im building a new computer and want to gear it to bitcoin mining. any suggestions on how to do it relatively cheaply

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Unfortunately there is no way to build cheap Bitcoin mining PC. With the current difficutly you won't be able to mine on PC. I suggest you to look to the altcoins section and pick up anything you like Smiley

Though buying a single usb stick like say the AntminerU2s will be very affordable as an introduction to bitcoin mining and not require any special hardware but an existing PC.

Developer/maintainer for cgminer, ckpool/ckproxy, and the -ck kernel

  You have to dig what kind of mine, mill use different model is different, must know that now many mine is not very make money, you must first think well.
