It is nice they took the decision in extending the old naira note collection because many Nigerians are yet to swap the old note for the new ones even the banks that is our financial institution can not boast of having enough of the new naira note in their possession so tell me how do they want Nigerians to cope when the old note is still very much in circulation. ATM machines are still dispensing old notes, some banks went as far as shorting down their ATM machines as a result of unavailability of the new naira note. The village traders, transporters etc how would they cope with this attitude of banks note having enough of the new notes. The federal government are glamoring for digitalization wen the Nigeria economy is not yet ripe for what they intend to do.

CBN extend deadline for old naira note till February 10.

Extending the deadline, Emefiele said, “Based on the foregoing, we have sought and obtained Mr President’s approval for the following: a 10-day extension of the deadline from January 31, 2023, to February 10, 2023; to allow for collection of more old notes legitimately held by  Nigerians and  achieve more success in cash swap in our rural communities after which all old notes outside the CBN loses their Legal Tender Status.

  Good news indeed.
But let me clarify u this is politics both the CBN governor and Mr president know what they are doing, we are facing a lot of things and what they know is to change currency. They just want to confuse citizens most especially in this coming election.

Hopefully by the new deadline date as given by the CBN  every Nigerian both in the local communities and cities would have been able to return back all old notes in their possession. It should be pertinent to note that it's not only to extend the deadline date but the CBN should also make sure the new note spread round the nooks and crannies of the country reaching to the hands of the average Nigerian.
Cause the scarcity of the new naira note is really creating an untold hardship to Nigerians both old and young.

Even if the deadline elapses, the constitution of Nigeria according to reports I heard over the news, is that anyone still in possession of the old notes as at the expiry date would only be faced with the impossibility of spending the cash for local, primary or secondary purchases/expenses, but they can still go the banks and exchange such notes or pay into their account.
The new notes as at today is beginning to be more in circulation and with hopes of being sufficient before the weekend comes.

I just feel this deadline date won't really remove the old naira notes, they should just allow the two co-exist untill the old note vanishes, the same way they did with the old 20naira, 30naira, 50naira and 200naiara. If the pattern or method is adopted then there won't be any scarcity of naira notes, because the two will be in use and once a bank gets the old note they don't release it again, with that give it 5months and you won't see the old currencies again.

There is no deadline again, according to the CBN governor, the old Bank Naira note can be deposited to the commercial Banks at any time and no bank will give the old note after the deadline. But you can still use it to buy something and once enter bank it will not come back again.
At least the young can stand long to collect the 20k  on the ATM line a day but the old is the major problem. CBN and FG lack adequate plan for the sustain development.

The extension is good, but for me I would have suggested that they should just forget about deadline let it be going gradually process, because the problem is not that people refuse to return the old naira note, rather the new naira note is not in circulation, even up till now some people are still saying that they have not seen the new naira note with the two eyes and some are saying that they have seen it in someone else hand but have received it as their own, I begin to wondering why it's like that, does it mean that the new naira note are not enough for the mases for exchange with the old naira note or they're hiding it, please my able governor CBN, Godwin emefele and the entire FG should forget about deadline until they know that the new naira note are in circulation then the deadline can be impose then, but for now February 10,is here and I have not seen any positive change ooh..
