England are a great team, but they are just not great enough to win the World Cup yet with their style of playing. I wonder why does England always like to engage coaches who prefer to switch into defensive mode once England got a single goal lead against their opponents. England did also lost against Croatia at the Semi Finals in the 2018 World Cup when they had a single goal lead and Croatia did managed to turn the game exactly in the same way as Argentina did today. I believe it is time for England to engage coaches who prefers to continue launching offensive attacks even when England are leading the game instead of just sitting behind while hoping their opponents doesn't score any goals until the final whistle is blown.

Isn't it ironic that each and every team that tried this strategy lost their matches. I can give numerous examples, such as Japan vs Brazil, Croatia vs Portugal, DR Congo vs England, Senegal vs Belgium.etc. The classical example is the Egypt vs Argentina match. Egypt was leading by 2-0 at the 79th minute (would have been 3-0, if a controversial VAR decision annulled one of their goals). Egypt went in to defensive mode after they scored their second goal. But it was of no use. Argentina scored 3 goals in 13 minutes, and won the match. Perhaps Egypt would have won had they continued with their natural game.

Although Messi did not have much success in the semi-final match, he tried his best. He is certainly a talented and influential player. He has better contributed to Argentina reaching this stage in this World Cup but it was a concerted effort. Enough of this agenda. I am not a core fan of Messi but to be honest, Argentina was superb today. They deserve the win today because they were the better side to watch. Tuchel ruined England formation by substituting his best players out for Konsa and Burns.

Tuchel wanted to secure the match quickly but that was exactly the mistake he made. Though seeing the game in the second half before the break their dehydration was very good but after 1 goal and quick substitutions made to deepen the defensive line instead it became a boomerang for England.

A bit unfortunate but the final result is a choice they have taken in normal time when if they had stayed with the same scheme as they played at the beginning of the second half maybe they could have stayed or at least stayed until extra time in this match.

It's a tactical decision from Tuchel that costs England a defeat as I believe that if England had tried to play normally, control ball somewhat more, they would have reduced considerable from Argentina, and even made more challenge to Argentina.

Using Saka or not, it's not important. The problem is Tuchel forced his players to play entire defensive after the goal from Gordon, they did not make any challenge to Argentina midfielders, no physical fight, no pressure, and that means they had high risk of getting conceded goals. Remember that England is not Italy, and they're not master of defense with very low block.

They were leading in the first half and should have proceeded with similar pressure in the second half they would definitely have won.
