I wouldn't say there's scarcity. it's more like they aren't as needed anymore as wingers play more important role. the shift occurred sometime during Messi's and Ronaldo's prime. As a result they usually don't play a really important role anymore.

As an example, nobody really knew how good Benzema was until Ronaldo left and the striker position became important for Real.

Had it not happened, Benzema would have been remember as just a good player but now he's remembered as a Ballon d'Or winner and one of the best players of the generation.

Yeah, this was the record until Germany did otherwise and broke the record back in 2014, when Mario Gotze scored the only goal with few minutes to penalty shootout, everywhere eruption. That was a redefining moment for European football on the American soul, as previously they had never won the tournament on their soil. I could remember many back Brazil and Argentina, when Germany humiliated Brazil 7 - 1 in front of their fans as the host nation, tipping for the winner shifted, the final was tense, both teams missed chances. Well that's that, I can only think of 2 teams in this world cup to win it and as it's positioned both of them could be in the finals. I mean France Vs Argentina, I just have this feeling that we will have a repeat of last year's final but the French to win it this time. These are the 2 solid teams I have seen so far in the competition this year.

Germany’s loss really was unexpected, they won a game 7-1 and looked unstoppable but then fumbled so hard they barely went through group stage and got humiliated by paraguay getting knocked out in the round of 32, morroco’s game wasn’t really surprising because I believed in them since the start of the tournament and their performance was good against netherlands, barely won on the penalties though. This could be the year of underdogs.

japan’s last-minute loss saddened me on one hand, but on the other hand, it’s great that brazil is still in the tournament. that match was really good. paraguay surprisingly knocked out germany. while everyone expected south american countries to perform worse than european ones, we saw south american teams play some very challenging games. since european tactics and the understanding of the game differ from those of those countries, it’s hard to predict who will win.

we’re now heading into the final minutes of the ivory coast vs. norway match, and it’s a very close game. it’s very interesting that norway hasn’t conceded a goal so far.

Don't know what will be the final outcome of the match but I know it's been a quality game to watch and the tension is the kind you see when two heavyweights are playing against eachother.
