This two device types you mentioned, Pad and VR, are sure good, and are the immediate alternative to a desktop computer or laptop, but still, this two devices cant still offer the kind of convenience smart phones offer, with a smart phone, you can gamble any where, at home, on the go, even inside a forest, as long as you have an internet connection.
But Pad or VR need you to be at the comfort of your home to use them..
Smart phones still beat this two when we put convenience first in the debate.

I greatly agree that a tablet is way better than a mobile phone in terms of gaming and image sizes especially if we are into details.

I am strongly in favour of desktop applications or even web based, as I think that phones are usually to small and I do not really trust much the apps, but there seems to be many people who would rather use their phone. Is that because they do not have access to a desktop computer? It may also be a regional issue, the same as people that do not use a browser?

The debate here is about casinos I believe and not video games technically because phone can't compete with laptops/desktop when it comes to computer gaming as they're the idea devices to be used for such activities but if we're talking about placing of bets on casino sites etc then it has to be phone. from the several replies that have quoted my reply, I have concluded that people will use desktops or phones when gambling according to the needs and convenience they will get.
I mean, when someone works in an office he also holds a computer while working and when he comes home, he wants to gamble but lies on the bed using a phone. even though he has a computer but gambling using a computer cannot be used while lying down. so that person is more comfortable using a phone to gamble when they are tired all day at work and want to gamble while comforting themselves in bed using a phone.

but there is also someone who works in the office all day without holding a computer after work wants to entertain himself gambling using a computer with a bigger screen. because at work this person does not use a computer and when there is a computer at home he wants to have fun using a bigger screen.

Yeah just like you said people actually spend more time with their phones and i suppose am also among this group of person. I would call my self a phone addict, i normally do all my bet stuffs with my mobile phone. Its way more convenient for me but that's from my personal view i guess,  with my mobile phone i can easily just log in to my bet account no matter where i am just as certain there is internet connection available but can't do that with the desktop. But i  still use my desktop but on very few occasions when its comes to playing of games.

Mobile is only secondary for me, when I'm at home, I make sure that I'm using my desktop because it's more convenient to use and of course, you will get the best experience. With a big screen and a fast internet connection, I can enjoy gambling more since I love to bet on sports, so I can do multiscreen, betting while watching the game live.

Can't agree more. Gamblers will choose basing on their preferences and their current situation. After all, there are really external factors when it comes to our decision making in life. Some gamblers prefer to have and use a desktop over a mobile phone because of functionality like you said, since it has a wider screen coverage compare to a phone or even tablet/ipad. Some games can also only be played using a PC so that's an additional factor why most of the players I know personally are also using desktop more often.

Portability is the edge of the mobile phone that laptop can also compete, except of course if you intend to use it in public space. Both desktop and mobile device has their pros and cons which you just have to weigh if you want to get your money's worth.

I guess I use desktop (laptop actually) to gamble with big amounts, place sports bets, and I use mobile to play some random slots games or when I am bored. I think I've used several times only my mobile to place sports bet, when I accidentally forgotten I was going to place it In other scenarios, mobile phone isnt suitable for sports betting. Well, that is exactly what I thought, there is no need to compare them, both devices are useful to us and each of us has a preference for which to use. There is a mobile phone that has a big screen too that can justify you when you are gambling, sports betting there is no need to have a big screen, all you have to do is to place a bet and exit the casino, and come back later when there is a result. All devices are useful but the one that is mostly used by gamblers is mobile. Why is mobile more used by gamblers? Because you can easily access any gambling platform online at any local even with the smallest data. I don't have to go get my laptop before I can make some bets that is why many of the gambling platform I use have there own app you can find on app store.
