Even in today's modern world, except for a few people in Europe-America, the general public of the entire world does not have a proper understanding of Bitcoin. Sad Sad Except European-American, anyone who have a little idea about Bitcoin also have misconceptions. Due to this problem, many people are unable to invest in a great platform like Bitcoin even if they want to. This problem may not seem like a big deal to many, but think about third world countries. A sad reality is, in my country 80-90% of the population are not familiar with Bitcoin.
Is there any way to solve this problem?
I think the availability of technology and the internet solves alot of these problems, take for example my country here many people like you said have misconception towards the adoption of bitcoin but everyday the massive spread of the how bitcoin can be beneficial to people is spreading everyday and this awareness is causing massive curiousity in folks willing to find out more to this wonderful innovation and the only way this can be done is through the internet,  although there are slot misinformation in the internet but one can still get a fair share of vital information on the technology through the internet.

Some people infact 80%90% haven't even heard about bitcoin, because we don’t have proper education on cryptocurrency, let the  leaders with their policies, if the leaders adopt bitcoin and also accept bitcoin to be taught in the education system then things will be easy for the people to know and  to understand bitcoin and know the value of bitcoin. Or  to promote and adopt Bitcoin, the more we promote Bitcoin the more people will understand, because curious about it and if we start to adopt Bitcoin a lot of people will be interested in using Bitcoin as well.

But I don't think that is a draw back though, for sure some of us here in the beginning don't have a clue on what Bitcoin is, at least in my case. I've known or cross path about it years ago, but didn't take the full time to learn it until 2017. I'm not sure what misconceptions you are talking about illicit activities, this is just one report from Europol,

Quote
The use of cryptocurrency as part of criminal schemes is increasing and the uptake of this payment medium accelerating. However, the overall number and value of cryptocurrency transactions related to criminal activities still represents only a limited share of the criminal economy when compared to cash and other forms of transactions.

https://www.europol.europa.eu/cms/sites/default/files/documents/Europol%20Spotlight%20-%20Cryptocurrencies%20-%20Tracing%20the%20evolution%20of%20criminal%20finances.pdf

On the contrary, if we are talking about 3rd world countries, I may have to disagree with you, as you can see in another report, The 2022 Global Crypto Adoption Index Top 20, most of them are either developing or underdeveloped countries.

There's no reason for anyone who slightly understands Bitcoin not to invest in it and I don't see the misconception part as the reason behind it because misinformation is in the market right from the beginning due to some incompetent blog article writer, Youtuber, influencers, etc. The major reason why some crypto investors don't invest in Bitcoin is always investors who are after market hype, the high cost of obtaining a whole BTC, and lack of knowledge.

This problem may not seem like a big deal to many, but think about third world countries. A sad reality is, in my country 80-90% of the population are not familiar with Bitcoin.

The way to solve this problem starts with someone like you who's already into Bitcoin. How you share your knowledge with them and your government's stance toward BTC.

Why do you think like that? Do you think people from other region lack of knowledge just because you don't have proper education? Stop thinking like that people nowadays have many resources to gain knowledge for free. This forum is one of the free platforms where you can have enough proper knowledge about cryptocurrency.

I’m not sure what kind of solution you want. All information about bitcoin is public and can be found on the internet for free. There’s no excuse not to have heard of bitcoin in 2023, unless you do not have the internet or a mobile phone, nowadays even in the most rural parts you can find internet connection. I think the challenges facing bitcoin adoption in rural communities are digital illiteracy and poverty; digital illiteracy is a major problem because even though the information is available you have to understand how to access it, and poverty kills the interest in bitcoin because they cannot afford to invest their savings in bitcoin.

Most countries do not openly promote bitcoin and each of us had to learn about bitcoin on our own and that is why we are here, if people were as enthusiastic about learning about it as you make them out to be then what is stopping them from doing a quick internet search and learn more about bitcoin? After all it is not as if the information surrounding bitcoin is a secret or anything, so if there is a high percentage of people on your country which are not familiar with bitcoin, then that is their choice and there is no problem to solve.

You don't need to stress yourself out by looking at that percentage and try to be a hero to reduce that and make everyone know about bitcoin. But if you really want to reduce that number and increase the adoption in your country. You can do some free advocacy like being active on your social media in your local area and then create informational videos that are explaining what's bitcoin and the basics of it. Point out also why people dislike it and that's because they probably haven't heard it yet. As in just feed the necessary and important details as if you're talking to someone that has no idea of what bitcoin is.

You don't need to be discouraged by the fact that there are still many people who don't know Bitcoin in your country OP. I think Bitcoin is still very young and there are still many pros and cons to Bitcoin which causes a lot of doubts.
Actually we don't need to complain, what we have to do is multiply and deepen our knowledge about cryptocurrencies and focus on our activities in Bitcoin to get our own success that we achieve from Bitcoin.
If you are successful with your activities in Bitcoin then naturally the people around you will ask how you did it and finally they start to get interested in getting to know Bitcoin.
I think to solve the problem of people who don't know or don't want to know Bitcoin efficiently is to give them concrete evidence of success in ourselves.
With that, other people will be easily moved and triggered by themselves and will start to be interested in getting to know Bitcoin because they see real evidence of the success we have achieved.

Because Bitcoin is a new product, that definitely requires much time to understand by people even he is smart one, I've experienced argued with my friend which I think is enough genius in lessons but still not understand with Bitcoin system where don't have a physical form. he thinks that bitcoin is just a fantasy by people who don't like the current payment system, so it makes new things which hasn't been tested.

so I think it's reasonable if you feel 80-90% of the population are not familiar with Bitcoin, because it is difficult to change the perspective of others. so there is no way, only time it will change by itself.

I don't think you're wrong but you're not absolutely correct as well because those third world countries you think don't understand bitcoin than the Europeans or Americans might actually do. This people are the ones using Bitcoin for it's purpose which is decentralized transactions.

But the Europeans are so dip into centralization that most of the platform they're using or allowed to use are centralized Example, from the exchanges to the wallets. Educating people about Bitcoin doesn't have to be focused on just one continents because you think they need it more.

We all need Bitcoin and that's why bitcoin is the only voice of the people, it who be used as a means to protect the over centralization of our world. We don't have privacy anymore and that's an issue as the governments can now monitor all our conversation from the apps in our phone.

Is there any way to solve this problem?

An adage says "where there is will, there is a way" If you are wiling, you can start the movement of creating awareness of bitcoin in your locality no matter how small it is, you can be able to start up something. You can do that by educating and enlightening  your people more on bitcoin before thinking of adoption because arousing their interest creates a room for curiosity which eventually leads to adoption of bitcoin but all this would take you time as it is supposed.

Regardless of what you thought that majority doesn't have a proper understanding of bitcoin, it will still continue to grow and flourish. As others posted numbers already, it might take some time for the global adoption, but at least we are slowly getting there.

Many 3rd world countries are into bitcoin or at least crypto, except for authoritarian government.

So you don't have to worry, sooner or later we will be at point that those who are late in the party will regret their decision not to get early in bitcoin or if they know bitcoin and ignore it because they think it's a scam or just for criminals, that's not our fault.

It is correct that Bitcoin is a very complex method of payment which is not easy to understand, if you don't have background of IT technology and Finance, there are many people around the world, in particular in developing countries where people hardly know anything about it and those who have little idea about it, they also have misconception about it. In simple words, it can be seen as marriage of IT technology and finance. It has created new way of approaching financial transactions as well as, it has potential to completely transform the current system of payment.

I think social media is the best platform to create awareness about Bitcoin.

Third world countries are dominated with poor people, low knowledge or not really update with the current technology. With that, you know right why many third world countries doesn't invest in Bitcoin? it's because a poor people can't buy Bitcoin, people with low knowledge will not understand Bitcoin and their old technology still not recognize Bitcoin which is new as a decentralized currency.

If there's no proper education about Bitcoin in your country, why you not become the first person who introduce and teach everyone about Bitcoin?

This is more likely a personal problem rather than a society problem. There are various guides on the internet available and if you think it's not enough, then you aren't supposed to be in this industry. It's like me not searching for how to play guitar and then calling out that it's a difficult intrusment to play without any guidance available worldwide.

I respect your personal opinion however you are challenging a fact in this thread. Even a simple ChatGPT prompt: "Hi, list me 10 best resources for understanding Bitcoin" will be more than enough.

Here you go with 5 of them as of now:

1. Bitcoin.org: The official website of Bitcoin, containing the white paper, documentation, and other resources for understanding Bitcoin.
2. The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous: A popular book that explores the economic principles behind Bitcoin and its potential as a currency.
3. The Internet of Money by Andreas Antonopoulos: A collection of talks by Bitcoin expert Andreas Antonopoulos that explores the potential of Bitcoin and blockchain technology.
4. Bitcoin Wiki: A comprehensive resource for understanding the technical details of Bitcoin and its underlying technology, blockchain.
5. The Bitcoin Podcast: A weekly podcast that covers news, developments, and discussions related to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

Hope it's good enough for you.

Thank you sir for correcting me.
I made a guess from various media coverage And I can understand from your reply that it was wrong.
sorry for my misconception

Due to this problem, many people are unable to invest in a great platform like Bitcoin even if they want to.

It is interesting that you start with the theory that very few people really understand Bitcoin, and then you show that you yourself did not understand Bitcoin very well because you call it an investment platform. or I misinterpreted you, in that case, I apologize.
Sir, you are absolutely right about me.

I didn't have a proper understanding of Bitcoin. But thanks to this post and your support, my misconceptions are gone.
I am very very thankful to you guys.

This is not true, Africa as a big continent has many Bitcoin supporters, take a look on Nigeria, there are now so many youths buying crypto and Bitcoin, compared to four years ago when many are scared that Bitcoin could be a scam, today it's way better, like the stuff of Night and Day.

No one has a proper understanding of anything until they learn about that thing, is there anything you have a proper understanding of without being taught or going on practical lessons? Let's stop making Bitcoin look complicated please, because it's really not.

With your smartphone and the internet, you will easily find answers about Bitcoin, even if this forum doesn't exist.

Is there any way to solve this problem?

you don't solve this problem because this is a world act to make it happen ,  education in bitcoin needs to be spread by whom> then in this  our help will be counted because the more we let people understand bitcoin is the more they can become properly understanding.

don't worry mate , even in my country there might be more who knows about bitcoin but the sad part? is they knew this negatively and not the good side.

Even in today's modern world, except for a few people in Europe-America, the general public of the entire world does not have a proper understanding of Bitcoin. Sad Sad Except European-American, anyone who have a little idea about Bitcoin also have misconceptions.
Bitcoin has spread not only in Europe and America but all over the world. People now know enough about Bitcoin. And you said people in regions other than Europe and America have misconceptions about Bitcoin. This is not the case.

There are many countries where Bitcoin and other digital currencies are completely illegal. And even if people in those countries practice Bitcoin, it is very secretive. Because it is completely illegal in their country, the government can arrest him if he talks too much about illegal currency.

You may have read this news that a few years ago a Bitcoin bank was established in India to deal only in Bitcoins. If people had no idea about Bitcoin except Europe and America then the Indian Government would not have taken such a decision.
And there are many people in Asia who are directly involved in cryptocurrency and have a good understanding of Bitcoin and other digital currencies.
Due to this problem, many people are unable to invest in a great platform like Bitcoin even if they want to. This problem may not seem like a big deal to many, but think about third world countries. A sad reality is, in my country 80-90% of the population are not familiar with Bitcoin.
Investing requires not only an understanding of Bitcoin but also a risk appetite and invested money. There are many people who have enough knowledge about investment but they are not able to hire investment due to lack of money so you assume they have no idea about Bitcoin?

If digital currency is illegal in your country and if your country has relatively high population then 10% of people know about Bitcoin is enough. And 10% seems like you, but if all those who are directly involved with Bitcoin come forward, I think the number of people in your country who know about Bitcoin will increase.
Is there any way to solve this problem?
People's interest in knowing about Bitcoin has increased a lot. People are now trying to know about Bitcoin and day by day the number of people who know about crypto currency is increasing. If the governments of other continents like Europe and America accept Bitcoin and make positive comments about Bitcoin, then the popularity of Bitcoin will increase.

OP, what's wrong with your logic? Let's go back to your posts from just a month ago.Grin

can someone who is not well educated (secondary school graduate) understand the statistics of bitcoin investment or Bitcoin trading?
Anyone with a good brain will understand Bitcoin trading and Bitcoin investment. No special educational qualification is necessary to understand it. But yes if you want to do something good from here then its information should be understood specially by your conscience.

Based on this, can I assume that people who have a "bad brain" are those who cannot understand Bitcoin?

It is here on the forum that I see so many people from the Third World, as you put it, who are very good, and some are studying diligently and already know about Bitcoin. Therefore, it is difficult to talk about countries. The Internet is available everywhere; among us, there are people who came to the forum with only mobile phones, without computers or laptops. Information about Bitcoin is available to everyone and everywhere, but the interests of people cannot converge on only one, hence the differences in opinion.
Start with yourself; if you know something, and if there is a desire to inform others, act!

PS:
By the way, you can spread information about Bitcoin from all your accounts, do not be shy. Grin
