I was in the NBA forum and the subject of lottery numbers came up and I didn't want to hijack that forum and didn't see anything lottery related. The discussion came up that numbers are random and there isn't anyway to improve your chances to win and I disagreed.  I believe you can study historical data, patterns and certain numbers follow and hit after certain numbers come out as winners.   I would love to discuss theory with anyone who understands this and have any theories of their own.

You can perform any statistical analysis on that (implying you can find the whole history of numbers drawn for an specific lottery), but I believe that won't impact your chances to predict the outcome in any significant way, assuming the numbers are actually random and the lottery is not rigged at all. I agree with you both yes each draw there is the same number of chances for any combination of numbers to come out since they are random.  I just think it's fascinating that some number combinations will fall with the exact number on the same date 1 year later on the same day.  Also there have been cases of numbers falling to match the same date of the draw. 

I prefer draws that have balls to me that is truly random.  When I watch a program and they show computer generated numbers to me it just leaves too much to be disputed that nothing is amiss even though there are auditors, compliance etc.

I understand it is luck but I have won my fair share of numbers from dreams of numbers that appeared the same day after the dream so even though the numbers are random sometimes there are some things in life that just can't be scientifically explained away.

Let's take the case of the philippine controversial numbers that come out in a lottery where there were over 400 winners
Share of the top prize with the winning numbers 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, and 54 – all multiples of nine, majorities of them are interviewed and they all said that numbers all multiples by nines did not come from statistical analysis some say they dreamed it, some said were taking care of numbers ever since because it's their lucky numbers and some say it's random they just found out that all numbers are multiples of nine after they check their ticker before or after they won.
You can hardly find lottery winners that accurately predicted the numbers that will come out, the majority are random, or its their lucky numbers.

We use the same technology for our weekly state lottery here where I live,the first price ranges from 10.000 dollars up to 150.000 dollars depending on the number of tickets that are sold.It is a difficult lottery in my opinion 15 out of 90 balls needed to find correctly to win the first prize,I am astonished at every week there is someone who wins it and there is no week without winners.

thanks for your answers but i was talking more in line with cash 2, cash 3, cash 4, cash 5 numbers where the odds are much more obtainable than a mega jackpot lottery where you have a better chance of winning.

my initial inquiry in the subject was asking for info on tips, theories on how to win these types of lotteries where you have a much better increased chance of odds.  The best odds you have with a mega jackpot comes from going from buying 1 ticket as compared to not having any tickets at all bought which is what I do for these types of mega lotteries and i rarely play them.

however i win regularly on cash 4 numbers based on past historical data and just plain luck.   i'm really not that interested in this thread in mega lotteries since i am also of the opinion buying more than 1 mega lottery ticket is a waste of time and money.

My theory is that if you present a lot of numbers in front of a group of people, most of them will choose numbers that have some meaning for them: their birthday, the year they got married, the date of the birth of their child, etc. It is just matter of time before people who claimed to have won that way appears.

I am inclined to believe in the laws of probabilities, do you have any idea how many people participate in that specific lottery or how many tickets are sold?
That data, together with the number of balls and digits should be enough for you to calculate of chances of someone winning each week.

i agree that is why i don't invest money in mega jackpots.  i buy 1 ticket since that is the only way to increase your odds by having a chance as compared to no chance.

i was talking about smaller cash 3 and cash 4 lotteries where the odds are lower you can do things to increase your odds.  especially if odds are 1 in 999 for a cash 3 draw.  for mega jackpots you have a better chance of finding your car keys in a dark room in a hidden box among 2 millions boxes and picking it with 1 guess.  it is virtually impossible which is why i don't invest in mega jackpots.

Thank you for verifying what I was trying to say when you have smaller lotteries where there are lower odds you can use historical data to help you guess what the number potentially may be. The research isn't 100% but does increase your chances if you know what the patterns are of course they are random but with smaller games with lower odds it can be done.

Everyone so far is getting caught up on the mega lotteries and the impossibility of winning them.  This is already known and not disputed.  It appears you are someone that actually plays the smaller lotteries and you understand.  There have been responses from some who do not play smaller lotteries so of course they wouldn't understand.

In my country, there are lots of lottery gambling enthusiasts, but on average they bet the lottery directly at a place or house, and only a few bet on online sites.
They are lottery enthusiasts who have a special way or trick to be able to get this lucky number.
Some use day calculations and some even calculate it using a certain formula in which there are numbers that have been issued a few days ago.
However, I was amazed by the calculations or formula, almost every bet they could guess the numbers that actually came out that day.

I've read a trivia about a Math that has beat the system of lottery and won not just once but IIRC that's for multiple times. I'm not sure if it was her, Joan R. Ginther and according to wikipedia she has won the lottery on four occassions.

Well, I have experiencial knowledge of what you are discussing about, over here in my country, we have alot of them who carry big newspapers-like sheets of paper and call themselves forecasters.

This sheets of paper usually contain a very long list of lottery winning numbers usually going as far back as 5 years ago to current date, they believe looking and studying this numbers could help them forecast which numbers are likely to emerge as the winning numbers in today's lottery 😁.

Though the way this people go about this things make it look serious and real, but personally, I've never believed in such, I've never believed that studying previous winning numbers in the lottery could help one predict or stand a better chance at winning the lottery of today, except the lottery is rigged.

But getting the numbers that are predicted to come out is not easy because maybe there will be other calculations needed and I don't think gamblers who understand that will not tell other people about it. They will only give some numbers that are likely to come out but do not tell how they can get the numbers. But most people will collect the numbers from the previous lottery and recalculate or make a list of the numbers that are predicted to come out. But I didn't do much math on the numbers and just made a random guess. After all, I was just having fun buying some tickets and waiting for it

Do you have data that can validate your belief, if you cannot back it up with proven data don't recommend but if you want to prove it yourself, then do make a study out of it, but I assure you there's no proven data that can prove that you can accurately predict the winning numbers, you could be wasting your time, but proceed at your own will, maybe you will discover along the way, if the drawing is fair and beyond reasonable doubts, everything is random and all numbers gave an equal chance of getting drawn, here in our country all balls that with numbers on it for the drawing are weighted and there are observant to see everything is done fair.

It's funny to see this very statement of yours, because if really there was any way to study historical data, patterns and certain numbers win a lottery thrown at random, then mathematicians or statistician would have been the most richest people in the world today, or the set with the most lottery winning history, and not ordinary people just like you and I. Because on this very motion, I strongly stand behind what those people on the NBA forum said that in lottery, there is no formula to improving your chances of winning, than buying more lottery ticket over and over again, because apart from that.
