How can old people use bitcoin?

The elderly have always been a prime target for scams. Credit cards, mobile payment, internet banking, online shopping, social media ... are all new technologies, and all come with their own risks. Scammers will always try to find new ways to trick their victims into handing over their money. The elderly are particularly vulnerable because they tend to be less tech-savvy than younger people. They are also more trusting and tend to believe what they see, rather than thinking about it logically. This makes them easier targets for scammers who use this as an advantage in order to take advantage of them.

However, I don't consider Bitcoin to be special in this regard. Bitcoin is just another new technology that comes with its own risks. The same principles apply: if you do not understand how something works, you should not use it until you do.

Full adoption of bitcoin by the global community will take time, maybe more than a decade. Therefore, when (if) full adoption of bitcoin by the community around the world occurs, those who understand it all, that is, the current generation, will be considered older people.

Agreed, the current generation who adopted bitcoin will be old and wise. A decade is still a very short time for full adoption maybe 20 years or more for people to adopt bitcoin globally.

Old human beings are the first to emerge as inclined to scams if adoptions comes around, and I suppose like crypto is a spectacular way for these guys to get screwed.

There are old people use bitcoin and they prove that if someones willing to learn about it they can make it. So if full adoption of bitcoin will happen for sure these old generation can also adopt the changes. Maybe they can fall from scam but everyone can learn a lesson to be more careful and aware about risk for not lossing it again. For now bitcoin need deep learnings but for sure all people can cope up with this if there's legal adoption will happen.

your question is really interesting, and i have to admit i never wondered about it! obviously I believe that the adoption does not happen overnight but it will be much, much longer as a transition, many elderly people will no longer be in this world, and when the adoption has been done I believe that our children and grandchildren will benefit of bitcoins for real.

Adaptation of bitcoin lies on how smart you are to understand the computer age we are in today.
Having bitcoin known to elderly people it all depends on the age and how smart the person is to learn how to use it.
Bitcoin is not initially for everyone else but partially I will say if you are smart enough to crap it the you are good to go.
And it all depends on the old peron is educationally upright or educationally down to the usage of bitcoin.

Global adoption will take time to happen. The old people today might not use Bitcoin at all for various reasons.

At the same time, global adoption will happen, but not all of the people will have an opportunity to have an access to Bitcoin and that might include those old people out there. Aside from them, those who doesn't have any smartphone or doesn't know how to use smartphone might also be the ones who will not get an access to it. Those not-so-techy people as well might prefer not using Bitcoin as well because they might have a hard time learning or using it.

TBH, it would be better for old people not to use Bitcoin at all unless they learn how to use it when they are still at their 20's or 30's (future). On the other hand, if an old guy really wants to learn the basics of Bitcoin such as sending, receiving and storing then we need more patience to teach him/her.

Adoption of bitcoins will not eliminate other means of payment for business automatically, and adoption of bitcoin does not also mean that everyone must begin using it immediately. When bitcoins become globally accepted, adoption will come on a personal scale for everyone. It will be accepted for use, but it will take people to personally adopt bitcoin as their preferred payment option.

The old people presently, assuming that its acceptance happen soon while they are still alive and we have not transitioned into an age where the old people have knowledge of technology, will have a choice and may not easily choose to start using bitcoins immediately, but still prefer the fiat they are used to. It will take a while for the old people to understand it and even decide to choose it for use.

Yes, that's right. Many parents are the target of fraud because they don't really know about technology. When there is an issue of fraud among people who don't understand bitcoin technology, the government should advertise it massively in the mass media, so as to limit victims.

We cannot hold back the pace of technology, what is important now is education. Don't blame the technology, blame the unscrupulous people who make technological developments with the intention of deceiving parents.

How is possible the fraudster can distinguish between young people and old people in the first place? Bitcoin is pseudonymous which mean you can only know the address, transaction, time and amount of the Bitcoin, but you have no way to know who's own the address. It would be different if the old people is stupid enough for revealing his identity like "this is me bla bla a father of 3 sons, this is my Bitcoin address thank you".

After all there's no proof if the old people are getting scammed more than young people or the fraudster only targeting old people.

There will always be scams and fraud, whether for the old or the elegant. The eradication of scamming and defrauding is inevitable; it can only be reduced by creating awareness and informing the people. Everyone who has educational knowledge and can read and write is entitled to knowing and practicing Bitcoin. I'm a little confused, what age is the old age category here? I once read that according to Adolescent health in the South-East Asia Region the young age is youth covering the age range of 10-24 years. Since I'm in Asia I think the majority of Bitcoin users in my country are under the old age category. Because I feel that my country is a developing country. Maybe old age who are more than 50 years old may not be familiar with technology and crypto. In fact, many of my friends in the crypto world are less than 50 years old.

So I think old age have to master the internet before they can master crypto. But I doubt in old age they use crypto, although there it is only a small part. In fact I think the most Bitcoin users are in the age range of 20-35 years. IMO

This is similar to when people claimed that the internet was not for elderly people at its inception. Older individuals will not be able to use bitcoin, but only those who are not very interested in learning about it. Online shopping and selling grow its sales yearly and is becoming increasingly common these days. Anyhow, there will always be fiat as an alternative if bitcoin becomes a common currency. Additionally, the next generation of elderly individuals are prepared for bitcoin adoption, which may occur within the next ten to twenty years.

I thought the young were the ones getting scammed. They seem to rush into Bitcoin, and use speculative gearing in the hope of making a fortune. It seems that they are creating fortunes, but for the older scammers, and not the vulnerable young who jump in without understanding the basics.

Man is an animal who is able to adapt himself to all situations. Nowadays people are familiarizing themselves with new technologies. When there was no smartphone in the world, people did not know much about smartphones.  But ever since the smartphone became available in the world, people have established their relationship with the smartphone very well. We can see that currently Bitcoin has become a very popular digital currency.  So people will always want to make good use of good things.  Maybe the old people who are there will find it a little difficult to use bitcoin at first but I believe they will adapt themselves.

Scams are never going to go away. I think the best path for older people will be some sort of joint custody to decentralize trust and use time locks to create a sort of payment schedule to receive payments to their local wallet for spending.

I envision something like receiving a social security check now but with bitcoin using a time lock smart contract made easy by a joint custody solution like Casa or Nunchuk.

Also, the recent bolt card from CoinCorner makes spending almost the same user interface as old people already use today and there are substantial efforts to make the entire process open source so that anyone can make their own cards.

It is quite difficult to educate the old folks on anything tech, mostly as regards financial transactions. They believe in the old fiat system and for those who already know how to do normal online transactions, they worry too much about scammers or hackers stealing their money.
Imagine what they would say if told about Bitcoin, and then go on to explain how the system is decentralized and if your money is lost, it is lost. They would simply loose interest.

Bitcoin is not for everyone to use even though it has no age limit or preference of use. The use of it by older people will only cause more harm to them by easily exposing their security to scammers because of the insufficient or no knowledge they’ve about the digital currency world. Bitcoin is here to serve as alternative to fiat currency but not to completely replace its use. Older people can still stick to their fiat and continue using it while those that are acquainted to digital currency and its security can utilize its use.

Bitcoin isn't meant for everyone to HODL or have in stock personally; cus even when it was cheaper to get, people had different reasons NOT to HODL 'em; some would've been saying that's a major SCAM, some would've been saying it's not gonna survive the next series, some would even think since it's free with some strenuous technical practices, they shouldn't be interested in something that'll end up engaging Thier whole time to understand just yet, talk more of earning from it.
So, in my opinion, I don't think they'll be a time that Bitcoin would be made too simple enough to meet the criterion of understanding for lower class grannies. They'll simply have to step up to learn if they wish to adapt to the modern world.

We should not judge them based on their age, if they can use the internet they can adopt Cryptocurrency and Bitcoin, the industry has evolved to make it easier for everyone to trade Bitcoin, just as the internet has evolved so everyone on this planet can use it anywhere and at anytime.
I have a hard time understanding what bitcoin was when I was starting out but the abundance of tutorials and tools to use to buy, sell, and Hold Bitcoin.
