It could harm my reputation if the people around me found out that I like to gamble because they would not give me a chance on why I like gambling, even though I explained that I like to gamble for entertainment. They will surely say that there are many other ways to get entertainment and why did I choose to gamble? That's why I don't want my gambling activities to be known by others and I tend to play gambling when I'm alone and of course, I always apply the rules for myself so I don't experience big losses.

Some schools has a strict rules for there professors to become role model to there student. Like on my previous school which is a catholic school that prohibits teachers on doing this kind of things publicly because gambling is bad in my country while student might be influenced if the one who educate them is doing it. It’s still depends on the country culture and company view on acceptance on gambling. This suggestion is case to case basis and not applicable to all.

I knew gambling is not bad at all because I’m a gambler too but the culture in my country makes gambling looks bad so I hide it as much as possible so that I will not be judged.

In general I think that gamblers should try to avoid spreading information about gambling hobbies outside their families and friends because many people believe that gambling carries only trouble. And if it so happened that someone found out about my hobby I will not begin to justify to them because only I choose what to do in my spare time and am responsible for it.

If you are a teacher, I think yes it will harm your reputation but only if your students caught you in the act that you are playing a gambling inside the school during working hours. They have the rights to report you to the school principal because you are not doing your duties well.

While if you are a lawyer I think you will have more time for your self and lawyers rarely bond with their clients so it's going to be rare if your clients will catch you playing a gambling but in case they do, what will they do? Nothing. They cant report you because they are the ones that seeks for your service. So I think it will solely depend on the person's profession.

Being a citizen of a country where gambling is legal I don't think it would be defamatory at this point. Because gambling is now not only thought of for money income. It now occupies a large place in entertainment. Moreover, gambling can be done successfully. Well, if you think like that, then in general it is best to keep your life private in all aspects. People have prejudices not only towards gambling, but also towards sexual orientations, religion and other things. It is in the interests of professionals to be "known" to clients only in a professional sense, since knowing any other information about you, they can give vent to his prejudices/complexes.

Discrimination will always be around us regardless of our profession so yes, it might ruin my reputation because people will always say things against someone without even knowing the whole story. As for me, as long as I'm living a life without harming anyone, I don't think I should mind those who will look down on me when they discover that I'm into gambling. As long as we're responsible gamblers, we shouldn't get affected by society. If we have a good title and profession, it doesn't mean that we are not allowed to enjoy the things that we want to do.

Depending on where do you live, if you live in a place where gambling is not considered as something bad then I think it wont affect your reputation as well as your career.
However if you live in a place where gambling is considered as a crime like in my country, for sure it will affect reputation as well as career.
To be frank, I dont really care about what is said by others because they know that I'm a gambler and I think that I do not need to explain it to them.
As long as I know what I'm doing, I'm responsible to what I'm doing, I'll just ignore what people say about me.

This is an important point when someone is addicted to gambling. At that moment only gambling can be unsafe for him. Moreover, nothing good can be expected from a legitimate person if he is addicted. From that point of view it would be disrespectful. But if one is gambling occasionally or irregularly it may be acceptable.

I kind of get the point that some schools have strict rules and want their teachers to be role models for their students. but outside these exceptions, a gambling hobby shouldn't be a reason to affect your reputation.

I doubt that somebodies reputation cannot be mended. If anything we don't live in some asian country where "face" is the most important thing in the world. Everybody makes mistakes and its completely fine that they do. But whenever a doctor makes the same mistakes we forget he is human and instead tend to think he has now become a lesser being. Someone not to be trusted. Which has a bit of truth to it. But depends on the situation.

I would take a gambling doctor over a doctor with a reputation of making many wrong diagnoses. Although I would be careful with my money around a gambling doctor. He might try to sell you unnecessary medicine or prescribe unnecessary treatments to make some money.

Gamblers shouldn't feel ashamed or hide from others, particularly if they are only betting for fun and don't consider themselves to be compulsive gamblers. As long as their gambling doesn't interfere with their regular life, they shouldn't treat it as some kind of secret that they must keep hidden from the world. I think everyone that has a problem with gambling should do something about it, but if you're not obsessed with gambling and you're not addicted to it then I think its fine to gamble. Many professional people gamble in different ways but they're mostly good at their job so I don't think there is a big risk even if someone find out. Actually in some societies, people who is dwelling in some certain environment do not accept, embrace or regards someone who lives life with gambling as responsible human being. If student notice that their teachers neither their lecturer is a gambler, liking the teacher will depend on the relationship establish with the teacher. I could remember when i were in university, one of the intelligent lecturer we have is alcohol addict and without taking enough alcohol it will not teach, and it so it take us in physics but majorities of the students Loved him because of it's demonstration in teaching and under influence of alcohol

Unfortunately, around me, gambling is something that is strictly prohibited and something that should be avoided. Because gambling is indeed prohibited in my country and also in my religion. So, when people find out if I gamble, whether I do it as a professional or just for fun or a hobby, I will still be labeled bad by them. They will not want to know what the reason is and what the activity is, as long as it is still related to gambling then it is wrong. And no matter how much, however much detail we try to explain, we will still be wrong in their eyes.
That's why we better just ignore it and focus on what we're doing.
