It's been three years when you created this account and a few years after no single post and now you are posting it here and asking about the account deletion. Is there's any problem? Anyways as far as I know when you already create an account here in bitcointalk.org you can not delete your account, otherwise you will ask for permission to banned your account. Or else you will do an self discipline from now on abandon your account and forgot your password.

You register one new account just to ask how to delete the account. don't you think that is a bit twisted?
As Charles-Tim says, there is no chance to delete the account, even if you delete all the posts, there are 3rd party services that save them. so you are part of the forum and no one will change that.

you can not delete your account, otherwise you will ask for permission to banned your account.

Banning an account does not delete it, it just restricts one from posting on it. If that's the goal, locking your account;
• Either by attempting to recover it through secret question or,
• Attempting to change log in details and following the lock account opion received in the mail.

Ha, probably, he woke up and still can login here lol. Kidding aside deleting account is possible base on help page^[1] but the thing the feature is not there anymore. And it says that admin can^[2] delete accounts too, but i wonder if theymos really do it.
Anyway, threads linked above are the most easiest way to do it e.g. changing password to random characters then just logout, simple.

I haven't seen this throughout my forum journey for the last few years, at least I can't remember if I have seen a single time. However, theymos may consider if there's a good reason behind asking for the deletion of an account. If someone can convince theymos that deletion is necessary, I think theymos would do it.

You have shared a link where it says account can be deleted. It's an option available on smf but bitcointalk doesn't. Maybe theymos forgot to remove the message.

The option seems to have been available in SMF 1.1.x, but is disabled on this forum. The help guide seems to be a default proforma content, shared in other implementations such as this one, this one, and this other one. I guess it could be edited here to adapt the content to the available options.

Since the forum was moved to it’s current domain in august 2011, and the procedure to delete an account was depicted in September 2011 as requiring the Admin (se quote below), I doubt it has ever actually been an option for the user to self-delete his account, at least under the current domain.

To delete your account:
- Delete all of your posts you want deleted
- PM me with the name you want your remaining posts credited under

Thanks for the clarification. That forum/smf help page really needs a rebump if ever it is possible. Or just disabled it for showing completely as it doesn't reflect the same features on the current forum existing feature.

Let me provide you with alternative ways to stay off the forum without undergoing much stress.

1. You can choose to remain inactive forever.
2. Try to get yourself banned from the forum
3. Logout and clear the browser history
4. Delete the browser used for login
5. Try not to remember your account login details

Even though i don't know the reason why you wanted to delete your account but staying mute with it alone is like killing the account, but i doubt if there's the function bottom for delete account, if you're not interested you can always avoid login in and that's very simple to achieve.

your account can be permanently ban if you plagiarize. So that's an alternative way to delete your account. Just plagiarize and you will be ban and that easy.

I presume that the OP is and Alt created to formulate the question, without doing so from his main account (for whatever reason).

Banning an account does not delete the user's posts, nor the account itself, as he can still log into the account. He won’t be able to post, nor send neither PMs nor Merits and such, but it does not equate deleting the account.

The only case where a user’s posts get deleted in cascade is when the account is nuked, which I believe can only happen to accounts that are Newbies and have less than 30 Activity points (not sure if the said Newbie can be nuked if he has received any Merits).

Also note that a ban on an account theorically extends the ban to all the accounts belonging to the same person, now and in the future. On may wish to delete an account, whilst not compromising his other accounts now or later on.

It may also worth mentioning that Internet is not forgetting. Even if an account gets nuked and posts deleted, there are places (websites) the posts may remain archived and publicly available.
Also I agree: if an account is banned, it's quite an irreversible option, that person will no longer be welcome on this forum.


OP: there's a saying "never say never". Just leave the account deserted, but with a strong and unique password you don't throw away. You never know when you'll want to come back.

Yeah you simply just don't login on the account and it would not to be in usage and lying inactive for years like you could have done the same instead of asking this question after a long period of time.

As other have said it's not possible to delete your account as the feature is not available and @theymos won't take any responsibility to do such things so better use and password that you don't share with others and leave it as it is and nothing harm can be done.

It's kinda absurd that your very first post here on Bitcointalk was asking on how to delete your account rather than introducing yourself first to the community. Or maybe I think this is a multi-account of a certain existing Bitcointalk user. Just my assumption but correct me if I'm wrong.

Once you have created it, there is no way for it to be deleted. Just simply forget about logging in on Bitcointalk and that's it. Period.

Considering that OP was already registered in here 3 years ago, I guess it is just another sudden change of mind and no more other reasons.

Surely OP has been inactive in here since that year and going back thinking that deletion of account is possible in here like Reddit and other usual social media sites you know.
