I don't know, call the police and see if they will return them to you out of respect for your privacy.  

If the police have done it right, they will have transferred the funds to addresses where only they have the private keys. The only thing I think you can do is try to use yours to see if the bitcoins are there and move them to another address of yours that you manage with other keys.

This would be better placed on a technical board btw.

No, there is not. Although your session might have been too close to the date of seizure for your private keys to have been wiped, there's a chance he never actually deleted any private keys, at all.

It is 7TB. If backups were done that include the private keys, that was a big mistake. I can guarantee you that these 7TB include private keys, since I have seen funds withdrawn from ChipMixer (imported private keys)) disappear on the day of the ChipMixer takedown.

Although OP didn't provide hard evidence that supports his allegations, I don't see a reason why ChipMixer shouldn't be tagged & flagged at this point. Especially to prevent others from falling victim to phishing scams (not everybody knows CM is no longer operational).

There's nothing you can do other than contact the police about it but I'm guessing you won't want to do that either. I'm sure there will be lots of legitimate funds caught up in the confiscation but they probably don't care. Either way they only thing you will be able to do is lodge a complaint with the feds and if that's something you can't do then you're probably SOL.

Only the security agency that confiscated Chipmixer funds can answer this question, you have to report to them if you really want to recover your funds, but i am sure you will then be exposing yourself to investigations and losing your privacy that you once used ChipMixer for, maybe you should forget about it if you can.

Actually this is my first time seeing someone said he lost coins due to the seizure of ChipMixer. I was really telling my friend days ago the advantage of mixers over exchanges even if they don't serve the same purpose.
I was telling him assuming it was an exchange that was siezed, people by now would have been crying of fund lost.
Just few hours after the discussion and praises, I have seen one case of coin confiscation.

Those guys don't care if you just did it for privacy. They are feeling bad that you didn't want them to snoop onto your transactions. Consider the BTC gone. There's nothing much you can do at this moment to try to recover the coins

I'm sorry for your loss but I think you should move on, the Bitcoin was seized on CM might be possible that it may be subject to forfeiture proceedings, which would make it difficult to recover.  Even though you weren't obtained through illegal means but in the eyes of those who seized ChipMixer was illegal or include criminal activities and the reason they shut down the service.

How big it is that you still wanted to recover?  If that is so, it's better to consult a qualified lawyer for this.

An obvious question with obvious answer, there's no way people can do about it, unless you ask the police for them to recover.

The big question for you and for the other users who keep their coins on CM private keys without transferring their coins in safe place, is why you held those coins on such manner when you yourself didnt generate that keys. Anyways, lets move on for that, you should serve this as a lesson. Keep your money on your own safety, the one you generate, the one you made by yourself.

What's the reason they will send the coins back to @OP if the @OP live in a country which accepting Bitcoin as a legal tender? any countries will have regulation about money laundering and they view Bitcoin mixer is a part of money laundering.

I believe the @OP will need a lawyer and have a strong proof if he is not a criminal, but he need to accept if the process will not be smooth and the government might be watching him after that.

I looked into it pretty thoroughly and there's no laws (at least in the US or EU) I could find that expressly forbid the use of mixers for non-money laundering purposes (not exactly sure what is required to prove intentions one way or the other). There are laws in the US that require mixers to be licensed as a money transmitter business if they plan on servicing US-based customers. Don't know if there are similar laws for other countries.

Its incredibly murky territory. If the government has logs of all customer deposits then it would be possible to prove ownership of BTC by signing a message from the sending address. Even so - assuming logs were kept and the feds open actually do up some sort of "refund" process - it could still take years to finally get one's confiscated BTC back.

That's a good reason. But even if they speak up and law enforcement agent arrest them, is there a means to prove that they are the real owners of the fund. I mean from the chipmixer data base.
Meanwhile, I don't think that anyone is in active use of the chipmixer site because the backend is still with chipmixer, what was seized was just the front end.

It is the police that seized the chipmixer so do not expect them to return your money. By the way you are not alone here as Chipmixer Shuttered and $46.5 Million Seized

No one is going to take this as an excuse and return your money. The authorities don't like privacy and they want everything to be transparent. They may go to any level to get it implemented.

Do you think that it's worth of your time to come to them and contest that your funds has been taken by them during the seizure of CM? After that, you'll have to say that you're a good person. We all know that anyone who uses a mixer only wants to increase their privacy and you'll prove it to them that you've just used them for that purpose and not with anything related to illegal activities. If the amount is tolerable to be forgotten, much better to keep it like that as you'll be battling against the actual government who have come to arrest and seize CM.

You are not the only one who had this happen to him, as I heard there are a lot of wallets that bitcoin disappeared from after the ChipMixer was taken over by the police, I don't know the exact number but it might be more than 100 wallets (as I heard from my friend).

This completely proves that ChipMixer  was keeping the private keys and that leaves a big question mark, but that doesn't matter anymore because ChipMixer is no longer around.

Better forget your bitcoins or you will get yourself into legal trouble with the police.

If you can provide all the documents and very good reasons why you need to use Mixer then go proceed to present your case, but you will be investigated and worse they will charge you if they see something illegal in your transactions, this will be too much work and too much time spent and you will have to spend money to get a good lawyer, not just an ordinary lawyer, but a lawyer that knows how Cryptocurrency works and this is quite costly.

You kept the Bitcoin in the address they gave you because of their reputation but this is another lesson for you no matter how reputed the platform is, we should not trust then completely the moment you received the coins it should be moved to a new address so you can ensure that funds are secure no matter what happens.

As everyone said you can do anything other than reporting it to the authorities who confiscated the funds and maybe after the investigation ends they might return the funds to users who didn't do any violation using the mixing service.

Unless they have a ruling that they are going to do that, once a platform is marked part of money laundering and the people behind it are marked criminals they can treat all the funds confiscated as part of criminal activity you need a lawyer to act on your behalf that you've used mixing for good purposes, now this is another investigation if it's a huge amount of Bitcoin then go for it, you don't want to go on your life thinking you wasted a big amount of Bitcoin because you did not fight for it in the court.

I'd discourage OP if he wants to do this, regardless of how much BTC he lost. The time and money spent to get his money back is probably not worth the hassle. Just move on OP, and learn from this to never share your private key with others, even if they are famous/reputable in the community. Some services even straight-up exit scammed you when they believe they are being threatened or they no longer make profits. It takes a single take-down notice or insolvency notice to lose all of your money, better store all of your crypto in a secure wallet next time. At the end of the day, this is one of those risks that you need to accept if you used a service that works like Chipmixer.
