This has probably been one of the luckiest signings any sport as seen from the perspective of the player. He has been impressive during that one year when they won the Champions League and he literally scored every single game and it was unbelievable at some point. I agree that he deserved to win the Ballon d'Or in 2022, but apart from that season he was two levels below his best. Don't get me wrong here, but I can't remember one reason in which he reached the level he reached in 2021/22 and I acknowledge this as it was outrageous. If he didn't play a season like that, I doubt he would have ever been in a position to sign this insane contract. He was still good and he scored his goals, but it wasn't like the year before. You could see how he was less thrilled and the body language changed and if I remember correctly, he got injured.

Wether we like to admit it or not, it doesn't change the fact that Karim Benzema had an incredible performance during the 2021/22 season that he helped Real Madrid to win the UEFA Champions League competition which was also the reason why he won the Balon D'or award and anybody who watched most of his performances then will agree to the fact that he deserved every personal accolade he got as of that time.

Since he moved to the Saudi Arabia League last summer, he's not been able to replicate his impressive goalscoring form during his time at Real Madrid in his current club Al Ittihad and just earlier this year, there were reports that he's not happy in his current club and was even pushing for a move away from the the club. But one thing that's obviously been happening since his reported fallout with the club is that he's been receiving his his wages at the club. Personally, I think the club is on the losing side and if I'm to advise them, I'll tell the club management to let go of him do they can sign other European players to replace him

The idea about getting someone like Benzema is mainly because they wanted viewership and fans, not goals. Benzema scoring would mean a lot more views and followers of course, but doesn't mean that it's a must. This dude won the ballon d'or just a few years ago, he is one of the most recent winners, and that means they should be getting a lot of new fans thanks to him being at the club. I would just say, look at their clubs instagram follower numbers before him and after him.

These type of things matter because the king decided to make the league be followed a lot more on the long run, and he is willing to spend billions to make this a reality. Benzema was just part of that, he is for branding reasons, not so that he would score, great if he does but no problem if he doesn't.
