Yes, as a newbie, you can't post or reply on the archive board, Ivory Tower (full member rank at least), or serious discussion (junior member rank). Those places are not that important right now, and any place where you are not allowed to post, your post will not even go through in the first place. If you have contributions to share and ideas that you think will be helpful to others and those threads are still open, feel free to drop your comments under those posts. There is no harm or crime in doing so as a newbie. Your ideas and things you have upstairs matter a lot; those are not being rated by rank.

I don't know how the newbie posting ban works, but OP, can't you check it yourself?
I guess that if you're not allowed to post somewhere, you won't be able to do so, no matter how much you want to. Isn't that how it works?
Logically, how do beginners learn what is possible and what is not? The function of not allowing writing in certain places should work.
How it works with avatars, for example.

as Nwada001 has said newbies cannot post on archives, serious discussions and Ivory Tower. if you think you have useful knowledge that is worth sharing with everyone, try reading this part of Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ(Guidelines for threads) to know where to post your thread while you are still not allowed to post on the boards where newbies are prohibited.

One simple rule is that if you're logged into your account and see the "reply" button in any board, it means you can post there, but if the "reply" button is missing, it means you can't. Serious Discussion, Ivory Tower (child board of Serious Discussion), and Archival are examples of such boards (I asked a question about being unable to post in Archival when I was a newbie).

It would be good if the OP clarified whether he is talking about threads (sections) where newbies can't write or places where newbies are not supposed to talk because it is understood that it is a conversation "for adults only". I think that what he is asking is the second question, but most of you are answering to the first one.

IMO, if you really have something to say, don't restrict yourself: many good ideas come from unbiased outsiders and virgin minds that, although don't know many details we do know, don't have yet adopted general beliefs that may not be entirely correct but, for having repeated over and over again, we no longer question them.

Well, maybe it is not decent to write in the most technical sections of the forum if you don't know about the matters they are talking about there, but this is not only a range issue.

Another good place to post apart from the ones mentioned by my colleagues are Local boards if you are a native of a foreign language like me: in my experience, newbies are usually very welcome in these little tribes and veteran members are much more permissive there than in the "north" (international boards).

Archival, I don't really know the reason.

Serious discussion and Ivory Tower, it's supposed to be for high quality posts only and it's not only for spammer because signature isn't visible in that place. But it seems those two sections aren't working like was been expected since it make people not interested to post on there.

Moreover it's unclear which post should be posted there, let's say someone want to discuss about technical Bitcoin, a newbie can post in Development & Technical Discussion section. If the thread discuss about serious topic and no have relation with Bitcoin, it can be posted in off topic section.

Ivory tower,Archivers board and Serious discussion boards are highly restricted for newbies because there is nothing your rank hasn't qualify you to post there, maybe your contributions there might be invalid since you are not yet grounded on such topics.

As a newbie, you should be OK with the B&H board,Bitcoin discussion boards, Economy board and Meta board for easy learning and contributions on topic discussed on these boards that o mentioned. You should feel free an Navigate around the forum and learn about the forum on your own.

Infact the beginner and help board covers almost everything for newbie, so you can post all your contributions there
In addition to those boards that you mentioned, this board[1] Investigations ----> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=227.0 is restricted as it cannot be viewed by guests. You need to log in to be able to see the content, and the information contained in it is very restricted.

Also the Lending Board, newbies cannot ask for a loan without collateral.
@OP you do not need to worry much about these restrictions, you should focus on increasing the good content and sharing your information.

It was suggested though by @DireWolfM14 that Restrict newbies from posting in the lending board?.

So for now the following boards are restricted: Archival, Serious Discussion, and Ivory Tower.

It's good you have seen a handful of boards where you can share your knowledge, as you said, but the boards where newbies cannot comment have been mentioned to you already, and if you go on various boards, you should look out for pin posts. Always try to read through some of the rules or content of those pin messages; it helps you to know more and can also limit your ability to perform poorly in the forum. As a newbie, I think you may still be doing a lot of research yourself about the forum within different threads on the forum. Before you even had the need to post in a thread where newbies are restricted, you might have ranked up.

Back in my newbie days, I was also curious and careful not to post where I was not supposed to, so I asked the same question and got different replies. You can read them @ Section to avoid and section to postl.

So for now the following boards are restricted: Archival, Serious Discussion, and Ivory Tower.
Serious discussion; Ivory Tower boards have restrictions years ago, not recently.
Honestly, I don't know when the restriction on Archival was applied but my guess is since 2018 with Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements.

But it does affect:
 - Board restrictions
With a Copper membership, newbies can make threads in Archival.

From your words ( you don't want to make unnecessary mistakes) then you must stick to the Beginners and Help section and in meta read the pinned post above that thread then you understand the rules and regulations here in the forum because the most important thing to do and to avoid mistakes is you must aware the rules and regulations. And then you can contribute to this forum by sharing you ideas and knowledge about bitcoins Etc.

"Are there boards and threads I'm not supposed to post in as a newbie"?

Archives and the Ivory Tower that I know so far, maybe there are others but I don't think I know. In general maybe you can implement it yourself if you want to see more, more details maybe where is the "reply" button on any board I think this is you can make a post or contribute.

For a newbie it's more advantageous to you to stick to the beginners and help board as it is the most convenient place newbies can learn so much about the forum as it almost generally talk about so much of things you can find in other boards. Like it's all encompassing.

I don't know of the Meta board is restricted for newbies but I'll say you don't bother using there for now as it's discussion concerns every issues about the bitcoin forum. And as a newbie you have got no need there, others include the Ivory Tower,  Archives and currently and others

"Are there boards and threads I'm not supposed to post in as a newbie"?
Technically, there are no boards that are out of bounds to Newbies. I'd say that however, there are boards that a newbies shouldn't post in if they have no knowledge about what is discussed there. Meaning that they can not contribute meaningfully to any conversation that goes no on there. You cannot be a German and post on the Russian board, unless of course you understand Russian. Archival is also another board where it is just like the waste bin of the forum.

Hello everyone.... I've seen handful of boards and threads that I can make reasonable contributions to by sharing my knowledge about some of the topics that are being discussed in these boards and threads but as a newbie, I don't wanna make unnecessary mistakes and that brings me to the question of "Are there boards and threads I'm not supposed to post in as a newbie"?
It looks like you are still not free and still afraid to express yourself, I understand why you can feel this way because the many number of topics that are been discussed and how overwhelming it can be. But as you will soon know, this is a nice place to learn and be free to express yourself. As a newbie, do not try to impress anybody by trying to make comment in a topic that you do not understand or have an idea about. Post where you are comfortable.

Thank you everyone for your candid opinions I sincerely appreciate. As a newbie, I've decided to follow laid down principles of this forum so that is why I tend to ask questions and seek clarifications wherever I'm somehow confused in the forum.
The sincere opinions of everyone here will surely help me in shaping me to become a responsible and good member of the forum

There are two boards I know of which is the Archival and the serious discussion board that newbies are restricted from posting on. Regardless, I don’t see any contribution that a newbie can offer that is beyond the remaining boards. Infact the beginner and help board covers almost everything for newbie, so you can post all your contributions there

Among the two (2) boards that you have mentioned, newbies are freely to comment on whatever thread they find interesting at. Just make sure that before you comment, you at least provide some insight and contribute a meaningful discussion which is relevant to the topic of the board.

Most of the newbies that I observed comment on whatever board they desire without even understanding the main topic at all. While this is not prohibited perse, but this contributes to the overall spam that degrades the quality of the threads.

My greatest advice would be that if you were to comment on a certain thread, research about the topic to avoid any potential conflicts in the future.
