All those who are associated with business want to earn profit in business. But many people adopt wrong approach in business due to which they are deprived of earning profit. 
Business should adopt some ways to increase profit such as,

business should have good understanding of product service and customer needs. What kind of product the customer wants or what kind of product is more in demand in the market, that kind of product should be given more demand. 

Another thing is to avoid trying to make a certain amount of profit. not selling the product in the hope of making more profit.  And always try to buy good quality product at relatively low price which will have little chance of profit. 

Always try to retain old customers and do what will increase the demand of new customers. In that case, different offers can be given because people will be curious to accept the offer when they see the offer and this will increase your business. 

One of the most important factors in growing a business is treating customers well. Always try to make the customer satisfied with you.
If you can manage your business in this way then I think it is possible to earn more profit in business.

If you are in customer service industry, customers should always be considered, also with other fields of business. Problem with some businesses is that they tend to lessen their quality of service as they are being more known which is something a business owner should avoid. Costing is a factor which causes these changes but atleast, there are other ways to cope such as adjusting the price but maintaining the product. In such way, your customers would still be patronizing what you are offering to them. It would always be the kind of service you are providing. IMO - there are still many important tips to apply when we build a business, even though customers are number one but good management is also very important.

Manage your income and expenses personally, don't be tempted to build a new business that is not your expertise because all of that is important to maintain your financial stability in business. Increasing profits in business requires hard work, good management and budget. But of course this really depends on who is running the business and how you compete with others.

However, the CRM referred to by @Renampun is also a part of business management systems. Fanbase management is crucial nowadays, even if you have an honest business, if your fanbase is not well managed, the chances of repeat orders will be very small. CRM teaches us how to make customers buy our products or services more than once, but we must also listen to customer feedback in order to provide good service.

Many businesses have survived for a long time due to clever business management in managing customers. Buyer development will continue to increase because the status of "buyer is king" is still felt by consumers.

That is true, even small discounts matter to the masses. Let's say 99cents or more.
But if they do compare it with others, they will surely buy it from your shop.
People want discounted items even if it is not much. That's how consumers are.
Small freebies are good attraction also. It won't hurt your business if you will give it from time to time.
But the impact of such move will be lasting for some, and who knows, such move will give them reason to be loyal at your shop?
Rewards, gift cards, vouchers, discount cards and small freebies are great marketing tools to sustain your business.
It will remind people or customers that you don't forget them. A simple gesture will give you loyal patrons in the long run.

Advertising and brand recognition is one of the best way in boosting your profits. When you invest in advertising your business out there, people become more familiar with your products or services. Even better if you have something unique that you can use to promote your business. Like a slogan, or a product or anything that when people see will immediately recognize which business it is. The more the people recognize your business, the more you will be earning. But don't expect to earn a lot after few days of advertisement. In a long term thing and it will give you some good ROI after few months.
I agree that they could really boost profits from your business. However, I still believe that even if you always do that, if there is no good customer service that is being applied in your business, people will not bite whatever advertising you may do. Marketing and Branding is obviously number one. You want an example? Apple iPhones are marginally worse than Samsung galaxies, and yet they are mostly used, why? Because its a brand, its a brand so much ingrained in the minds of Americans that they prefer it by like %90+ margin, sure its closer in other parts of the world, and I am sure in South Korea Samsung is heavily preferred as well, but that is normal because its technically speaking a better phone. Just put down every technical data on a piece of paper, and you will realize why its better. And yet, iPhone is preferred more. Same with MacBooks, its a horrible laptop that nobody should pay that much for, but they do, why? Because of branding and marketing. Do that very well, and get a good looking and good feeling product (can't be too shitty, it needs to be close enough at least) and you can sell anything to anyone.

One of the major solution to increase profit in a business is to increase sales.  More sales means more profit.  It can be increased through offering discounts, marketing promotions, advertisements and multi level marketing where the business use people to spread the news about the business and offers commission to them.  Making the price competitive also increases the sales which can improve the business' profit.

It is also a great help to reduce the maintenance cost by improving the efficiency of every action made in line with business transaction.  Efficiency also helps a lot if in case for the sake of improving profit we decided to open new branches in other places with possible diversified products.

Look for the demand and do things accordingly. Always use the advancement available with us to create new business opportunities. Never stay down at any moment. Most of the time business failure happens when the funds were utilised in the wrong way and there is no proper audit.

Whether the business is small scale or large scale, there needs to be perfect data and the plan of execution. With business we should always have multiple plans, only then it is possible to improve business. This means we can't be sure of the result, so we can try with the alternate plan to improve business.

With business it takes lot time to book good profit, because these days business along with innovation is a must. With pure business means we should have big capital, as the profitability depends on the investment and so is the risk associated.

Your solution is like everything everyone is saying here, it's very generic, and every business knows this. I once opened a business and failed. I know all the suggestions people are talking about, but the problem is that doing all of it costs a lot of money, and I don't think many businesses will do that. 

We must depend on the circumstances of the business and the amount of capital that the business has... from there, we can develop a specific strategy to help our business survive and grow. There is no single formula to increase profits for all businesses. It is necessary to rely on many factors to evaluate and have a separate solution for each business.

Customer relation, a business person must understand that customer is king and should be treated like a royalty.
I beg to differ on the part I bolded as it doesn't apply to every customer. There are some customers you wish you didn't have because of their irritant behaviour. No matter how hard you try to please these ones, they won't be appeased. Perhaps, OP hasn't met such unpleasant humans. I think that expression is a cliché that rests on idealism rather than reality.

Too many customers obviously won't increase your profit, and if you're selling things at a loss to them, I don't think that's a good way to attract more customers.
Why would anyone sell below their goods at a loss and still call themselves a business person. OP didn't say sell at a loss but sell at a discount. Selling at a discount doesn't mean selling at a loss. What it simply means is that the business owner decides to lower their profit on the product.
