What Type of Gambler Am I?

Well I don't really know the type of gambler that I am but I think I am a casual gambler. I gamble anytime that I like with looking at many factor of whether I have to win by all means. I don't take gambling as too serious because I have other means in which I make money. Gambling is not meant to be taken too seriously because we can lose money anything if we are too greedy or too money conscious. Gambling is supposed to be taken light and not too serious just like as many of us used to see it. Lucky comes to us anything so winning a bet is not always certain.

Professional.
Semi-professional.

So, using the OP's Seven Types of Gamblers, sometimes you are a Professional Gambler, and other times you are a Casual Social Gambler. But, if seriously, I would combine 2 types from the list, "Casual Social Gamblers" and "Relief and Escape Gamblers" because it's always both, for me, at least, "relieving stress" and "managing causes of stress".

But, if seriously, I would combine 2 types from the list, "Casual Social Gamblers" and "Relief and Escape Gamblers" because it's always both, for me, at least, "relieving stress" and "managing causes of stress".

I would not confuse these two categories - there is too much negativity in the second (in the definition), they are rather close to drug addicts.

It is much better to regret it after spending a huge amount of money on gambling than not noticing it and wakeup as a gambling addict.  It is a good thing to check our balance and reflect after a session of gambling.  At least we can think about how things go, if there is a regret of using too many funds then possibly the guy can adjust his fund on his next session.  But of course, I don't want anyone here to lose a huge amount of money and regret it after.   So I can only say to allocate a bankroll that will not affect our daily budgets and monthly bills.

Profits!, of course, but when you learn to manage losses, we have an emotional "rakeback" that should not be ignored and always have it there, not only for when you win, you have to leave enough for when you lose, then you can justify the phrase "At least I had fun" but if it is very often you are a 100% fish.

That's the point, the source mentions these types of players, ok!; but it doesn't mention where the study comes from or what percentage of players was studied, where, what country, what games, how old... in short, it's very generic. (imho)

Of course, a gambler should gamble with a certain amount of money. Otherwise, its effect can have a big impact on the life of a gambler. It is always said that you can only play with the amount you can afford to lose. Doing something extra can lead to many obstacles in gambler life. I have heard a similar thought that those players who started gambling with a loss of money were more fortunate than those who started with winnings. Those who lost formed the right idea about it - a dangerous risky entertainment, and those who won on the contrary - a source of easy money. In the long run, it is better to have an objective view of gambling than to win first and then be an addict.

There are really a lot of write ups to give a narrative of some human behaviour out there. 7 categories seems like a lot for me and I think I could just narrow it to 3. Either your an addict or not or you just someone that takes gambling for a career. Perhaps the whole categorisation thing is to aid in therapy but still, its going to go down to almost the same advice on behaviours towards gambling.

This makes a lot of sense if you ask me. I can recall the first time I ever took a bet. Yeah, I placed a few through some friends during my first exposure but the day I placed my first bet myself and the outcome came off as a loss, I withdrew into my shell. I played a lot more after then but my approach towards it changed.

I would like to add one kind of gambler to the list, and that's the Cyber Gamblers.

Cyber gamblers are those who:

1.-Totally understand the provably fair engine of the Casino.
2.-Run simulations to take wise decisions before placing bets.
3.-Uses fast bots to place thousands of bets.

That's the way I have been rolling since last month and my way to see the gambling and probability had a huge change.

I am a Casual Social Gambler, though I understand a lot of persons take gambling as a serious business, but this are people who gamble in millions and maybe billions, for a small fish like me, I cannot afford to see gambling as a serious business, from a gamblers perspective of course for I understand that gambling is indeed a serious business for the casinos and sportsbook owners, which is totally understandable when we consider all that it takes to set a good casino, from the idea to funding to marketing and all sort of miscallicious spending.

Maybe that can change the type of person who plays gambling. From not playing gambling often to playing gambling often and in the end being too often. If they can't overcome this, sooner or later, they will become addicted and once addicted, it will be very difficult to cure it. They really need to get help to heal it but they must have the intention to change. A person who is familiar with gambling can continue to play because the temptation will be great and it requires good self-control to resist the temptation.

Someone can win, lose and lose and stop to gamble. Some people can lose, win and win but followed by losses and continuous gambling. It can be other ways, any way can result to gambling addict. What I have thought of addiction generally is that it is in someone's nature, some people have that nature to become addicted to something. I believe that some people that are exposed to gambling get addicted by their nature, it is not about someone to win first that caused it.

Theoretically, you are no different in your capabilities from those big players - the odds are the same for everyone. Therefore, if they can earn money in gambling with their millions, then you can do the same but with smaller amounts. But in fact, I doubt that they earn from gambling. Perhaps this is just a cover for other murky activities.

addiction in general is a person's nature, maybe what you say is true and I agree but this is debatable according to some experts agree addiction is a disorder of the brain and not a personality problem or a person's nature.  There are also other reasons that habits can have an impact on addiction, especially in this case gambling, apart from genetic factors and the opinions you convey we agree. So returning to the topic of the thread above my conclusion that for the type of gambler, is accumulation in general and not binding for sure.

I always say gambling is not meant for everybody and can never be for everybody, because there are people who have gambled themselves into misery and today still regretting ever making such mistake. for me, i see gambling as a luck which comes as a result of experience and preparation understanding the basic rules of gambling. so this thread is a very wonderful one, categorizing each individual who play the game of gambling, because in the community where i come from, gambling is seen as a sin, which if an elderly man sees you doing such is allowed to either beat you or report you to your parents.

I agree with you about gambling isn't for every but everyone can try if they can find entertainment in gambling.  Those who gambled themselves into misery had lost their self-discipline so definitely they should have not touched gambling if they are unsure to keep their self-control.

You can also add serious social gamblers to that because they aren't in for winning in their gambling session but to cope up with whatever their situation is their mind is preoccupied while playing.

Never knew there are types of gamblers but it interesting to see, for me and according to what you shared I'm a serious social gambler, it matches perfectly with me, I'd love to be a gambler who just gamble for fun without risking big amounts of money that will regret doing later but it's hard, gambling addiction is bad but at least I'm not a compulsive gambler.

I wasn't able to choose from the mentioned type of gamblers. I feel like gambling when I was in need of money. Sometimes I feel lucky and most of the time it ends up with an unlucky day. If I'm not wrong, majority of my campaign payment ends up losing. I don't deposit and play, for that reason I feel like I was on the lucky side. If not, by now I could've experienced a big loss affecting my living.

Like most who answered, I believe I am a casual player, I play few times, my goal in gambling is just for fun and to pass the time and most of the time the amount of money I bet is very small and it's nothing very significant!
