Just for fun was going through Wayback Machine and found stats for the bitcointalk forum from Oct 2012, I wanted to compare what is changed in those 10 years from 2012 vs 2022

Very interesting to see Members, Posts and Pages View are almost all increased at the same rate by ~50x

Here most interesting is number is Total Boards, how it's increased from 89 to 258 boards today
I guess there's something wrong with Male to Female Ratio in 2022 as it says 1: 27998 i mean how?

That's right. Since topics like MOVED carry purely technical information, it was decided at the top to remove them from consideration. That is why they are not taken into account when displaying the number of posts. That is why there is such a discrepancy in the display of statistics.

Apart from the well documented cases, it's far more likely to be neither. As humans we tend to think of the extremes because it's less tedious than the more likely outcomes, simply moving on or losing access to their accounts as examples.

Ultimately, ten years isn't a long time for either of those two outcomes to come true, especially in the majority of the cases. You could argue that Bitcoin is the exception in getting rich, but most humans think alike, and most wouldn't have held all of their Bitcoin once it started to increase in the early stages.

The possibility of death is less likely, given that most of those who learn about Bitcoin are between 18 and 66 years old, and therefore adding 10 years will not change the death rate much.

The probability that they will be rich is not high, but depends on the definition of the word rich and it varies from one country to another, but if it is one of the countries where 100,000 dollars means a lot, then it will definitely be closer to being rich.

I don't think the possibility of death is that unlikely.  We know for sure that Phinnaeus Gage has passed on for example.  It wouldn't surprise me if others had as well.  10 years is a very long time.  I look at all the things that have happened in the last 10 years in my own life and it's such a long time anything could have happened.  People could be diagnosed with and lose their battle to cancer in 10 years.  People could get into car accidents, not to mention if the Covid pandemic was as scary as people say, many users could have been lost to that. 

Don't underestimate death and a decade of time.  This is a good reason why we should appreciate who is here now.  In 10 more years, it's likely many more common names on the forum will disappear.

In 2012 when the Average registration per day was 65.39, there used to be an average of 363.34 online per day.
Then, in 2022 when the average registration per day increased by more than 400% making it 301.43 registration per day, the number of online per day decreased to 127.26

What really happened? Do people just register and not come online ?

I really feel somewhat baffled when you ask this question.
Haven't you grinded through the stressful part of consistency in here? Coupled with the ignorance that any newbie would have at first site? It's something that took you --atleast, sometime to pull through 'em; we have alot of people that can't persevere, just the way you, I, and everyone else did.
I really think that a user with proir intensions on learning alot would hold on to what they came for, but any one that registered with an unclear motive -- if it takes too long to leave its embryotic stage, then they'll simply give up.....it's as easy as that. I understand that some had been forcefully snatched from life itself, by the cold hands of "Hades", but that's a different ball-game

I used to know this fact but forgot it: when did signature campaigns really kick off here?  For some reason I thought it was before 2012 (I recall reading the first thread in which signature space was offered up for advertising), but if that's true then the membership count given in the OP seems really low.  I'd be really interested in seeing a graph of time vs. member count with the start of sig campaigns marked on it.  Probably membership exploded, but I'm not certain about that.

I highly doubt that number is correct (even if those how have hidden their online status aren't considered as online)
According to loyce.club, more than 2100 users have made post in the past 24 hours. The number of users who have been online in the past 24 hours and the number of users who have been online per day on average should be much bigger.

The statistics page is wrong (again). In the past 24 hours, 2132 different users have posted on Bitcointalk, and that doesn't include the users who have been online without posting.
I mean: what hosseinimr93 said I opened this page this morning, but only replied now. Considering the number of inaccuracies on the statistics page, I'd take it with a huge grain of salt.

It looks like the Statistic Center is based on this mod. The description states that the Admin can tweak the parameter settings for the period of time, setting it accordingly to fit one of these options:

This mod allows you to select periods for which to display the forum statistics.
You can choose between first/last x days/weeks/months/years or custom start and end dates OR their combination.

Not sure how the parameters are set here, but I presume that the period is set globally to the Statistics Center to keep a consistency in the displayed data (as opposed to set per counter).

Having said that (as a context), it seems clearly inconsistent: If we take the average posts per day in 2022, and contrast it to the average number of user online per day, we get a ratio of over 43 posts per day per active user. The ratio is just over 3 in the 2012 snapshot.

Note: there are probably many bot type registrations nowadays with 0 posts, than back in 2012, so the average number of registrations per day may not represent accounts with real intent to participate in the forum.

Well I tried to dig out but did not find the exact start date of a proper signature campaign and but one thing for sure it was way after 2012.

Some signature auctions or a limited scale campaigns you can say started in somewhere around 2011, referring to this post

PrimeDice was only limited to Staff at the end of the campaign when it was winding down. At first it was open to everyone. I don't believe they were the first either, but probably the one who popularised it and was certainly one of the longest running. They were also the first campaign I saw on the forum and also joined.

Yes there were quite few old bounties as early as August 2010, but those were not signature campaigns.

I found one more signature campaign earlier than PrimeDice, is this one Buying Your Signature! Up to 0.15/month on May 25, 2013

Regarding this point some data is already available on stats page from Nov 2009 to Dec 2017

Based on this table if you some up new members each month you will get a graph something like this, and lets say 2011 and 2013 are campaigns points then the graph will look like 

Not that much information I guess, but still it's clear where are the big jumps

- Nov 2009 to Mar 2011, first stage few thousands user
- May 2011 to Mar 2013, second stage from few thousands to almost 100k user
- 2013 a steady growth almost double 200k user
- 2014 - 2015 big growth, half a million users
- 2015 - 2017 it exploded 1.4 million users

So after 2017, stats page is silent, but I guess I can refer back to my web.archive.org and can roughly estimate over next few years after 2017

The explosion of members in this forum is a consequence of so many factors: from Bitcoin adoption, Bitcoin usability to income from posting in the forum. If Bitcoin hadn't have real use cases and good usability, it would have not been adopted well and people would have not mind about income in Bitcoin by posting.

The decreases of new and active members (then total posts, total topics created monthly) should be a combined effect of bear market, merit system launch, less active (or good) bounties or stricter management and requirements from bounty managers.[/list]

If you studied the statistics posted by other members of this forum, you could see that the activity on this forum is actually dropping, especially in the local sections of the forum.
So we have a lot more members but less activity on the forum, and I would say less quality discussions based on my personal experience, than before.
Why is this so and why people register on this forum and then do not write on the forum?
A very difficult question. Somehow it seems to me that lately there are a lot more crypto discussions in Telegram groups and on social networks. Maybe the time of internet forums is over.
As far as I can see, young people are no longer interested in internet forums and older members are mostly active there.

Honestly, Lauda was an enigma (and dramatic if I must add 🙄 though). The user's account was self destroyed in 2020, yet till date it has more posts than most active members here. Somehow, I still miss them not being present here, on that account.
