Choices: Gamble or Help the poor ?

I will gladly do that, to help the poor. Skipping gambling for a month can't make me go poor, nor will it make me rich. Rendering financial help to the family that needs help comes once in a while, not always.

I can't for a day withhold helping a family that is in need just for gambling. If am to do that, my conscience won't allow me to be at rest for the rest of the day.

It would depend on who that person is to me. If it's a random stranger I'd keep the money for myself and would rather help that person in a different way by giving them advice where to go and who to ask for help, or helping them write to social services for help and things like that.

You make sense, it is better to tell them where to get help but giving them some pocket money wouldn't hurt. 

I'll gladly skip my monthly gambling session and give some of the money to the poor family.  But the thing is giving them money isn't enough to sustain their daily needs so it is better to give them advice and suggestions on where to get help with.  At least this way, this poor family problem will be tackled by the local government office and might help them way more than our monthly gambling budget.

Do you make a monthly contribution to your community?  Have you asked a friend if he needs money? ... etc. Or, do you pay your taxes? Do you always do your family and personal payment duties?

...It's an open question for anyone personas; so You maybe find the hypocrisy of yes and the honesty of a no, but if someone who fulfills his duties or the examples mentioned says no, would you judge them?  and worse still would be a adict because he says no.

Any person integrated into the community and with a sense of social belonging will say yes...

In economics, we were taught difference between needs and wants, if the conditions you find the family or person in need of money warrant it and you're such is a help needed to render to help save integrity and humanity then i think it's better to go for giving help than gambling, you could gamble another day when you make some money, because we need to remember that life is full of ups and downs, situations may turn things around that by tomorrow, you find yourself in the shoe been in need of money for help, always put yourself in some others shoe because situation can turn things around, and also, what if the help needed from you is what determines life and death, will you be ever appreciated or castigated later in life, let's work things out with empathy, and not to be too selfish to ourselves.

Giving them money will only help them temporarily. I could help them with a little amount but I won't sacrifice all my funds allocated to gambling simply because I also want them to strive so they would find ways to survive. As for me, teaching them to fish is better than giving them fish. I will help them find opportunities so they could grind and have a permanent source of income. Helping the poor all the time won't really be helping them because that's just a temporary solution. Helping them find a source of living will be a long-term help.

Presumably this question is about whales? After all, the average person spends 50-100 dollars a month on gambling and it is unlikely that any problem can be solved with this amount. And in general, I don’t see a connection between how a person helps others and his penchant for gambling. Everyone has their own tastes.

I believe the money that we are talking about here is kinda huge so why not adjust the supposed to be budget for 1 month and make it a little bit smaller so that most part of it are going to be donated on the person that seeks for help?

There is no need for us to quit our gambling hobby because our life won't be completed without it and how can we build new funds that we will be using next time if that same person is going to ask for our help again? Not only on that person but there are others too who might be needing our help later on. It's better to play gambling this way because you know that you are not only doing this for yourself but you are also doing it for the sake of others.

I guess this won’t be hard to decide as I am a responsible gambler, and quitting gambling for that certain month is not a big issue. Unless if am a compulsive gambler, that would be very hard to decide as I would surely pursue trying my luck in gambling, and just helping the poor when I have already made good amount of profits.

This is a crucial question that need thorough understanding to make a suitable decision about the next action to take. Normally gambling is based on luck and looking at the matter on ground, I think I will have no choice than to give out the fund to the person that needed it since it is very crucial.
I think the best choice is to help than using the fund to bet which might still result to loses. It is good to take risk but at this time it is risky and unwise to lose the fund in betting than to give it to person that needed it.

First, let's get some terms clarity before we proceed to the topic of discussion, there is nothing like a responsible gambler that will not be able to live without gambling for a month. Now back to the topic, I think it will be better and responsible to help the family member who needs the cash since we should take gambling as fun and not for money making there is nothing wrong with suspending your gambling for a month just to help your family with the money you set aside to gamble with as you can even lose all the money during gambling.

Helping others people in need is a good one, good karma will come back to you but of course don’t do this if you are just expecting something in return, do this because you really want to help. I’m not a gambling addict as well, I can give some financial help but not all, other way to help can also be done. You might have more budget for gambling but for once in a while, never forget to be more humble and help other people too.

If my thought is like needing me to gamble then I'll deduct the amount and give the rest to them. Sometimes when we see people that we want to help and we're out of the pocket, we can't do anything.

I have two answers for you, the first is that I would continue playing because the amount I "invest" in games every month is too low to help family members, I would have another source of funds for this purpose.
On the other hand, if I didn't have extra money saved and I bet a greater amount on the game, I would make the "sacrifice" of staying a few months without playing or playing less to help a family member.

I guess this will depend on someone's perspective and principles in life. Some gamblers are gambling not just for fun but for profit as well because it becomes their additional source of income, so some might ignore it because they are also looking for a living. Meanwhile some people are gambling just for the sake of entertainment so there's a higher chance that they will be able to give some portion of their gambling allocation to those in need.

Although it will really depend on the attitude of the person whether he is a giver or not. Of course, there are people who like to prioritize themselves first before anyone else and we can't really blame them because we are brought up in different environments. Some have innate empathy in them, while some people only have a little. But personally, if I will be in that situation, I will choose to give what I can afford to give. I will give wholeheartedly the amount I can spare for them, not compromising my needs and of course my risking fund in taking a chance in whatever form of gambling.

If they really need money for their life, I will take the money I saved to give to them so that it doesn't interfere with the allocation of other money. I will probably continue to gamble with the money I have allocated and I also help the family so that both can be fulfilled. Helping people in need may be the duty of every human being but it also depends on us.

But if we have no savings, except for urgent needs in our family, we can use the money allocated for gambling to give to the family. And we can stop gambling for a while because helping people is more important than gambling.

Quitting gambling is not always easy especially when you are not ready, because I just read the previous comments to this very thread, and it seems everybody having difficulty choosing to sacrifice his/her allocated amount meant for gambling to an unknown strange family in need. And to be truthful, that's what the majority of addicted gamblers will do, because, in as much as I want to help, it will be the situation of such a family that may trigger me to either give all, half, or choose to gamble to help from the profit made, but if the situation has to do with life and death, I will surely give it all.

I've decided to help the poor and then gamble based on some personal experience. The recent one happened yesterday and today I lost big in gambling after long break. Yesterday few people requesting for help was on the streets, I had money but I did investigation to help and further didn't help them. My mind says if I could've helped them yesterday I couldn't have lost today.
