I'm a new forum member and just recently got my hands on some Bitcoins. I think my first experience was pretty typical; I went to the Bitcoin Faucet and got 0.05 BTC sent to my wallet. It was great!

I'm assuming most of the forum members here have visited the Faucet and received a "drip" at some point, but I was wondering what do people typically do with their Faucet BTC afterwards? Please vote and feel free to share your experience here.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

The first thing I did was make a test transaction with a friend to see BTC in action.   Smiley

I realized I left out an option. I just added, "Exchanged it for another currency".

This got me thinking so I had to go and check, and there that first 0.05 BTC transaction was, now with ~35000 confirmations.  Looks like I sent it back and forth to myself in 0.01 BTC increments several times over while testing the darts script and then it got given out to someone who won back when the max bet was 0.1.  Kind of interesting to trace its path since then, but not really all that informative as to what it has been used for (given the pseudoanonymous nature of bitcoin addresses).

I have a plan, which if I'll implement correctly will be the best way to spend your Faucet BTC.
For now I'll keep it a secret Smiley

Uh oh.. Now I feel kind of bad. I kept it, and now it's at mtgox.com! Shocked I promise that when I get some more coins from my pooled mining effort, I will pay the Faucet back 150%, ie 0.15bitcoins. Not much, but if everyone did it, he'd be loaded. Smiley First of all I did ask for those 0.05 bitcoins to just test the system and see for myself that the transfer actually worked. It did, and very well so, I guess this would be something most people would be interested in trying, ans as such The Faucet is providing a great feature to the community. I am afraid that his pool of bitcoins is not indefinite, so everybody that has recieved something from him should really give it back, and perhaps donate a bit too to keep the good cause going.

Yes, it's possible to make a poll where users can vote multiple times. I limited everyone to 1 vote for this poll, and unfortunately I don't think I can edit the poll to allow more votes per user (please inform me if I'm wrong).

I guess you fall into the "Something else" category. What did you do with your Faucet BTC?

I never used the Faucet. I figured someone else needed the 0.05 BTC more than me. Smiley

I sent a bit back to the faucet, another bit i donated somewhere i forgot, and i tested sending money to myself (but stupidly forgot to disable the transfer fee and someone out there got 0.01 BTC i didn't intended to spend at the time)

I would have done more, but just as i was starting to get into the Bitcoin thing my mobo went down and i don't have the wallet backuped somewhere yet, i'll be buying some replacement parts soon and have the HDD with my wallet running again as soon as i can)

As of this posting, 52 users have participated in the poll. Of those 52, 20 sent their BTC back to the Faucet. It looks like people have done a lot of different things with just 0.05 BTC. I think it's clear that the Faucet is definitely a positive first step into the Bitcoin world.

That said, it looks like there's only 0.02 BTC in the Faucet right now. If you've been putting off making a donation, maybe now is the time to get on it (15VjRaDX9zpbA8LVnbrCAFzrVzN7ixHNsC)!

Thanks to everyone who participated!

I gave .10BTC because I couldn't call .05 a "donation". Giving back your bit-nickel is just setting the score to 0.
