When you go to report an old post (I don't know the criteria to be an old post, maybe 1 or more years but I don't know exactly), you will find the below-quoted warning-
Quote
Old post: We generally do not moderate posts this old for on-topicness, substantiveness, multi-posting, and other "cleanliness" issues.
Why old posts aren't moderated? There are a lot of replies in the early days of the Bengali local thread creation which is full of spam and I always find them disgusting. I wanted to report them so mods can clear the posts but after watching the warning, I didn't anymore. Today, when I was browsing the altcoin section, found a thread from 2018 (necro bumped by someone). I wanted to report a few replies from the first page but stepped down because of the above warning.

I don't think it's good. Maybe theymos can exclude the posts from the very early stage of the forum. But he should allow to report the posts from the last few years because there is a lot of spam and they pop up a lot of times. Would love to hear the community say on this.

I've asked about that before - but I think I've found one reason why I might report old posts, especially if:

The warning above is very clear that moderators do not moderate old posts for any reason.

No, that's not exactly what it is written. If there is a very good reason to report an old message (malware, doxing, etc...), report it and a mod will handle it (normally).

Spam posting in old threads that are several years old that may have been buried deep and doesn't seem to bother forum and readers anymore. So that might be the reason why mods don't moderate old posts.

I think that this message is given mainly because that priority is given to new posts. When there is lot of spam reported it's normal thing that mods are dealing with newest posts first. But if you will report old post, mods will handle report too and they will delete it if it will be needed.

Yeah, I ran up against this big red stop sign a couple of weeks ago when I was looking through the ANN pages of a few shitcoins I had a passing interest in.  I always knew ICO teams employed alt accounts or paid shills or whatever to keep bumping their threads, but I wasn't aware that it was happening in the altcoin ANN section (yep, still naive after all these years).  I saw some new coins being announced in threads that were then nearly filled with brand new accounts making posts like "great coin, hope for best" and the like.

So anyway, after seeing so much of this garbage I wanted to report it just so the signal:noise would be higher.  Not to be, I guess.

I understand why though; can you imagine how much work the mods would have if they had to handle posts from months to years ago, when in reality it probably makes little difference if anything gets deleted?  Maybe Theymos should round up a squad of volunteer "old post" mods to whom reports could be routed to for handling.  I don't know how many really old posts get reported, but I'm thinking it's probably not an outrageous number.  Just a thought which will probably be lost forever once this thread runs out of steam.

Why old posts aren't moderated?
It doesn't say the posts are not moderated at all, you listed out the conditions where such old posts are not usually moderated;
on-topicness, substantiveness, multi-posting, and other "cleanliness" issues.
They would be moderated for other cases, but there is little reason to try to clean up spam from 2019 which no one reads anymore when there are spam posts now which needs cleaning up.

Today, when I was browsing the altcoin section, found a thread from 2018 (necro bumped by someone). I wanted to report a few replies from the first page but stepped down because of the above warning.
If you report the Necro post the thread disappears under the rubble of posts.

When you want to post in a thread that is more than 120days old, you will have a warning telling you not to bump the post unless you have something absolutely important to say, otherwise consider creating a new thread.
This simply implies that older spams are hidden  than the recent ones.

I believe before this recent development, in the backend, reports appear to the moderators according to the time of report. Which means a 1 year old post reported last week would be treated before today's post reported today. There is an obvious deficiency in the model.

With the recent development, it means newer posts take precedence when reported even if they were reported later than the older posts.

If we are to consider the spamming aspect of it, we could see no reason for reporting provided if it will surely bumped the thread and people may be posting on them again, but as some have suggested that any post found to have any form of suspicious content could be reported so they can be deleted and not for the reporter to bump the thread before reporting such, we could also see that most old threads are hardly bumped except for specific reasons being important for doing such.

I've reported some amount of old posts that I'd consider spam in the past - but as it happens, mods have tag it as a bad report because they don't moderate it anymore [unless it's something dangerous]. Since then I haven't reported any old posts although I was really want to report it after reviewing a few user profiles - but I no longer do.

The effect is - my report count tends to go down although I've still had some good reports so far. So now is not the time to dwell on old spam that has been buried by tens and thousands of spam, but recent spam posts are makes sense focus.

See what I think?!! Uhhhhh... I think since any post or thread had survived a particular number of years or months - according to Thier specified annual statistics - then, they don't seem to worry much about it because they feel it's been a good one to have survived that long innit...
Secondly, they all know just like anyone would that old posts can't be made by rookies....and any old, prominent member wouldn't dare to make threads that'll need to get reported afterall...so all they would rather go for are the new posts - whether it comes from an old member or not - since we've still got alot of old-time dummy's in here too... That alone has practically made Thier jobs easier for them cus, C'monnnn... Imagine being a MODERATOR?? y'all be facing HELL!!! Shesss!!!

Old posts are generally not going to bother anyone if they remain up. If an old post was causing a big enough problem, it would have been reported and handled around the time of the post.

When you go to report an old post ...

This topic has been raised several times already. For the first time, changes about sending old posts appeared on April 11th. I'm surprised the OP doesn't know. It has been discussed many times that no one in their right mind would read old posts, much less pay attention to useless posts. As someone recently said, reporting old posts is interesting to someone who is looking to improve their reporter stats, nothing more. But you need to think about what kind of burden you add to the moderators by parsing old posts.
At the moment, the topics are just as full of garbage, especially from those who use the toy of the AI tool. It would be more useful to clean the forum from such rubbish, as it has been proven that very often information from AI is incorrect.

It's not on Bengali local thread, many early days posts in every sections are disgusting, but it's not worth to delete because most of people don't bother it anymore and only focus with the newest discussions.

If someone bump an old thread, you should report the newest replies, not the old replies.

Maybe if you really get annoyed with an old user posts who's not active anymore, you can click ignore on his profile, so you wouldn't read his post anymore.

Maybe it should be clearly stated from this context that old post can be bumped as long as it content has no any form of attack by any means and also have the reason why such could be revived, if not there's no necessity for rising up old threads if there's no need arising for doing so, we can also how new threads were coming in everyday with current informations on what's going on in cryptocurrency, yet there's more need to see members actively engaged in their discussion than old bumped threads that are not invoked on current happenings.
