They just want to take any chance of getting free money, similar like how they're participating a giveaway or airdrop, so they think they have nothing to lose. I'd say social media is the place who have higher chance to get scammed, even the account have a blue check to prove it's an official/real account, it can be hacked and promoting scam. Fortunately, I didn't scam a significant amount ever, it might be because I'm fully oriented here in the forum and in social media as well, that's a part of being crypto enthusiast, be vigilant always and never trust any strangers who offer something free or give free money.  There's no quick free money on the internet and no one wants to be generous and provide a few dollars to those people who they didn't know.

This seems like a generic situation and not just crypto-related so I would just put my input even if it is not a crypto-related stuff.
I was traumatized back in May this year when I just attempted to buy my long dreamed GPU through Facebook and the scammer I talked to was vouched by plenty of people so it would seem legitimate. I took the bite and got scammed for amount of $200+.

Social media sites has been plagued by these scums already and they would not hesitate to adapt to how much you try to bust their scams and of course support of these social media site would do little to no help because their users are the customers in the end anyway. As someone who has some experience reporting scams in the forum, one thing that I noticed is that there are tons of scam websites and promotions that can be easily avoided. Again, this all boils down to the giveaways and promotions being advertised to random people on the internet.

Everyone, please remember that there is absolutely nothing free in this world. Even if some random guy messages you on Telegram asking you to be part of their team; or that they must exchange their money for cryptocurrencies, etc. remember that prevention is always better than cure. I was surprised that regular social media posts (FB, Instagram, Telegram, etc.) were not mentioned as a core source.

It is not surprising indeed that Youtube is one of the core spreaders of scams. Because in recent years the use of YouTube has increased. So this could be the reason why it happened. To me,  the social media would have been the easiest way to fight against scam, to make beginners get aware "the strangers  you meet is at own risk ". Is there anyone in bitcoin right now who doesn't know a thing or two about social media scammers? They're no longer new to the public, all they've been doing is repackaging frauds that are far too obvious when you see them.

If you go to Twitter, it has become a mess to enjoy good replies without sporting a scammer in crypto related threads and it is very annoying, they have even decided to push CZ picture on all of their bots account to comment auto generate replies just to get peoples heads that CZ is doing a give away and Twitter has not found a single solution to these bots. We have these guys all over social media, but I believe Twitter and Youtube are the most dominating places where they hide and mimic channel owners, and nothing is done by the owners of these platforms.

You're very right. Some bunch of Scammers always come after newbies trying to scam them off the little they have. On one or two occasions, I've encountered them especially on Telegram. Once you ask a question as a newbie, you will see a lot of them flooding your DM and claiming to have good intentions meanwhile, they are there to scam. Very pathetic.

Yes, scammers are not restricted and that is because no one well taught it was a scam in the first place. They are actually smart that can hide their true colors and intention until someone becomes a victim. I'd never know what are the precautions that these social media are doing to combat these things but for sure this can never be stopped and the only we do as in individuals is to be more responsible for our doings and never trust those huge offerings in social media as this is a very known scam trick.

good one, don't ever trust people who send messages related to money, even the sender is people you know, you should to check the username first. Because, nowadays people scamming by resembling friends on social media that we know IRL and pretending to come to borrow some money. Besides not trusting people who ask for help or offer some money. Don't just accept and click on all the links, this is mostly enough to make us safe from scammers.
