I want to ask a question. And I need serious answer from this forum, and my question is WHY DOES A GAMBLER DON'T HAVE A SAVINGS.
In my country (Nigeria) there are many gamblers who don't have savings and it isn't help matters at all. Most of these gamblers can't afford for there families but they can afford money they will use to gamble. So why are they not having savings that they can use to help there families in time of lack. Like they said, we save money so money can save us tomorrow. But these gamblers doesn't know that.

Hmmm, in my own perspective and based on other people I have conversation they believe that if they are going to save money there will be a bad luck that might happen possible that a family of them will hospitalized or get sick something like that they prefer not to save too much. But for some , they don't save because they put too much money in gambling rather than for their future.

Maybe it's just the OP's OPINION or there are some people he knows having issues about not having savings for the family and always having money to gamble with.

It cannot be said with certainty what all gamblers do. There are some gamblers who may be able to take good care of their families,
but there are others who are not.

Gambling can affect a person's financial spending and cause financial problems, thus affecting their ability to take care of their family.
Moreover, if a person shows signs of gambling addiction, it can affect their relationship with their family and social circle.

This is a bad mindset and they only think of themself. They don't really care what will happen to their family and only their happiness. I think that this kind of mindset needs to take care of themself or seek support from relatives or family members that can help overcome the addiction since it will surely destroy life once cannot control spending the money without a proper plan or doesn't know how to manage it.

I know that gambling is very addictive but we really need to have the right execution before spending a bunch of money by setting a limit on the budget to avoid losing all of it.

Perhaps because they are not interested in anything else except gambling, that's the whole answer.Believe me,this behavior will be before the first major problems, when money will be needed and they will not be.People learn from their mistakes (not all of them, of course), but they learn.Your task is to provide for yourself first of all,do not think about others.The game should be fun in the first place, and not cause problems.Remember this.

Though not all gamblers are like these but most of the gamblers (me included) don't save for the future as they won't gamble anymore if that is the thinking of a person that gambles. In doesn't happen only in Nigeria but mostly on developing countries where the population are dominantly poor.

But as we aged, we learned from our past mistakes due to gambling and because of that we tend to become more of a responsible gambler and not gamble everything that we have as if there is no more tomorrow.

And with age, we become wiser in our actions and if we see that gambling can carry or provide a big risk of becoming addicted, we will be more careful in gambling and not use a lot of money to gamble. Apart from that, we can also limit the amount of money we use for gambling, and maybe our experience says that gambling is just as necessary. And when we get older, we have to think about saving to prepare for our old age so there won't be any problems later.

Age doesn’t matter because there’s a gambler addict in any ages. It depends on how much exposure you’ve got on gambling for you to become addicted. I knew a lot of old people that still addicted in gambling without savings. They grow doing gambling that’s why they keep doing it as long as they still have money to play.

Actually those people on the old age is prone to addiction because they hold their own money coming from salary which means they can only gamble secretly anytime once they got their funds.

People get curious about gambling and they try it.
Got a few wins and they got addicted into it already.
They're willing to spend time and money just to do what they want to do and in this case, it's gambling.
They lost and instead of them stopping, they will find a way to have money to be used in gambling.
The cycle keeps on and on and on.

An addicted gambler will not have any savings at all. I don't want to generalize on this one since there I believe there are still some gamblers out there that still has savings even though they are gambling, but for most of the gamblers, they are willing to spend everything including their savings just to continue gambling.

This is what happens if a gambler doesn't have self-control. They can't control their urge of gambling and because of that, they will spend every cent that they have and that's the reason why they don't have any savings at all. Addicted gamblers don't save, but they gamble. One thing also is that, don't specify your country because it doesn't only happen in your country, but all over the world.

Not all gamblers don't have savings, who to sav money must be part of the gambler habit for him/her to be able to save money. Saving money is a practice which is done frequently. Any gambler that don't save money might be chasing his/her lost most time. If you take gambling as fun it helps a lot,just discipline yourself

I am use to saving some part of money from my monthly income,no matter how the spirit of gambling is tempting me to gamble with it,I just ignore the thought and think of something positive that I want to use my savings for,with this I do overcome that thought. Gambling without chasing your lost helps you to save your money.

Well, you should already have the answer to the question you asked. anyway, the answer is actually quite simple. but actually, you can sort it into several parts. why, because almost every member here has given their answer based on their own assumptions. on the other hand, I do not know exactly how the conditions in your country. but based on what you tell me, I assume that some of the gamblers you talk about in this thread don't have permanent jobs, or maybe they are unemployed, freelancers, and so on. well, because of that, they gamble and hope to get lucky by winning the lottery with fantastic prizes. in fact, they are lulled by their own dream of getting rich overnight. other supporting factors, the lack of education, insight and most importantly an understanding of gambling itself.

Maybe the story would be different, if you have a job and a steady income. you can save and set aside a budget for this one hobby. even so, this actually depends on how one defines gambling itself. Nonetheless, I agree with most of the members here. in most cases, gambling addicts, are used to having no savings.

There are still responsible gamblers who are mindful of their savings. They still know how to spend wisely and save for their future at the same time. Gamblers without saving are those who can't control their gambling activities and even use their supposed to be saved funds for gambling. They are the people who can't discipline themselves and flcus only on spending without thinking about their future.

Gamblers do know that the savings are important and it is important factor to have some sort of saving to help in times of crisis. But there are two problems due to which gamblers are unable to make a saving and are mostly on the losing site.

The gaming is a risky game and the probability of losing is usually  more than the probability of winning.
This means that with gambling income is not granted and therefore  one cannot relay on the gambling income to have a saving for their family.

Secondly even if gamblers are able to make some money on one day, they loses that money on the next day and due to this, they are never able to save money.

The answer to your question is pretty obvious that even you yourself can just answer it. If I ask you why do you think they don't have a saving? The answer is because they use all their money in gambling. I can prove this because I was once storing some small amounts of money on my wallet but each time I lose I feel pissed off and the first thing that I will do is to check each of my wallet if I have balances there and then I will deposit it all leaving me empty and feel depressed after.

It's funny if one will say that they can't afford to sustain his family but they can afford to gamble. If I am the wife or a child I will just abandon my father. That kind of father is not responsible in both gambling and their family.

Gamblers aren't the best people to turn to for financial advice. There's a reason a huge percentage of them burn through their winnings in a span of 5 years or so with little to no savings left from their prize money. As in the case with people in Nigeria, and correct me if I'm wrong with this. Your country is greatly impoverished and a large portion of your population has problems with residence and hunger. With that in mind you wouldn't really blame them for not being financially literate because let me tell you this, being financially literate is a privilege that only pays when you have extra money lying around, which is obviously not the case with these people, because if that is true they wouldn't even gamble in the first place. So for me, it's all a matter of circumstance and some by choice that led them to where they are now. We can't really blame them when you're constantly reminded that you need to eat the next day.

How do you expect a gambler to have savings?? When they would barely try as much as possible to keep the grind just to make some few bucks for themselves??
A gambler's mind set is always telling them to keep trying, " who knows if today's your lucky day*"? So they spare out any cash at hand, including their savings to gamble. They believe that one day, they'll tend to get back what they've been spending over time. But that doesn't actually mean that gamblers can't sustain their families, afterall you've never fed them for a single night before, have you??

For sure they are burning up huge amount or chunks of their savings or overall funds specially into those people who are really that addicted.This is why it is really be on huge problem
if ever you are that someone who arent that mindful in towards your finances specially when you do gamble.You would be snipping it out gradually into those funds you do have available

A gambler can have savings, a gambling addict likely will not have savings. You can place the occasional bet, knowing that it is only a small proportion of your net worth and decide that win or lose it will not impact on your desire to place any more bets.  Someone that is bad with money management and has picked up gambling as one of their habits, will likely be using gambling in desperation, hoping that they will turn one dollar into a million, but the odds are so against you it is just wasting money. Generally they will not understand the sheer mathematical probabilities that are against them and may hold on to false hopes, like thinking that one bet is attached to another, when they are totally separate, and the house doesn't "owe" you any kind of win for a streak of bad luck.

Gamblers will always have a hard time handling their finances, but if you’re responsible eventually you’ll have your savings intended for other purposes and not just for gambling alone. Too hard to tell if they have savings or none since its not our business anymore, my only concern is that if you don’t have money for gambling then don’t do it. Savings is not easy especially if you have a limited income and this applies to everyone even if you are not a gambler. This is the reason why I created a financial planning and a matrix so I can save some money while spending some into gambling occasionally.

This is so bad if know the reality like this, but indeed, this condition will happen in people with gambling addiction and without good financial conditions and management. But, I am sure that not all gamblers are like this, there are also some gamblers that have really good money management and are able to control their emotions and desire to gamble. That is why they will not be addicted to gambling and can monitor whether they must stop or continue earning good money gambling. But I really know also how an addicted gambler with bad financial conditions commonly will do that bad attitudes, habits, and also activities. Because they have been addicted to gambling and will do anything to be able to gamble. Additionally, they will always think that they will win and get money if they play once again and again, their curiosity, addition, and also high expectation to win will really drive them to do anything, including crimes.

Agreed, at any cost we should not spend the amount for our life needs or allocated for some specific purpose. I've shared my real life experience of using my emergency funds into gambling and the suffering I experienced. This needs to be a learning, though I'm not a compulsive gambler something drives me to give a try and end up losing everything. This is not good choice when you're not with excess money or savings that can help you if scenario turns worse.
