators to get the title of the top commentator in a match. If a commentator goes to a match show outside of their country, they may be hired by a television show to help out.

You are right on that though but I still think some don't really make money as they are supposed to, this reminds me of Peter Drury, I mean what is Premier League without his voice, you don't enjoy the matches without him spicing up the game, he knows how to describe and play with words when the match is getting tough and intense, unfortunately, he left. If probably he is earning enough, he wouldn't have left for NBC sports because I know that Football should have been paying more than that where he is but who knows the offer he got was better than what he was been tip been a commentator in Premier and Champions League.

The commentator and commentaries play an important role in the sports they are in Because I agree with what you said that without this dual there is no life watching sports in reality. And it comes alive because of bringing in commentators, where the viewers in turn go along with what a commentator is saying too. Apparently, the commentators also bring the movement and enthusiasm of the viewers if they are not lively and their commentaries are lifeless, the audience watching sports is certainly lifeless.

That's why I can only enjoy watching sports if the role of a commentator can be played correctly and properly in the comments to be made.

When op said about commentators being underrated,  I believe I know what he means. It is not only from the pay side but the recognition. Using myself for example, I know the names of almost all the footballers and the coaches of different clubs, I also know the names of the analysts but I hardly know the names of the commentators and neither will I recognise any if I meet them. I think that is the angle the writer is coming from.

I am pretty sure that sports without commentators feels like food without salt. It adds up so much that it is undeniable. I personally love to have someone narrate my life even. Like talking about me/talking with me. That's why I used inner voice many times.
Anyways commentators in sports are doing show business more than anything and its cool. Imagine a casino where commentator talks to people or announces their wins. Doesn't it sound very funny?

I think this topic is directly related to gambling. Personally, from my own experience, I will say that when I watch a game and an ordinary commentator comments on it, and as often there is an invited athlete, then from this guest I receive a lot of important information that helps in betting. Very often, the assessment of the athlete and the commentator do not match, because the athlete understands the game better and based on his opinion, I can better understand the chances of the teams, which means I can make more correct bets.

Chess does have commentators, but those cannot be heard by the players themselves. Commentators help bridge the gap between the normal viewer with limited knowledge of the game and what's really happening on the game. Also, way before these games are televised or relayed through video feed, radio commentators are the ones bringing in color and updates to those at home. They played a big role in the development of sports viewership and they are here to stay.

Commentators are one of the most important parts of a game. Nowadays a game is incomplete without a commentator. The commentators are quite entertaining during the game. Sometimes retired players are the commentators and they give interesting information about the game.
