The first update for Passport Prime ^{since shipments to early‑bird customers began a few weeks ago} has now been released. Firmware v1.2.1 focuses primarily on updating KeyOS ^{Foundation developed from scratch specifically for this device}. The update  includes several relevant bug fixes that ^{according to official statement}  were "reported by early customers and listened to some of the feedback."

I use the envoy app as a hot wallet (not tied to any of the HW) the core is for cold storage and the prime currently I am using as a 2fa device atm.

Regarding 2FA on Prime, it is very limited compared with my YubiKey 5, since there is no support for FIDO2 or other authentication protocols on Prime.

Could you share your first impressions of your Prime? AFAIK, it cannot be initialized when not connected to Envoy, and this is the weak point at the moment.

the new 2.2.14 version of envoy has been released today!
this version improves the ios bluetooth connection, fixes several display issues with Passport Prime accounts and resolves some bugs in Magic Backup

currently I am not using at as a wallet of any sorts only for the 2fa at this point. my core and fe versions are used as wallets though more like cold storage as I am not spending from them. I do have an issue where I removed the fe from the envoy app and now cannot readd it - it appears they removed it. when attempting to add it, the fe page goes to the core page instead. I know I can still recover the wallet with the seed phrase but I do not like that it appears no longer supported by the envoy app.

Then why are you so attached to Envoy?

There are so many apps the fe can be paired with. Sparrow is one of them, and it allows you to connect to your own server rather than a server run by Foundation. The latter definitely undermines privacy to some extent.

I personally decided that using Envoy with my Core was the bad option and gave it up by my own choice.

I use a lot of different wallets so not connected to any one specific - this is just the issue I have with one wallet - does not mean I am "attached" to one specific wallet. This thread is about Foundation devices - I listed my issue with one. It makes sense to post it here.

I have the seed phrase and can obviously use many other wallets - the issue is with the FE and Envoy and should be addressed here and hopefully corrected.

It looks like we should soon expect the appearance of the first 3^rd party app on Passport Prime, since according to the recent official Foundation release, the Cake Wallet team has become “the first outside team shipping on KeyOS.” This made me recall a two‑year‑old hint from Monero Observer that quoted Cake Wallet saying: “Keeping crypto safe can be simple (and sexy!) […] This means best‑in‑class, open‑source Monero cold storage in 2025. We’ll also support Prime in Cake Wallet.”

So I assume that the first  3^rd party app implemented on Passport Prime will be Monero.

Sweet, looks quite similar to my collection too, now! I recently started testing my own Passport Prime, full old-school unboxing and review thread is coming once v1.3.0 is out and there is more to try out / experiment with.

It's a beautiful device and thinner than expected. Unfortunate that local resellers don't offer the protective cases, though. This is a real 'daily driver' type of device in my opinion.

I agree - I did get the bumper case from foundation which protects the back - I am looking to get their folio case as well. for now, I just keep it in the hard case when not using it.

I do not plan to use any of the 3rd party apps my self - I feel that would open it to unnecessary external attack vectors.

Which hard case did you get for it? The bumper case looks nice! But I can really see myself using the Folio case; you don't use this device as much as a phone, but you do want to have it on you for 2FA codes and (smaller?) BTC purchases, so I feel like something that is both slim but also protective from front to back, would hit the sweet spot and should maybe even be included with the purchase.

The curved screen will also make it impossible to get, make or commission a custom screen protector. I'll write more about my opinions in the upcoming review, but it's not the first time I've had this issue with hardware wallets.

That probably depends on your use case of the device and the trustworthiness of the code. I'm personally very interested in coding something up for it myself, so if you have any ideas, let me know!

I like that they are working on what seems like a 'hardened' mode of operation for the Prime, maybe that's something you're interested in - I expect this to also omit 3rd party app functionality, but I'm not sure:

Despite my initial skepticism, I can honestly see a use for an 'in-between' device; something which you're not storing my retirement funds on, but is more secure than a software wallet for day-to-day Bitcoin usage.
In such a use-case, I'd feel comfortable keeping a similar balance on it (or a little higher) than I would on a software wallet, while also using the device for other purposes.

oh I have no issue with putting funds in the addresses it provides and holds the keys for. I simply do not want any altcoin apps or really any other apps than what it already provides.

New Envoy v2.3.0 has been released with 70+ bug fixes and improvements, focusing primarily on UX polish and on a better workflow relevant to Passport Prime. It’s still in beta, so Foundation should make it stable in the next few days, but users who are in hurry may want to test it now rather than waiting.


UPD. How would you react to Foundation’s acknowledgment that they accept coding with AI by "non technical team members writing production code and applying fixes"?

Since it's open source, if there are any security breaches in the software and firmware (which I find unlikely, given the commitment to the project so far), it's probably only a matter of time before they're exposed.

In my view, they clearly stated that this applies to both KeyOS and Envoy.

However, the real issue lays in non-technical team members rather than in AI . Ace at coding may achieve outstanding results with the help of AI, but a non-technical member may bitch things up ^{I bet my boots it will go wrong; it’s similar to  giving robotic-assisted  surgery  into the care of intern instead of master- surgeon}.

I strongly believe it’s better to employ one professional than ten newly trained programmers who have just completed a six-month course.

Same as you... Despite these AI tools recently improving a lot in identifying & fixing some of the issues that sometimes even the veteran developers & coders fail to notice, it's still not 100% flawless ^{[sooner or later, it might introduce all sorts of issues, so I'm not sure if this trade-off is worth it]}.

It's not just their problem, it's something that happens everywhere. If an experienced professional costs $5000 per month, and an AI solution is maybe 30% of that price, most will choose the latter because they will save money. I'm always in favor of a human approach, but I understand that there will be less and less of that in the future.
