investing in ethereum is definitely safer than the other coin mainly because it's labeled as number 1 coin not for nothing, it's because it has the liquidity that you won't worry about withdrawing your investments, moreover it's safer than the other alts in general but of course this comes with disadvantage that is ethereum is already quite expensive enough that with smaller capital you would hardly score any meaningful increase in value.

Number 1 because of the price or its features? imo it lacks the features needed to be a main stay in cryptocurrencies. Btc has the best features and Monero probably has the next best because their features are for a different type of person that btc cannot offer. Everything that eth offers can be achieved with btc and will probably be in its shadow forever. Of course eth has unique features but I do not think they are a big enough difference to benefit people enough to keep it alive. Important features that offer value are much better then having something that has features just to be different.

Basically Ethereum is one of the best altcoins and that is without a doubt,
the opportunity to overtake Bitcoin I think will always be Ethereum but again it's not easy and if it does it doesn't look like it will be anytime soon,

   Ethereum is the second largest cryptocurrency by its market cap which makes it a really volatile investment. You can go for it if you're financially able and have a high risk tolerance otherwise you can consider other altcoins as it isn't such a good thing to limit yourself to only one particular altcoins whereas there are many others you can explore and invest in. I'd suggest CORE which essentially is the native token of core DAO; an L1 EVM compatible blockchain which ensures scalability, decentralization and security but nobody knows its exact price value at the moment. But the features of CORE makes it a good alt to look at.

Ethereum for many years stay second to bitcoin as the most valuable cryptocurrency so I feel safe holding and accumulating it as well. Since I started investing in crypto, there is no other coin that performed solidly in the top ranking. There was a time when Ripple and Ethereum were racing for second place. Now Ripple is only valued at 10% of Ethereum's worth. I always look at Ethereum and BNB as the second and third safest coins in crypto although far from bitcoin.
