You're a professional like a lawyer or a teacher in a respected university, will it harm your reputation if people around you or your students discover that you are into gambling, you're not really a compulsive gambler but gamble for entertainment, how will you explain this to people around you or will you explain to protect your reputation or just ignore them.

Actually in some societies, people who is dwelling in some certain environment do not accept, embrace or regards someone who lives life with gambling as responsible human being. If student notice that their teachers neither their lecturer is a gambler, liking the teacher will depend on the relationship establish with the teacher. I could remember when i were in university, one of the intelligent lecturer we have is alcohol addict and without taking enough alcohol it will not teach, and it so it take us in physics but majorities of the students Loved him because of it's demonstration in teaching and under influence of alcohol

Impression would turn out to be negative since you would presume that if someone is under the influence of alcohol which they cant really do things well but it seems it is the other way around based on what you do example, which this do simply shows that whatever things you've been dealing as long you dont forget on what you are doing and be responsible then it should be fine.
Just like on what other people been saying that reputation doesnt really been affected as long you dont forget on what are the things you do need to do.
Dont mess up or forget into those so that people wouldnt really tell to themselves that they were right.

Well, it varies to your surroundings and that's why if you just want to gamble at peace then don't tell it to anybody because that's much better to hear nothing and you're free to gamble as much as you can.

While on the other hand, if you've got a good set of friends and your relatives knew that you gamble and they see that you're not the compulsive type then that's much better then.

You only have to gamble moderately and you're going to be good to go without them judging you that you may end up badly.

Its true that its your money which means you do have the full rights on what you should gonna do or spent up into your money.You cant just let those

We really do not owe anyone an explanation of the things we do and want to do. It's our life and it should be none of their business. Although oftentimes, these people do not really know their boundaries and keep pestering around thinking we owe them a lengthy explanation of why we do things and how we do it. They will keep on bothering you and spreading gossip around, but all of that our already beyond of our control.

The thing we can control is how we will let their negativity affects us. We can either shove it away or be so hurt to the point that we'll end up sulking because of other people's opinion of us. It's our choice. It's just really saddening that gambling has a bad reputation and being linked to it will automatically means that you are doing a bad  thing already when in fact you aren't. If you know it to yourself that you are a responsible gambler, then go on with your gambling ways as long as you don't step on others in the process. If you know your profession will be affected the moment you gamble, then better not do it at all. Some profession and career path really prohibits gambling because of their nature of work and of course, to maintain their good reputation such as being a public servant and being an accountant or whatever profession/career related with public service and like you said, financial related work.

Being a citizen of a country where gambling is legal I don't think it would be defamatory at this point. Because gambling is now not only thought of for money income. It now occupies a large place in entertainment. Moreover, gambling can be done successfully. But still, be careful if you want to play gambling and pay attention to the environment around you because some people will not like to see you play gambling.

The stereotype of gambling to many people is it just causes addiction. If you can withstand some words that you will hear from them then ignoring would be better for me. Arguing that you're not what they think will make things worse and just ruin your mental peace. Changing their mindset about gambling will be difficult if they are narrow-minded about it. They don't realize that anything that is done excessively can ruin someone's life not just gambling.

It really depends on the social circles in which you are moving, I know a lot of people that gamble and I have never heard from any of them that somehow they are being discriminated against by that fact.

However if you have a job that has to do with managing money or which requires that you have an image as clean as possible like a teacher then it may be a good idea to not reveal this, and if someone happens to discover it then you need to show that it is simply harmless fun and that you do not have any kind of gambling problem.

also internet can be bypassed so indeed that even if there is banning yet people continues to enjoy their activities but of course they can face troubles if being caught .

It is kinda hard to explain people that you like gambling as a hobby. Nearly all people see it as very bad habit and bad for your finances. But just like all things, if you can control yourself and play in limited time its very fun. I personally love slots for example. It feels fancy with visuals and sound effects. It makes me remember good old arcade machines. I set money I will spend on my mind so I can stop myself. That's how I explain.

I think the reputation depends on the personality and even if we do gambling as long as we don't harm others and we don't steal others money and we are pair then we are still reputable, i have a lot of friends a teacher that do gambling but still they are reputable that was thier hard earned money and they have the right to use that money even in gambling.

I support your point of view, but unfortunately not everyone can understand it because many faiths have a negative attitude towards gambling, and some of them even equate gambling with sin. Hopefully it's just as easy as you say it, but the judgment will linger longer than you can think of. I work in an environment closely to the academe and I have mentors and mentees who look up to me in a way. When they first found out about my gambling habits, they tend to distance themselves initially and limited their interaction with me when it comes to money matters. It's a long and tiring process to convince them that you're not who they think you are, but eventually they understood and slowly took that judgment off me but some of it still shows on their subtle jokes. I never had a problem with chasing losses nor using more money than I can afford on gambling but most of the time people are just too quick to jump on the gun.

Every time something is banned in every context be it drugs,alcohol,prostitution and things like these it only makes them stronger and more profitable for the people who run them.Same has happened in my country where online and offline gambling was banned in 2019 but yet in a new draft from the government the online one will be allowed.Even in this time that it was forbidden by law people used VPN and used to play at other sites,they make use of crypto which facilitated their gambling.Reputation for being a gambler here is always bad but people do not care much nowadays and they continue gambling anyway despite being tagged with a title like that here.

Yeah, in this modern times, we will hear a lot of people having this kind of reasoning. First off, I think the word gambling has been misinterpreted to an extent that people no longer understand the difference between recreational or fun gambling to fierce or addicted gambling. Generally, people in the  society today do not respect gamblers irrespective of their class or profession and for a teacher to be involved in gambling sends a bad signal because apart from families being scared of entrusting their wards and children to them, there is a possibility of the kinds emulating their lifestyle hence they seen them as people who are responsible because of their profession. PS, I don't respect addicted gamblers and I can't entrust my kids to them because they can easy influence them.

Indeed, I don't even know what could be done if I were in their place, because the prevailing stereotype regarding gambling as a vice leaves in fact a person caught in them not so many options for excuses. I would just have to ignore it and try not to play anymore, at least in public places.

I guess, I can make the perfect example of this from the series on Netflix "Squid Game". One character there seems decent and professional but he's in total debt and a liar to his mother from the job he's doing but he's acting decent and good and as if he's not into problems, Cho Sang-Woo while the other character who's a gambler too is Gi-Hun but living miserably.

The good thing that we have right now in online gambling is that, we're all free to do it and nobody sees you unless you speak it to someone that you do it.

Remember that it's your money, your time and you don't harm others from doing it but, it's a different story when you're already harming yourself and others with gambling.

Where I live it wouldn't be a big deal if a, let's say, a student saw me in a casino. Professional groups like teachers, doctors, or lawyers don't make a big deal out of it since it's legal. If they saw me in a brothel it would be pretty much the same. Maybe if they saw me in a brothel and I had a wife it would become an popular rumor, but they wouldn't fire me because of it.

In modern societies gambling is seen more like smoking. Many people don't smoke and don't like smokers but you don't fire people because they're heavy smokers.
