Fuel Scarcity Discussion: NNPC sells petrol for N148; private depots, N215+

Petrol shortage has persisted yesterday across the country, as Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, DAPPMAN, continued to sell petrol at N215 per litre to marketers. This is an excess of N67 per litre or 31 per cent when compared to N148 per litre being charged at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL depots.

Independent marketers that patronise the private depots sell the product at over N220 per litre, while the major oil marketers sell at N170 per litre at their filling stations. Checks by Vanguard showed that many filling stations across the country were shut and the ones with stock continued to sell the product to motorists and other parties at far over the official price, while the ones selling for below N200 had long queues.

Yes this really a major issue for the country and even my place now sef to get fuel buy na very serious issue. This fuel scarcity problems na one of the issues wey our politicians dem just dey overlook, at least you fit try see am for 270 buy. for my Area here na so so black market retailers na dey sell fuel for road side with the price of about 350+ per liter.
Me i just feel say this bunkery business too dey affect the fuel price because when this bunkery cookers dey always temper with the oil pipeline, dem dey suck and divert this oil go other places and this dey cause some shortage of oil for the country somehow and sometimes the pipeline sef fit burst resulting to serious oil spillage and the rest. But the funny thing be say even this bunkery wey dem stop sef don make fuel and other petroleum products scarce because i fit recall many times wey i don see this fuel station tankers too wey dey buy bunkery fuel and kerosene wey dem dey later sell to us say na better products them. So this na serious issue and government need to do something about am

It's a pity that a country blessed with crude oil could be facing the situation we found ourselves in Nigeria with regard to the fuel of all classes. Particularly, the petrol as @CryptopreneurBrainboss put the figure at N215+ per litre, but specifically in my neighbourhood, the private stations are selling it at N300 per litre. This is preposterous! It started like a play with a country that is being ruled by corrupt and selfish leaders. I don't know what happened to our refineries that no one is talking about it.

Is it that Nigeria as a country could not build new functional refineries from the scratch, let alone not have the capacity to revitalize the old ones? This always baffles me, and I hope God will deliver us one day.

No be playing o bro. When I dey see #215 per litre for the OP, I con dey wonder say no be the same country we dey abi the petrol station dey set prices base on zone. Your own high small shah, na #260 per litre I buy the last time and that na early this month. Normally I jst carry previous pice for mind enter the fuel station. Tell them to put x amount way suppose full my rubber normally. Omo, I look my rubber, e con be like say I still dey short of 10litres. Omo dis scarcity na for everywhere for this country oo. I been travel recently and all the three states wey I pass through na so so fuel queue you go dey see everywhere oo. For my state, some fueling stations dey sell for N195 per litre, na d lowest you fit get am be that because even the NNPC mega station there na still N195 per litre. While most of the fueling stations there are selling close to N300 and some more than that, those kind places no dey get queue sha.

Wetin dey bother me always na why is it always like this at the end of every year, a country blessed with abundant fuel and there’s no enough fuel to supply to its citizens and a sudden rapid increase in the price of fuel. Sometimes, I feel maybe this marketers are just keeping the fuel deliberately to make it scarce so that the price will increase and they’ll cover up for all their losses for the year. Personally, I go let us know say I dom dey master energy for PH for 7 days now dey wait for the turn but I never fit load fuel even after I pay additional 100k wey (NUPENG) charge just for you to pack tanker inside depot still no way for me because of the plenty tanker wey dey wait make dem attend to dem also. Today I was thinking that fuel subsidy would have been removed in Goodluck's time because at that time fuel price #97 per liter so if they removed it by then when fuel price was very low, now fuel price would have #150. As I just reach house I just say make I come table my experience again for this thread, first few days back I get my own for N330 but today na N290 for filling stations wey dey my side. The thing is, oil marketers have been the problem of Nigeria's upstream petroleum sector, ever since its inception, the government is just a victim just like the citizens who suffered from various impacts of this unlawful practice of oil marketers just for their corrupt intentions as their aided by government officials who cooperate with the marketers to steal from government fuel subsidy is their tools to take from government and price increase is their means of robbing citizens and to achieve that.

Petrol May Hit N800/Litre On Subsidy Removal – Marketers

As the scarcity of the Premium of Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, continued on Sunday, oil marketers have stated that the cost of the commodity would cross N800/litre once subsidy on PMS is removed.

Industry operators had repeatedly stated that the high cost of subsidy on petrol was a burden on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and was contributory to the prolonged crisis in the downstream oil sector. NNPC is the sole importer of petrol into Nigeria.

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, recently suggested that the government should gradually withdraw subsidy on PMS, stressing that the budgetary allocation for subsidy would end in June.

But oil marketers told our correspondent that while it could be advisable to remove subsidy, Nigerians should know that the cost of petrol could cross N800/litre once the commodity was no longer subsidised.

They urged the Federal Government to ensure that all the necessary measures and infrastructure to ensure a less stressful subsidy removal regime were put in place before implementing the decision.

“If the government fails to take the appropriate measures, and they say they want to remove fuel subsidy, the situation will be worse than this, the masses will suffer. How can you remove subsidy and you don’t have this product (petrol),” the Secretary, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Abuja-Suleja, Mohammed Shuaibu, stated.

He added, “If the government removes subsidy, where is the product? If you are removing subsidy, maybe by that time, the way diesel is sold at between N800 – N900/litre, we could be buying petrol at N800/litre, if not more than that.

“This is because the product will be scarce, even from the government cycle. So the government should tell Nigerians the truth about this fuel supply crisis. It is not a problem caused by marketers.”

Shuaibu said oil marketers were ready to sell, stressing that when marketers got products a few weeks ago, the queues disappeared.

“But as it is today, you have black marketers everywhere selling with jerrycans and you will ask, where are the security agencies and the regulators?” he asked.

The IPMAN official added, “By tomorrow they will claim that it is the fault of the marketers. How? We are businessmen and every businessman wants to make a profit. You know the law of supply and demand. When the product is scarce, prices will rise, and vice versa.”

According to FG, so the high cost running fuel subsidy na em the contribute to the prolonged crisis for the oil sector and they refuse to build our own refinery since they already know that.

This morning product was sold at #300 and last week I saw on one of the dailies that the federal government has reduced or approved the new pump price to #185. How come they are still selling above that pump price. Anyways, private stations are doing there own while the federal government are doing there's.

Today I was thinking that fuel subsidy would have been removed in Goodluck's time because at that time fuel price #97 per liter so if they removed it by then when fuel price was very low, now fuel price would have #150. I like your calculation but make you know say no time weh them take comot the subsidy weh Nigerians no go complain. No be the complaint self make them no remove again but na because the leaders never get sense on how to do am. Nigerians go complain for everything but go keep quiet after small time.  I still believe that we're having this crazy thing happening again and again, the annoying part is what ever goes up in Nigeria it I'll only take the intervention of God to bring that thing down if not it rather be going up. Last time I heard prize of fuel has gone down to #200 and something and I was happy that transport fare will go down only to hear something different later on. Bro... I have thought about this too. Aside being sick and old, Tinubu is one of the most corrupt politician in Nigeria. The guy just hold Lagos ransom, put him people for big positions wey dey monitor and control lagos resources back to him even when he's no more governing. Buhari knows this and him go don reason am say if this guy fit do this kind thing to Lagos imagine wetin him go to Nigeria if him be president.
