There are many things that make someone to participate actively in the bitcointalk, and everyone actively involve in one thing or the  the other. The following are some of the Immune Boosters in the forum.

• Merit

the day I got my one merit, I was excited to participate more and today I am active to some extent and likewise to some newbies who received their first merit in the forum and the excitement that follows.

• Investment

I might make a mistake on it, I am thinking that it is the highest because most bitcoiners are here to discuss their investment on bitcoin both on the bear and the bull market in the forum. The forum gave them update on all movement from different boards. And this forum nwas created because of bitcoin so any other thing is added onto it.

• Signature Campaign

this is one of the immune booster where users participate to get extra bitcoin and add it to their investment.

Should Merits and signature campaign be the only cheer to have interest and feel satisfied with the forum alone, I've seen many members not having enough Merits and have been active on the forum, while some have also been very active and nit interested in participating in a signatory campaign, i think what needed to first define is your purpose for coming, this will now determines what you are after and how you can get it fulfilled, so don't tell me those not in a signature campaign or not having Merits got their immune weak on the forum by being timid or got inferior, but i think everyone likes the way he has found himself here since each user determines his fate all by himself here on bitcointalk.

Different folks with different interest, you may be correct that some are in the forum for merits, signatory participation and investment but it's most likely that there are many others in bitcointalk that have no interest in any of the aforementioned above by you. They could be satisfied with the ideas they benefits from the forum, the questions and answers/solutions they get to cryptocurrency issues bothering them and some other interests not mentioned could just be well enough to boost their interest. For those that knows better, bitcointalk has numerous benefits to render not limited to those you mentioned mate.
All still boils down to interest!

I would say it is knowledge.

Before all these points you mentioned existed, the forum was focused on gaining knowledge and exchanging ideas about Bitcoin and the like.

All together, it allows us to have the community that we have on Bitcointalk.

I do not think we need to label these things like immune boosters and energy boosters members are motivated by money and that will never change. Merit has become something that is required to earn money here and I do not think we need to get any more spiritual than that not everyone is here for money the wo topic has a lot of legendary members that do not participate in signature campaigns but it is true that most members are here for signature campaigns.

'Immune' boosters seem like a wrong term in the context it is being used. Energy boosters (which was used) or incentives which keeps one attracted to the forum is more appropriate.

The most potent reason why many members visit the forum daily, is the potential of earning from it. It is the reason users seek out merits to be able to rank up, and the reason members post to be able to build your activity or meet up with the requirements of a campaign they are on.
I can predict that if all means of earning on the forum is shut down, the traffic here would drop by almost 90% within the first week.This is definitely more a beration of the members here, but how human nature is. We commit time to things we benefit from; knowledge is a great benefit, but an extra incentive is needed by most to push them to seek out knowledge.

I don't agree with you in this very one because I've seen alot of active accounts who have been on the forum for over years and still at very low ranks without any signature campaign or so.
I agree with you in the basis of merit as a morale booster as you named it because for every merit I receive, there is always a huge joy in my heart certifying that I'm doing a good job.
Truth be told that merit is a prove that your post  captured a heart and possibly solved a problem or gave solution and everytime I earn one or more, I feel fulfilment.
On the basis of investment, I would say that having a profitable investment somewhere that give hopes of money is also a major factors enhances once stay in the forum as investors wants to stay ahead of the market and with an active presence here, there are chances of staying ahead of the market if the right things and analysis are Ben done.

If I'm not mistaken, the Bitcointalk.org forum was already the coolest place on the internet, even before they introduced the fancy-schmancy Merit system. But hey, if adding a Merit system means we get even more witty banter and insightful discussions, then bring it on!  

As for investing and campaigning, I don't think it's everyone's beeswax. After all, there are plenty of folks out there who are into Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies for entirely different reasons.

I don't think there's some other platform like Bitcointalk though(except that one platform, CryptoTalk if I remember correctly, but it sucks). Bitcointalk is the only relevant forum with signature campaigns.

some people are motivated to stay active in forums because of money. although there are still quite a lot of active members who don't use paid BTC signatures, and they deserve to be appreciated because they are in the forum to discuss, share and find information.

regarding Merit, what is your goal after getting enough Merit? rank up and become Legendary? after that, you'll probably start to get bored with the forum activity you've been working on for a few years.

I think finding something interesting in the forum is a good self-motivation to keep us active in the forum for a long time.
like crypto gambling caught my attention when I first joined Forum. I do play online gambling, but after knowing forums and getting to know casino crypto. it became something new and interesting for me.

I think the only booster as you called it, is the knowledge we learn here.  Aside what you listed above, member's knowledge about bitcoin boosts on daily basis. When I'm in the midst of bitcoiners my responses standout and they tend to listen to me more than any other person in the room. Many people who are not members of this forum don't know the features of bitcoin and its usage. When you use terms like open source and closed source wallet in a conversation a lot of bitcoiners who are not members of this forum  may get confused. So it's not just a flex, but it effects uniqueness in us amongst others. If you read this forum to some extent you will be happier to learn new terms more than you were after getting your first merit. Those who don't learn in the forum may leave the forum even before earning their first merit.

That means you here for money not any other thing. Time is coming that the forum will know you really belong if money is the problem to you. Though many users here are for that purpose but hey are hiding it but it is obvious that you expose yourself. If you want to advance in the forum you need to read as I have been doing since almost a week or more. Read more so that some of the questions that will be asked would be gotten through reading.

OP, there's nothing to be ashamed of if you need money. It's a shame that people will resort to unethical means in order to obtain money. Start doing everything gradually. You are sure to achieve your goals. I don't know if you need rank or experience, but by reading and studying, you gain both.

I got on the forum before I knew about signature campaign and merit system. As much as I want my merit to increase, I came here to learn about bitcoin. I didn't know what the forum entails before I joined, I thought it's just a place to learn and talk about bitcoin. It was after I joined and I started reading and that's when I got to understand the forum. As a matter of fact I'm still getting to know about the whole forum. So I'll say my "immune booster " is first my curiosity before the things you mentioned because it was out of curiosity I registered to this forum.

Straight up fact OP, but how did you know these? You are a newbie that's why I asked how you knew? I have no other thing in mind than to believe that this is an alternative account, many members tend to pretend as if merits doesn't matter, mean while merits brings you closer to your next ranks and higher rank means better payout joining signature campaign, this is just the fact.

There is nothing wrong with learning and earning, I believe this is the definition of Bitcointalk forum, in fact there is more to learning on here than earning.

If you want to stay motivated on the forum it's better to love what you do, even if you have all the merits on the forum you will get bored as time goes on, keep learning and work more on yourself, only do what makes you happy and you won't ever get bored.

As for investment Bitcoin is the most certain, less risky and future reliable, there isn't much to talk about investing in Bitcoin but altcoins have a wider range of discussions since there are just too many altcoins out there and believe me, it's a wild west.

Not everyone here with the same purpose, but I agree on the merit part, merit is something everyone wants but some may also spend time here for other bitcoin related or service related activities. Some are here to learn about the crypto space, learning has no limit, and this forum serves that purpose very well.

Exactly, merit motivates members to keep going on good direction, OP might have called it as "immune booster", instead merit is a Moral Booster.

There are sections of the forum where its community is not engaged in the signature campaign, check out the mining section and other sections there are legendary members where there their interests are all about subjects relative to their interests and they are not under the rules of any campaign, your so-called immune booster is not only for signature campaign, it's for their authority and trust from being a member of this forum, you need to roam around and explore and don't just confine yourself to getting merits for signature.

Signature Campaign and Merit drive most of the people to stay on bitcointalk, but personally, I Learn from someone else from this forum and of course new things that previously I don't understand and keep updated with the news. Oh, and there is a moment that I actually sad and cry because of someone else story

Apart from the ones you've mentioned, which are very common here, they could still be more energy boosters, but only the person who sees it as an immune booster will know.

Everyone here is motivated by what brought them here; if you get what you want and it works for you, I believe you'll want to interact and participate more here. Those who do not achieve their goals here tend to become discouraged and participate less in the forum discussions. While it is being created, the forum has a purpose; if everyone is here for that purpose, we will have more active users here. However, in the forum today, everyone is entitled to their notion of the forum that brought them here in the first place.
