I am afraid that if you are from the future it means that you already know what will happen,even the blocks number mined.I think this is no different than most hash lotteries that I have seen here and Freebitco.in uses such case when choosing their lottery weekly winners and if I am not mistaken even in the big event of the Lambo win.

Being from the future entitles you to win,especially in such lotteries as you know the hash that won for example the previous day,you come back in time and choose exactly that.Nothing special for me about such lotteries and I never play them.

Not a lot right, also the amount is not something that is too much around 7$ in LTC therefore people might participate but again when they are participating the probability would not really be on your side, I personally stay away from the lottery even if it's fair and as you say innovative and in general affordable because I do not trust on my luck at all. You need to explain the concept better or create a functioning service which proves how fair, reliable and secure it is. Well thats the kind of thing science is trying to figure out. It might be true if the theory of quantum retrocausality pans out. There already is a physics experiment which supports it.

But, unfortunately, there is a flaw in it (at least regarding your claim that even someone coming from the future, the probability will not change!) : you said that if you know the block hash (coming from the future) which will determine the winner, you can't use this information to win the lottery (cheat the system).. this is not correct simply because a user can create as many transactions offline as he wants then broadcast only the winning one (containing the last three characters of the block hash which he already knows).

I think that your theory would be worth discussing in either a maths forum or in a science-fiction one more likely. But, let's say that we accept the premise of knowing the future... then there is nothing preventing you from knowing all the details of future transaction and profiting from it, but, to be honest, if you already know the future there are much more interesting things to do than to figure out hashes.

I will say a partial yes to this, but not on generally, on some type of games, time travel is possible in some way which I would explain below.


In my country, there's this local lottery game we play, the game is available to some part of Africa, this game has the same mechanics as lotto, it deals with predicting/choosing five numbers from 1 to 99, out of the five numbers chosen, if a minimum of two numbers among the five numbers you choose happens to be among the five numbers that came out for that day, you win, so the more the numbers you choose is among the five numbers for the day, the higher your winning amount.
For example, we have 1 to 99, let's say we choose 23, 5, 17, 90, 67, and at the end of the day, the winning number is 89, 45, 23, 92, 17, it means we won with just 23, 17.

Now, here is where the time travel thing comes in, this numbers are always the same for every country participating in the game, but the numbers are not released the same time in this different countries, for example, the numbers are first released in Ghana, and sometimes, it will take over 30 minutes before the same number get released in my country, so in a situation like this, those who have friends in Ghana and their friends play the game, they will contact their friend and ask for the number on board, if the friend is kind enough to give it, then they just hurriedly go and play it before the game closes, and wait for the winning number to hit my country.... Probability might not change when you are from the future, but you know already the outcomes from all the big sport events. Why not just go for a few games where you know what is going to happen. It seems much more profitable to use your knowledge of the future than try to win at a casino game. There are so many possibilities if you would know how the world looks like in next month or next year. For example, if you know the exact winning score of the Champions League finale tomorrow, you could just bet all your money on that game. Predicting games with the winnings score already gives a nice multipler. And if you know the outcome with 100% certainity you can also go and borrow all the money you can get from friends and family, max out your credit cards and if maybe even get a mortgage on your own house. All it takes would be one game with some time to prepare and we would be rich. And who will handle the prize pool? You? Hell no! Why not just play a common lottery from the existing gambling platforms? The outcome remains the same but has more trustable risk. Also, AFAIK there was a game back then on games and rounds where you put at least the last or first ( I can't really remember ) digit / character of a hash then you'll win a prize, free from krogmanhattan if I'm not wrong. Yes, the idea is indeed good, but such idea is non sense when executed improperly. Better have your own script/program or an app that focuses on that, get a license, then be a Lotto-themed platform.

Yep.. But don't let my comment discourage you. There are many ways to fix this and improve the idea.
For example, instead of the ltc transaction hash you can use the hash of the block in which the transaction is included. This way you ensure the ticket number is completely random. You can also combine the block hash with the transaction hash to ensure each player gets a unique ticket number (in case more than one transaction are included in the same block).
