I deleted some of my posts

Not that I expect anybody to care, but it feels weird deleting posts and not explaining why.

I realized that one of my posts (about numeracy) was a little unkind (even though I thought it was funny) and didn't add much to the conversation, so I deleted it.

Then looking back through my post history, I realized that a few more of my posts were low-value or off-topic or snarky or just posted in the hope of getting merit, so I deleted them too.

I'll try to focus on more substantive posts from now on.

If I ever do another "pruning" I'll update this post.

P.S. No need to discuss or merit (that'd be some next-level merit fishing), just leaving this here more for myself than anything.

There is nothing bad to delete some of your posts if they are  useless or of low quality, only what is not advisable is to delete your topic which some high quality posters has posted under.

But in the past, I prefer to edit my posts rather than deleting it.

I just didn't read your post and gave credit. Since I always respect those people who understand that the forum is not a dump, and we must start with ourselves. I also deleted posts that belonged to bounty reports and others. I didn't lose anything.

In addition, you do not have to explain to us the reason for deleting your posts. Whatever you do, the forum archives all your posts, so whoever might be interested in the story one day will still leave an imprint of posts that are not deleted.

Forum does not store it forever. It has time to store deleted posts or PMs. Deleted posts will go to trash can and after a few months, they will be moved to forum archive. After a long time in forum archive, they will be removed completely.

However, there are other sites can archive posts on this forum, longer or forever. They can be fake Bitcointalk forums too.

Nothing is bad by deleting posts if a poster consider it is off topic, low quality or something.

With the rapid growth of storage units and their cheap prices, it is a mistake to bet that something will be deleted in the future, and we are talking about saving texts that do not consume a large amount of memory, not videos and images.


Many 3-rd parties monitor all posts in the forum, so if you delete them out of privacy, I think you have less than 3 minutes before publishing any post to delete it, otherwise deleting it will be a waste of time.

It must be a kind and sincere wish from you. The merit system encourages more users to improve the quality of their posts and if it can be owned by the user then I have no reason to say it is difficult for him to rank up.

I don't know what requires you to update it here when you want to delete one or more posts, it's not mandatory because you have the right to delete it if you really think it's a poor quality post. So just delete it, that's ok.

My scraper catches posts in seconds, I doubt you can delete it that fast.

Yes, I know there are two good tools nowadays for viewing archived posts from any user on this forum. Loyce.club and Ninjastic.space are the two tools what i want to mention, but how long will that data last there, is that no time limit? So what if a certain user wants to delete their post on the forum for privacy reasons, would you consider accepting an offer from that user to remove it?

It depends on the post. I've rejected requests, because I want my data to be accurate and reliable. But I've censored some posts for privacy, or credit card numbers. I always highlight any censoring I do in my deleted posts archive topic.

Just wondering, do you accept request to censor on personal information (such as nationality, Bitcoin address, email address and IP address)?

This is what I've censored so far: credit card info for sale, more credit cards, accidental doxing, more doxing, credit cards again, temporary censoring, possible doxing, hiding an address I shouldn't have posted and more doxing.
In general: it depends. I don't think nationality is something I'd censor: if you don't want it known, don't post it. Bitcoin addresses are often used to prove ownership, so I don't want to censor those (the one I posted by myself was a mistake when copying a PM I sent). I'd probably censor email addresses and IP addresses when requested (but since it takes my time to censor data, I really hope people think before they post it.

I have seen posts like this where people go back to their profile to delete or edit posts made during the early stage in the forum. Seeing that such posts are below standard or they are off topic and in the quest to sanitise their profile they delete them.
I am not a fan of that idea. I have never deleted or edit my pasts posts, I will only do that if I have promoted some scam projects unaware to me, when I become aware I can go delete them. But because of quality I won't delete or edit.
Those are my days of little beginning and low knowledge, they should serve as my personal achive where I can visit in 5 years time and have a sweet smile.

Good, bad or indifferent - your posts are a record of who you are.  Deleting posts to paint yourself in a different light might make a person wonder what you've got to hide?

This is your account and your posts. You are free to delete any posts and no one will ever question you.

However, if there was anything suspicious in those posts and if someone needs to know what you wrote in them, then our member "LoyceV" maintains all deleted post records where one can easily find out what you wrote and deleted it later.

Yup, I mostly agree with that. Maybe with the tweak that they are sometimes only a record of who you were (not that I think this applies in my case, just being pedantic).

Yeah, that's my feeling too and was part of my impulse to unnecessarily explain myself.

If this was an attempt to hide anything, then it wasn't a very good one, because I both drew attention to it (by posting about it) and was aware of Loyce's great tools before deleting any of my posts (e.g. I made use of them to dig up a deleted post here).

I always respect someones post because this is how people express their selves towards some issues or bothering on their minds.

So if you think your post is not relevant to discussion so its your choice to delete it.

Although sometimes its though to delete it because you exert to much effort but it still good if you see it more convenience at your end.
