I got a reply message from @lovesmayfamilis a few hours ago. The message contains several links to other user profile, wallet explorers, and spreadsheet as well. But I saw something I've never seen before right above the message body, look at this image. It's like an automated warning from a forum, isn't it?

Besides that I also want to ask @lovesmayfamilis, did you receive a message like this when you got a PM from me?

Yes, I also received the same warning yesterday. But if it wasn't you, I would have simply deleted this post. But I still looked at your letter, and I think, from numerous links that led to extraneous resources, we both received such a warning.

I think it's been around for a few years now and I assume it's used where suspicious link removed might've been before (for more established users - but this is just my guess).

Suspicious link removed just taints any links that aren't well recognised or thing known to be bad.

It's funny in a really sad sort of way that a forum that does nothing about scammers and members advertising scams would give that kind of warning.  It just seems like such a....small thing to do, almost like a obviously futile and hypocritical gesture, all things considered.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen that before, and I get quite a few PMs.  Are the mods making a judgement call on what constitutes a phishing PM?

I never experienced this warning before but I think it's been here since 2018 or around 2017 based on this thread here
Maybe one of the links you received is already reported to moderator as a phishing link.

Would you mind posting the links here so that we can check if the link is phishing or not or if it's just a false positive?

This seems to me like an automated process where a link could be flagged as suspicious if it's hyperlinked or part of an image, I do not think it's a case of mods making a judgement call on what constitutes phishing as that would go against the forun policy of not moderating scams.

This would definitely cause a lot of newer accounts to have unread PMs as many users here, would avoid messages with such warning from a profile they are not acquainted with.

I also haven't gotten such a warning so far, it makes me wonder if forums start implementing a similar warning on posts (not PMs) if indeed the link was reported as phishing before?

I hope the OP can also tell us what the message is so we can verify if it really is phishing or maybe it isn't.

This would definitely cause a lot of newer accounts to have unread PMs as many users here, would avoid messages with such warning from a profile they are not acquainted with.
I won't risk opening any link if I get such a warning, maybe I'll delete it or report it to the mod.

Actually there are more pm related warning there not just on the op. I see some thread that removes a link and change to -suspicious link remove-, maybe a list of these websites collected and listed for such purpose and show that notice if used in pm.

If we could automatically detect phishing with 100% accuracy, we'd just prevent the PM from being sent. These warnings can appear on totally legit PMs; they just mean that you should be extra careful. Also, note that often accounts are hacked and used to send phishing PMs, so don't rely on the fact that the sender is trustworthy.

According to theymos, mods don't have access to our PMs unless you use the Report to moderator function.

Here is the message and the link. I changed the username I suspect because I can't draw any conclusions yet.

Hey lovesmayfamilis, do you think XXX& XXX is an alt that cheats many campaigns?

I found something here, but still hesitate to draw conclusions. I hope you can help to explain it to me.

I have full evidence to link the two with bitcoin transactions in case. Both accounts join the same bounty campaign [Monopoly Millonaire] and I believe they both get paid in bitcoin from Mason Five campaign before being pooled in one address: bc1qs3t5lcnx4qgw0n72ta6thnzwqtwws4468hg835

Perhaps you wanted to suggest what warnings might be, but forgot to write about it? But the OP didn't ask about that. Smiley

It's probably some list of warnings he's known all along either in PM or while surfing the forum. But of course it's a different case which may not be constructive to the OP's question without any explanation from him.

Of course we must remain vigilant against any suspicious attempts at PM, this requires us to be extra careful before opening any link. So it's clear that not all pm containing such warnings are phishing, but must be verified by the recipient of the pm if they really want to open the link. But of course there is a security issue if we receive the warning in PM so it will most likely ignore it if we can't verify that the site is really genuine.

Well theymos just explained why some legit PMs have warnings. This is my opinion why some PMs have warnings just like when you received a PM from newbie account. I think that the forum detected the links that is sent through PM as a suspicious link that it could be a scam site, a phishing site even though you know it yourself that it is not a suspicious link. Theymos did say that it means we should be careful and I think it is a warning/reminder for the forum user to be very careful.

Wouldn't call it feature, have seen newbie messages being flagged as suspicious, this is similar. Regarding this warning being shown to reputed accounts, account may change hands, people tend to be loose with high rank accounts, so this warning is just as important with those accounts.

Alright everyone, now I know that this phishing warning in PM seems to have been around for some time and this is no longer the first one a forum member has received. So I have no better reason to keep the thread open, I can close it now.

As theymos says, it's the best way to practice and it's true that we should stay vigilant even if it comes from established users though. We really need to be extra careful about that.
