Success is subjective, it's not all about big things but the small things that you manage to achieve can also be categorized as success.

There are many meanings of success that we can read and understand because success is the last ladder of every effort you make. I agree that it's not always about the big things, but the small things that we can achieve also include success. But if success is associated with economic status, then I believe the richer you are, the more people will say you are successful even though you are never satisfied.

I agree with you on this point. Real success is contentment and acceptance. It is not necessary to have a lot of money and be rich in order to get happiness. What I've learned is you always have to sacrifice something for your success. You either won't have a stable partner, or won't have children, or will have children but you won;t have any connection with them, or you won't have friends , only subordinates... You can't have everything.

I have a few friends with different material status and I can tell you that those who have less money and a nice home feel better. I even have a friend who doubled his pay in exchange for a harder, more demanding work. After a year he's thinking of switching jobs again to something where he'll earn less but have more free time. This is exactly why I always define it as "happiness". It doesn't mean any of the money or fame or achievement or success, it means if you are happy then you are doing the right thing. I'll concentrate on it means to be in several African civilizations where social media doesn't dictate the norm. Following personal conversations with certain west African chiefs, the following is what success looks like:

• having the largest herd of yams, flock of sheep, and goat herd
• having more than two or three spouses

I think success should be measured based on the goals a person had, and success can be very different for different people. For example, I watched a video some time ago about a boy from my developing country who has Down's syndrome. He was really into history and his family had to argue for him to be allowed to pass general entrance examination to the university (our version of SAT). He was allowed to take the test, he scored high enough to get a scholarship to a pretty good university (in my country, scholarships are purely based on the grades you get), and during uni he also became a guide in a local museum. To me, this is a huge success because a person had serious obstacles, definite goals, and succeeded in overcoming obstacles and reaching the goals.
For some spoiled healthy rich kid getting into uni and doing some internship at a museum wouldn't be anything, though, and wouldn't be much of an achievement. So it's not just about the actions, it's also about what it takes for a person to get there.
I also agree with the op that success shouldn't just be about money or fame: IMO if one wants to build a healthy strong relationship with someone else and does that, it's also a great success.
As for objective things, I think we should focus on things that are making the world better or at least aren't making it worse when we talk of people as successful.

Thank you for this great explanation. I also read an account of a man that spent many years manually making irrigation for his community to have access to water. This poor subsistent farmer gave all his best towards this project and after many years the community got water because of his exploits. Materialism is now the order of the day. Now in my country, we see the youth having insatiable lust for luxury.  This is because society has thrown morality and good behavior into the waste bin and now people celebrate riches regardless of the means it was acquired.

As a parent and teacher, I always tell my children and student that the quality of life is not determined by how much you are worth financially but by how much you are worth morally. It is better to live modestly than to defraud, kill and do all kinds of nefarious things because of riches or famous. I can provide for my basic needs and have extra to contribute to my community, I consider myself rich. I set goals for myself and when I achieve these little tasks I celebrate them. Sometimes my little contribution helps my community greatly and they come and appreciate my effort. Fame will always come if you add value to yourself, your family, and your community.

Sanjay Dutt is a son of a famous politician and is one of the richest celebrities, Sunil Dutt. Still, he is behind lock-up. Is this what we call as success? Many gangstar becomes rich out of crime and corruption but they are not successful in our society. This is part of what causes increasement in crime rate and corruption in the world as everyone want to be rich so as to be called a successful being. I guess success would be what makes you feel happy and complete? You can have all the money, but if you aren't happy, you aren't successful. You might have lot of fame, but if you don't have any money and struggle day to day which will make you unhappy, then you have failed to be successful. IMO, in reality humans will never achieve true happiness and absolute satisfaction, they are only temporary in the cycle of human life.

Your conclusion in my opinion is the ultimate truth, the people who are well off and have a lot of money doesn't want to admit it though because money buys you a lot of stuff and they are way too deep into the material world that they can't or won't admit it no matter what.
