Ignore account PM

I am thinking if a user put me into his ignore list but I send him a PM does he get it? It is not sure if this is the case with me but either the user did not receive my PM or he is not responding to my request. I need to be sure that the first one is not the reason.

I admit sometimes I am stupid to understand the forum features.

There is an option to ignore PMs (separate from forum post "Ignore" feature) but AFAIK the sender would not be able to send the message to someone who is ignoring them, i.e. in your case you would have known if the user in question is ignoring your PMs.

The ignore user option^[1] is only for posts based on its feature's description since there is an ignore pm feature too ^{(mentioned above)}.

I believe you also receive an automated message back notifying you that you are on the person's ignore list.
edit: Actually it is more of a notification that appears, which blocks the message from ever sending, not really an automated message.

This forum does make it a little difficult to ignore people.  You have to not only ignore them, but also block them from your personal messages.  Even then, if they post on a thread that you're following you will still get an email notification (last time I checked).  It's pretty annoying.  In my opinion the forum should be doing a little more to keep people from having to interact with trolls.  I know my ignore list and personal message block list have grown massively since I started utilizing them and that helps a lot (I see 2 ignored users on this thread even) from keeping the nonsense out of your brain.  Would be great if you could outright block people here so that you never had to see they posted or even know they exist.

I haven't thought about this tone too if you can still send pms on forum users who are on your ignore place as I also wanted to know

Even if you add a member in your Ignore list, you will still see their username in a hidden post in your topic. That means the ignored user never totally disappear in your eyes.

Another annoying thing is if you click on post history of the ignored user, you will see full post content. I know, question will be, if you ignore that user, why you click on his post history?

However, it is still a bug of the forum.

For email notification, I think forum should have a new option, Don't receive email notification when users in your ignore list reply in your topic. Now notifications are for all users.

I know it exists but that for newbie only. It's also about receiving PM. I was the sender in the case.

This forum software is too old. Personally I do not mind the setting it has. Hopefully in the new software (if we ever have it) we will have better experience. In this topic I am asking for information not solution.

I just did a quick test, and yes; You would get a PM from a member you put on ignore, and so a user who ignored you would also get your personal message.

Correct, the administrator Theymos when making that ignore button only had the idea of ignoring a member's posts in a topic you are reading, and not to completely ignore the member or whipe them completely from your sight, it should be called an "ignore member's post" button, until the administrator changes how it works.

If you ignore a member, you will see the member's name and a button to unignore the member below, for the meantime the administrator can replace the member's name that still shows with "ignored". So it will be like this: if you see a member's post that you have ignored, you won't see the username, but instead 'ignored' so you don't know who it is, and then the 'unignore' button below.

If I am not wrong then ignore is a default feature of SMF or an additional extension of it. I believe Theymos did not customize it at all.

Yes, you just need to use the "ignore user"  feature and then config your pm settings to block pms from users in my ignore list.

The above link references that the quoted part applies only to smf 2.0, but I’ve got a feeling that the information is either not correct (some of the features on the 2.0 list are actually present in this forum running on version 1.1.9), or perhaps some (but not all) of these said 2.0 features are accessible from 1.1.9 though a patch.

In that case, that means those members we send PMs to and they do not respond that it is them intentionally not wanting to respond to us. And not because we are placed in their ignore list. That is bad behavior.

It seems someone is thinking he has earned the ticket to ignore any questionable questions when anyone ask them. Anyway, I will have a topic about it since they are not interested to respond the PM. I am guessing one other member have similar questions, they can join the topic too. I need to find some time for it.

If you didn't receive any error warning message that your message can't be delivered to this member, that means he is simply not responding to you messages.
When you ignore someone for personal messages that member can't send you anything until you remove him from PM block list.
I think this is not a bad idea to keep them separately, in theory someone could say sorry in private, and you can remove him from your main ignore list.
